The Outer Worlds 2 (discuss the first one here as well)

  • 🔧 Actively working on site again.
the first game was so fucking bad i could not push my self to play it for more than 4 hours,
i tried twice and could only get a few hours past the first planet

i remember finding a settlement and the first person i talked to flat out told me they were anarchists. like zero nuance or storytelling,
like i feel the political compass has totally destroyed anyone's ability to write anything interesting about political structure
The second I exited character creation Rick Sanchez showed up said "wubba dub dub Mortaaaaaay! And spouted a bunch of quirky bullshit.

It's actually crazy how fast that game becomes gay and obnoxious.

Yea what the fuck is this dude smoking? Literally all of the good shit like the Nomad questline is in Act 2.
Everything past the chip heist is trash. All the set pieces and intresting shit like braindance examinations, trauma team, actual heisting and heist planning, the escape, were intentionally shoved into act 1 to make the rest of the game seem like it would be more of the same interactive action movie instead of a vapid open world fetch quester.

Have to agree even though I enjoyed the game overall. They purposely try to limit your exposure to secondary jobs to cyberpsychos before the heist and even then only the interesting ones.

If you could cut the game into the heist, the mall battle and the final mission and you would have the best parts all in one. Fucking hated when they pulled the " you can't kill this obvious traitorous fuck before he betrays you" multiple times. I fucking can't stand that trope.

Remind me, which mall battle? The one with the haitians?

I dunno. I remember the first game being hyped right up until epic exclusivity was announced, and then the initial release was met with enough negativity people stopped caring.

Though on the topic of OW2, I have a strange question for the thread. The popularity of Buffy and Marvel made Whedon-esc writing define a generation. So much so that people use the short hand "millennial writing". Guardians of the Galaxy and Borderlands have done the same to sci-fi. But is it a formula that can work? I was never a fan of GotG or Borderlands but a lot of people seem to like them.

Pretty much everyone hates the whacky zaney monkey dickcheese writing nowadays.

As you said that kind of humor peaked in the mid 2000s so not only is it annoying but it's also viewed as hopelessly dated at this point.

Plus in additional to that the "millennial writing" style is also strongly associated with woke products which people also hate.

Hard pass, anti-White developer, anti-White publisher, 50% sTRoNg women, niggers and browns. Besides that the, bigger=better attitude, is a cancer that has ruined games since quite a while.

The first game came out 2019 (played the cracked version) when I still had a why too high tolerance for woke stuff. I don't remember characters (wasn't there an older White scientist guy) or story, but the art-style and game play was alright for me.

Buffy was always girls stuff in my eyes, the 90's Twilight, why would you watch this trash as a man when you could watch Bram Stoker's Dracula instead. And adult White men who are still into Marvel/DC, well it's over for you dawg.

this wasnt as much buffy or marvel but dogshit rick and morty monkey cheese im smarter than you retardation. chevy chase was right about that faggot kike harmon

They tried to do a little bit of the same shit with the River and Jefferzon Peralez questlines, but the former was about nonsense and River is a pansy faggot, and the latter just ends abruptly. Now that I've played through all the different Phantom Liberty paths, I can with confidence say that it's so much better than the base game, it actually makes the rest of it even worse somehow.

considering giving the first game a playthrough when im done with my current runs on RDR2 and Skyrim, ive never played a Obsidian title before, ive been going through Game Pass because of the sheer amount of time between single-player releases as of late

If you get the game on Game Pass, you don't get the DLC which is considered essential as it is the best part of the game. I would suggest pirating the game instead so you get everything for free, rather than being forced to pay for DLC with Gamepass. Vanilla game is a solid 6/10 but with DLC it jumps up to a 7/10 in my eyes.
Oh, and play the original version if possible. It has mods on PC and the re-release has technical issues and broken lighting among other things(it doesn't even add anything new that makes it worthwhile).

On there's the obvious dyke hairstyle for the redhead companion
I always thought it would be funny for a character in like a game or TV show to have an obvious dyke coded woman like Ellie but just have her be really into the dude main character. Like she really wants to smash but obviously there's other stuff they have to do.
You can't sequence break and head to one of the high level DLC areas right off the bat like in Fallout games
You sort of can, although you still have to solve the core conflict in the tutorial level, the old bitch will just give you the key to monarch once you pay the 10000 bits which is easy if you go full fallout and grab everything not nailed down. After that the dlc missions give so much XP you can hit Max level by the time you finish.
This is the opposite to everything I heard prior, with the claim that the first area of the game is front loaded with all the best content, and thus the game falls off considerably once you reach groundbreaker.
In terms of amount of missions you're right but in terms of tone he's right. The humor drops off and you get into how awful the world really is.

