The Problem With Jon Stewart - How painfully, cringingly super-woke must a comedian get to stay relevant?

Did Colbert get a new writer recently? Because since the Ukraine invasion, some of those intro 10 minutes are pure, pure cringe shit. I've watched that shit and can't even believe that it didn't get cut and spliced with literally anything else.

Hasn't Colbert been unwatchable ever since people figured out the thing where he's a gaping asshole wasn't a bit?

It's been bad for years and years, but the past few weeks have been remarkably terrible. It's obviously a younger writer, no way Colbert thinks up anime jokes on his own.

In this excerpt, Jon criticizes the hosts for being partisan hacks and that what they do only helps politicians' goals. In response to this, Tucker Carlson mentions that he believes that his show has value in that whenever politicians come on he tries to get them to answer difficult questions. He then brings up Jon's softball interview with John Kerry. Jon then gives the typical response that all Daily Show alumni and imitators use: he just does a comedy show.
You beat me to it, but I remember watching this when it aired and Jon Jewart was such a smug, disingenuous asshole. The most annoying part is that people like him and Colbert get away with being the worst kind of political hacks by pretending they're just comedians.

I did not come on this show to argue with another white man. That’s one of the reasons we don’t even engage with white men at Race2Dinner, because quite honestly if white men were going to do something about racism, you had 400 years. You could have done it.

>Our business model is white people pay us to call them racist
>We don't allow white men to be our customers

This is just retarded from a business standpoint. You're cutting out 50% of your customer base from the start.

Maybe the real reason black people have less money than white people is because they're just stupid.

This isn't surprising. If anyone had paid attention to this huckster's bullshit, this shouldn't be surprising. I'm also going to let everyone in on a secret: There are actual studies showing that people used him to "stay informed," found that his ratings were comparable to big-time news stations, and how people viewed him as a journalist. There seem to be more studies that show how much of an impact he's had, so I recommend everyone read up on them.

No, the real reason is that White women are far easier to manipulate with accusations of racism.

It’s a pretty good diatribe though. It’s a shame he wasn’t able to better prepare for the debate he didn’t know he’d be in because he clearly knows what he’s talking about, and would have done as well as possible in a forum his opponent had total control over.

Love you but disagree.

What good do these textwalls do? Andrew Sullivan's been writing this kind of stuff for decades, and all it's accomplished is getting him cast to the margins. He's the kind who thought that making a more "inclusive," "tolerant" conservatism would march the GOP into the future, when all it did was make him a useful cudgel for the left to use to beat down resistance to the gay agenda on the right. He's not useful anymore, so they're done with him. Now all he has left is whining to his politically powerless audience that the people he enabled to seize total control of American power systems aren't treating him fairly.

I'd like to take the opportunity of this thread to talk about Jon's infamous appearance on Crossfire. People really love to point to it as an exemplary appearance from Stewart really sticking it to the talking heads on TV. As I rewatched a couple of years back I noticed something.

Later on in the program, an older woman in the audience has a question for Jon, "Why do you think it's hard... for politicians to answer a straight, simple answer?"

Jon's response? No one holds their feet to the fire cause they don't have to and they come on shows that go easy on them. A rather tepid response compared to his smug indignation from earlier on in the program.
He bascally answered his own question. He knew what the answer was the whole time, but because people only pay attention to them when they say something funny or something they like, it goes completely missed.

Has Stewart ever in his life debated a minority conservative?
Maybe the real reason black people have less money than white people is because they're just stupid.

That point in time made me not take Jon seriously and only piqued my interest in Tucker.

Colbert gets his talking points straight from the DNC. I would not be shocked the Biden administration have been telling him to shill Ukraine Good/Russia Bad narrative and shill it super hard, to try and make people forget how hard Colbert has been shilling the COVID crap in recent months. Which means a new writer putting together his shit.

The only valid response to speaking with a modern lateshow host
Technically speaking, Will Smith tried to do this to Chris Rock last week but with a “slap”. Now fast forward to today, we’re looking at entertainers like him and Jon Stewart as people that should be questioned as to how and why they’re still famous.

Didn’t he defend the New York Firefighter’s 9/11 fund basically being uncapped and unmonitored slush fund? That whole thing was something I didn’t pay attention to, but he got pissy that it wasn’t just going to be an infinite well for 9/11 money.

Along with the 9/11 fund, he's recently been demanding the government provide better healthcare for veterans that were in the proximity of burn pits. Maybe he should have been just as hard on Obama as he was on Bush.

One more example of how gutless Andrew Sullivan is:

One more thing: the trope of a malign racial force existing through history across time and space is one Jon Stewart might have once recognized before he joined the woke cult. I wonder what he would have said if someone had come on his old show and said, “I did not come on this show to argue with a Jew,” or “every single Jew upholds these systems,” or it doesn’t matter what a Jew’s politics are, he’s still a Jew, and therefore a racist. What if she had bragged that her organization wouldn’t even engage with Jews because they were so toxic. And what if that person had looked straight at a Jewish guest of Stewart’s when she said it? What would he have said?

It's 2022 and he's still doing the "Imagine if the roles were reversed!" schtick. The roles aren't reversed, you smarmy faggot, because they have power and you don't. It's just galling to see conservatives continue to beg for fair treatment from people that have no need to give to them. In fact, Sullivan knows the answer to the question. If he'd mentioned more than once in his entire article that Stewart is Jewish, he would have been branded a Nazi and lost his Substack keys.
