US Pedo Hunters are bad at this, in part I believe because some US states are very difficult when it comes to private citizens doing their own stings. That and the fact citizens arrest laws in the US are particularly prohibitive. Additionally, these sorts of antics can get this shit thrown out of court.
Contrast to the UK, the nonce catchers just citizens arrest them and phone the police. It creates a situation where the police have to turn up, and as a result the nonce will get arrested.
There have been a few instances where things get thrown out because of the behaviour of the sting team, but actually they make up a significant amount of online grooming convictions in the UK now.

I really hate defending guys like this. But he was on an ADULT dating website for ADULTS only. If he was on some general all ages chat, or some kids game chat, with proof, I would agree that this guy is a nonce. But he wasn't trolling for children. He was perusing for a consenting adult.
He was caught having pizza WITH AN ADULT at a very public pizza place. How many pedophiles do that? Still no release of any chat logs proving that this guy thought she was 15. All we have is this prank bro's claim that he is a pedo.

I might be wrong about this, so if anyone has better info, feel free to correct me. I know it's satisfying watching pedos get the shit kicked out of them, but, from what I've heard, a lot of time these vigilantes do more harm than good. The guys dumb enough to fall for pedo hunter bait also tend to be dumb enough to fall for the cop's bait. Usually, these guys are low level pedos, as in, they consume cheese pizza, but they aren't the delivery boys, or the chefs. So the cops will befriend these low level guys, and allow them to keep consuming, in the hopes that they'll connect them to guys higher up the chain. One article I read about the subject mentioned that there are forums these guys browse, that require multiple members to vouch for new guys to join, so LEOs will try to get in with a lot of these low level guys, get access to their networks, and then compile evidence against the guys running the operation. The issue with the vigilantes though, is that after they've kicked the shit out of a pedo, the pedo runs and hides, deletes his accounts, blocks his associates, etc., and this puts the actual cops back to square one, since they've now lost their in. If these vigilantes really do collect evidence of them being pedos, they should forward it to the cops and let them do their jobs. I know the justice system isn't perfect, mistakes happen, but these guys really aren't helping the situation
