The Outer Worlds - Obsidian's new game, like Borderlands meets Fallout: New Vegas

Outer Worlds isn't...horrible. It's just incredibly bland and repetitive. I loved it for the first couple hours, but then it just keeps repeating the same joke over and over and it's really clear that the guy who designed the characters had a Pixie Dream Girl fetish since like 95% of the women all look the fucking same. That's not really a knock on the game itself but it annoyed me.

76 has had major updates, which I don't see this game getting. I was hoping for Fallout done properly. This isn't that. Sad.

game is out on steam. doubt i ever buy it though unless its super cheap. they did my boy Avalon dirty, i have second thoughts buying anything obsidian.

yea obsidian sold out i think. they needed to have either hit or miss AA titles and just leave it at that. them being absorbed and thus absorbing the rainbow flag tendencies even more just weakens their flavor. The unique people who made it what it is are now awash in short haired women with padding.
With Bethesda being bought out, that leaves only CDPR the only prominent western dev who makes RPGs.

Microsoft has done jackshit with it's acquisitions, like they've built up none of their franchises. The only things they had left were Halo and Gears but both got fucked up badly. They need like a God of War type revival for the next installments but it doesn't seem likely since they want to weigh the games down with battle passes, seasonal passes, and DLC subscription services.

You aren't wrong, but battle passes, season passes, and DLCs don't really matter if none of the studios are putting out games worth playing.

If Outer Worlds was the game everyone wanted (which would be "Josh Sawyer makes something better than but similar to Fallout : New Vegas") then a season pass would have sold like fucking hotcakes.

Microsoft owns both Bethesda and Obsidian now. Why on earth would they make this instead of Fallout New Vegas 2? Do they hate money?
At this point I’m convinced that all of these companies actively hate their customer base - and they know that no matter what, the fuckwits that make up the majority will come back like a battered dog no matter what.

I genuinely do not understand why this game is getting a sequel. It got very average reviews and was not a smash hit in sales either. They own four dozen other IPs that would sell better.

It did sell extremely (something like 3 million units; it's unknown how many of those were via Game Pass but Microsoft sees it as a win regardless) and was really well received by critics.

Fan enthusiasm quickly tampered off after the first month and it's now widely considered mediocre but when have publishers ever cared what fans think.

Anyway, the trailer was awful. "lol this trailer is nothing but cliches and we're going to explain the cliches! lol xd lmafo"

I quit playing when I met my second female crew mate who just so happens to be an annoying, autistic, quirky, lesbian with a crew cut just like the first female companion you recruit. My friend who finished the game told me roughly 95% of female characters you encounter fit this description almost exactly.

Also the quirky, autistic, amoral scientist character is so blatantly a rip off of Rick Sanchez Adult Swim could have probably successfully sued them for copyright infringement.

I think Microsoft only acquired Obsidian a year ago, the game was probably already in development before New Vegas 2 was a possibility. That said, I liked Outer Worlds well enough. It didn't light my world on fire with amazing new possibilities, but it was competent and plays well.

I got it for half off thanks to one of the PSN sales - yeah yeah, laugh at the console peasant - so for $20 I felt like I got my money’s worth. That said, I managed one playthrough beginning to end, and haven’t been able to convince myself to touch the game since. The entire game feels like its just short of being so much better, and the story was kinda just... there.

Meanwhile, I still go back and play New Vegas start to finish, DLC’s and all. How Obsidian went from New Vegas to TOW I don’t know, but I still feel they had the best unintentional PR of the latest Fallout game being such a dumpster fire that it helped their sales. I can’t see that happening again for the sequel - do I think it’s gonna bomb, no, but I’m calling 1.5-2M copies

My experience was about the same on Xbox; got it cheap, beat it quick, enjoyed it as I did and forgot about it almost immediately after. It generated enough good will from me to check into a sequel, but I really hope they've stepped their game up by a lot.

I have to say, that's the most honest real video game trailer I have ever seen.
So they 'ironically' made a completely boilerplate trailer that explains and shows nothing beyond Obsidian saying they're going to give the Outer Worlds teet another hard squeeze to see if they can coast off of it. Damn shame they've decided to not put in any effort but I can't say I'm shocked after seeing all I did about the first one.