If I remember correctly, this works for Murder on Eridanos. You hit a brick wall the moment the first combat encounter starts, since the enemies are super high level and will kill you in one-two hits where as you will be doing no damage to them unless you pick up one of the new MK3 weapons(which will make everything in the base game a joke BTW). Peril on Gorgon is a different story however, you need to solve the main quest on Monarch, which puts you in the end game, if you want to start that DLC. Funny thing is that Eridanos has better, higher level loot than Peril on Gorgon, leading to few good loot items if you did Eridanos first.

So yeah, technically speaking you could just go to Eridanos early on and break the game, but that's only if you can defeat some of the toughest enemies in the game first, as the main quest in Eridanos funnels you into unavoidable combat early on. We're talking classic Bethesda Broken Steel Reavers and Overlords tier bullet sponges with deadly one-hit kill attacks to anyone but higher level characters here.

and thats what i did and why i did it? whats the problem. plus i enjoy getting one-two shotted in these games. did you forget the stealth aspect? beyond that because of trying to worm my way past these enemies i figured out they have a max distance they can see even without stealth so its not that hard to run around most of them.

i did a combo of running and stealthing my way past them, also there's a science weapon minigun you can get at the start of Eridanos, its located at the end of the first factory you investigate. Obviously it required a lot of save scumming but its also the only time i had to figure out how to play vs how easy the rest of the game is even on supernova. like i think you're mentioning that weird gorilla thing where the key to get into the lap is locationed, basically like i said i got as close as i could crouching then ran and if you time it right you don't agro it until after you run away.

plus the points you get just from completing even the simple missions and sidequests at the resort all give you at least an extra level if you feel you need to "grind"

It's going to be meh game. The kind of game you pirate, buy on deep sale or get for free that you play for afew hours and then forget about it.

I tried doing just that a few years ago, where I snuck past the Marauders on the way to the zoo. All I am saying is that not every player specializes in stealth and many will think you can win this engagement from a low level(you can because I did that too, but it's like hitting your head against a brick wall). Not the intended experience, at any rate.

Honestly, the Science Hammer and Spectrum Gatling are so OP that they make the game not fun. I only used the hammer for my very first playthru and the gatling for my very first Eridanos playthru and I doubt I will ever use them again. I would have preferred if there was an alternative here, like giving the rarer vodkas special effects to make drinking them attractive, just like the rare brown variant has unique effects.
BTW even if you install this DLC, the rest of the galaxy still has the red variant the base game had, even in Byzantium. Hilarious since the red variant is seen as the flavor only the working class or even unemployed drink, they couldn't even bother to edit the base game vendor tables so that the newer vodka flavors would be introduced into the wider world(even if you have to "unlock" them by completing the DLC first, ala what Honest Hearts did with their weapons and ammo).

they do if they're me and enjoy that playstyle. i use the NV mods that mean everything is a one-shot, especially grenades, it actually makes even goodsprings a difficult fight.

it should be, remember when fucking Wind Waker decided to make a mandatory stealth section in their kids game.

see stuff like that is what i enjoyed. there was a perverse logic to a lot of this stuff. people are only mentioning the way everyone looked or the quips, but beyond that is stuff like colored coded swill or the entire roseway thing all happening because of toothpaste and just the themes of it all. Thats why it sucks it doesn't have a wiki like fallout's where every computer log is taken and reuploaded for people to be able to read how fucked things got in real time. People don't realize how much time NV put into that in the Sierra Madre DLC (my favorite DLC for obvious reasons) in a way when you look at the story its very much like a proto-Outer Worlds. the fall of the casino was inevitable even if the nukes didn't go off because Dean was such an asshole.

another fun fact about Sierra Madre, is that the fallout tv show retcons Dean from a Salieri type spiteful narc a la Iago in Othello to being 100% right about how evil Frederick Sinclair is. Like there's a reason there's a fucking achievement for reading all the lore, its quite interesting. In a way you're basically just helping Dean out of a nightmare of his own creation. /v/ even used to joke that Dean even pissed off the chinese and thats why the nukes start on that date, because the ghosts and holograms and everything else is properly explained as Dean creating a metaphorical bronze bull only to get trapped inside it for over 200 years.

There is several actual African characters in Outer Worlds 1, names and accents and all. This isn't anything new, and frankly I would actually prefer to have native African characters to American dindus if we have to have them at all. Just posting a random black female NPC we know nothing about isn't an argument.
Having shitty characters isn't really an issue here at any rate, it will be a bigger problem if you can't kill them ala Avowed. Remember, OW1 let you kill every NPC you meet except for Pickle Rick who is very conveniently hiding behind a sheet of bulletproof glass every time you see him.
