This game will be coming up and i want a real place for me and @30+GameOvers to talk about this game franchise. Here's the trailer for this piece of shit

Another thing i want to point out is that the game now has that unarmed button like you see in COD and other FPS, As well as the characters not looking as ugly as the first one. Beyond those two things you can tell this takes place in the future of the series because companies from the first game has merged together.

I know it will be better than the first game but might not be a "good" game, because of the setting i doubt it can get more woke than the original which did have fags and colored. Ironically enough the religion stuff is very well made, mostly being a joke about the nature of NPC and PC, and apparently the companion quest about finding enlightenment is one of the highlights of the game to its fanbase, the in-game "drug trip" probably is responsible for that. In conjunction with that the setting is pretty inspired, apparently being from an alternate universe where the progressive era never happens and its like the 1890s but .....in Space!

The Studio promoted the girl that made the first TOW DLC to do Avvowed meaning they must really be supportive of the franchise, they specifically mention how doing "open zones" instead of "open worlds" meant being able to make each area uniquely designed.

Overall with how fucking awful gaming has been the last decade i can see it be good, the RPG elements were so few and far fucking between i wouldn't be surprised if they did away with them altogether and turned the entire game into the equivalent of a modern Call of Duty Campaign

Should've just made this a post on the Outer Worlds thread, if you didn't want to post it there for some retarded reason you can just DM @30+GameOvers.

Don't we have an existing Outer Worlds thread?
you can count the amount of people that care about this game on one hand and i didn't bother looking for the original thread because its been years and don't want to annoy any of the people with a watch on that thread.

Considering how Avowed is going and the performance of Outer Worlds proper I'm curious to see what the reception to this will be.

OW2 is already more feature complete since I doubt they will strip any features that were in the first game. Expect a solid 6/10.
I ain't even mad bro, 6/10 slop is exactly what Gamepass is made for.

These like kind of pseudo hyper woke Bethesda ripoff games just personally aren't my thing.

Anyone who seriously thinks this is going to be good and not shit needs to get dunked headfirst into a gas station toilet. You will never get Fallout: New Vegas 2. You will continually pay money to play knockoff slop from talentless hacks instead. Rinse and repeat for all other "spiritual sucksessors"

I fell for the New Vegas 2 meme for the first game and I was swiftly disillusioned after I played it. I'm looking at this as a sequel to The Outer Worlds instead, and while I'm not holding my breath I think it will at least be better than the first.
I'll reserve judgement until the game actually hits the shelves. TCD. TOTAL CYNIC DEATH.

Chat, did anyone feel like they wanted to replay the outer worlds, if you did play it? I have felt zero desire to replay it. I feel like that is very very bad for an RPG.
I saw around an hour or so of gameplay. Felt that everything about the game was incredibly stilted when I saw that guy who was stranded in the cave. Got it for free because why in the fuck not?

Now it's just gathering dust in my digital library.

Longtime Obsidian Entertainment fan, here: The overt cynicism with which they front-loaded the story content of the first game, for the sake of generating positive initial impressions and word-of-mouth to ballast what they knew to be an underwhelming product which falls apart after the first few hours of gameplay, was something I had previously only witnessed a "reputable" developer resort to with Sonic Adventure.

I don't even know how bad Avowed is; because the previous game fostered the sentiment that, if Obsidian's name is on the product, the product will be bad; and bad people will be the only ones to try to convince me otherwise. The "New Vegas 2" bait-and-switch was so flagrant that I skipped right past the disappointment or resentment stages, and just went, "You got me; and your reputation's in the toilet."

That said, I took the time to complete The Outer Worlds in its original release state, and will wait for the sequel to receive positive reviews from people I trust before I ever bother checking out the first game's DLCs. There are some cool ideas in that first game which simply never pay off; and I've experienced no temptation to revisit them since experiencing the setup and absence of payoff in the first go-around. I simultaneously hold the positions expressed above by LifeAlert and Tablet County; in that I expect shit, but will withhold judgement until after someone else has taken Obsidian's latest dick in their ass and told me how they liked it and how they can still taste it.

I bought the first game on Steam for $25 during sale a few years after its release. I had it installed and always meant to try it but after all the stuff I heard about how woke it is and cringey as well I uninstalled, and it just made room for other games. I might install it and see how bad it actually is.

I can see Obsidian is still relying on nostalgia for their older better games. All the people who worked on those games are gone. They have been gone for like a decade or more. I doubt any of the people that worked on Kotor II worked on New Vegas. I doubt anyone who worked on New Vegas worked on Outer Worlds. The people that made good games at Obsidian are all gone.

I don't really give a shit about this game and if it isn't total trash all I would be willing to do is a purchase during a steep sale like I did with the first game. I am not buying the $70 version or the ultra special deluxe version for $100.

Outer Wilds is New Vegas 2 as designed by people who never actually played new vegas and got all their information on it from memes and reddit comments.

When I first played outer wilds it was hard for me to quantify why I didn't like, even excluding all the incredibly stripped down rpg elements and mechanics.

At the end of the day I think its grit. New Vegas was an INCREDIBLY gritty dark story about survival, war and progress. The reason the more comedic elements on it like the street gang composed solely of elvis impersonators works is because everything else was grounded in a level of sometimes optimistic, sometimes pessimistic realism about which way western man humanity should move forward, old vs new, progress vs tradition, etc. You had a solid core plot with some lighthearted elements thrown in to give the world spice.

Outer wilds by contrast is wacky wacky fun fun goo goo ga ga baby redditor playpen theme park time. The world feels like a theme park and the tiny maps feel like you're in a playpen.

Its hard to take anything in it seriously because it doesn't take itself seriously. There's no philosophies clashing, there's no ideological backing behind any of the factions, its just a redditors idea of corporate dystopia, all the characters are caricatures, all the factions are retarded all the moral dilemas are barely trolley tier and as a result there's nothing to get invested in.

Boone and Joshua have more character in their little toe than the entire cast of outer wilds does put toogether.

Hard disagree, if only because Outer Worlds isn't New Vegas at all and to even consider New Vegas as part of the equation is to fall for a marketing tactic.
What OW really feels like is a Bioware game (circa Dragon Age 2) that was made in the span of a week with the game dev equivalent of a shoestring budget. Or like Arcanum but aggressively mediocre. The issue as I see it isn't the whacky tone or even the over-the-top, unsubtle parody of corporate domination, but the fact that the game felt incomplete in a way that was even worse than Cyberpunk. And while I hear decent things about Murder on Eridanos, I think I can safely say it isn't quite Phantom Liberty.
The reason I'm cautiously optimistic for Outer Worlds 2 is that they've had time to iterate on a game that felt like it was left half-done. The reason I'm cautious intead of fully optimistic is because Avowed looks like salty garbage. I'm not holding out hope or anything, but I'm not gonna smear shit all over the walls until I'm certain it's worthy of my wasting fecal matter on it.

I didn't. I never finished my first playthrough.

People liked my New Vegas Let's Plays where I played as DSP and Moviebob, and I really wanted to do a second playthrough of OW as Moviebob or Jim Sterling because they'd be a perfect fit for the setting. For Bob, it would be a hard choice between siding with Mr Science(tm) or being a corpo boot licker. And of course Jim Sterling would be all commie all the time. I could even do a pathological lier run. I could revisit this let's play idea if people want.

But my point is my initial playthrough didn't stick. It was just eye roll after eye roll after eye roll I had to force myself through, and that was the game at its best. I'll get to that later this post.

I had previously only witnessed a "reputable" developer resort to with Sonic Adventure.
What did Sonic Adventure do?

Why not both?

I don't get this almost historical revisionism people are doing of the game. The claim it was written by redditors for redditors rings true because even at it's best, the writing is awful. Early game scenes like "closest living relative" and a guy giving corporate slogans even as he dies could have been good if heavy handed scenes in a better game, but that's the peak of the writing. The rest is shit like a woman talking about how she's a-sexual or the space ship giving preferred pronouns. Not to mention all the women having the same politically-correct-unattractive appearance.

Then you add in problems like lacking any sort of depth or impact, and the game being heavily front loaded so game journos get the best impression of the game.

If OW was any other game by any other studio, I don't think people would be nearly as kind to it. It reminds me a lot of Disco Eliseum where 98% of the possitive feedback it gets is simply because the game agrees with them politically, and nothing the game actually does.
