Nobody has the slightest clue what makes us conscious - souls are as good a theory as any other. If any of the theories were testable, where’s the test results?
We aren’t getting AGI with what we have. The tech mindset is too rigid, and too autistically focused and stupid. It’s all ‘more everything forever and it’ll work’. All hard rules and no chaos.
You get stuff like neuralink, trying to merge hard wires and soft brains. Brain, if you’ve ever touched it, is not if a consistency that works with wires. It’s like mixing a blancmange with a sword.
So we can’t mix metal and flesh (rather biblical..) I’m sure that looks fab if you’re some 40k abomination, but we are going to have to GROW biological interfaces, not staple them in. Biology is the key to AGI, and it amuses me to watch the philosophical and mechanical flailing that keeps failing so badly.

Is it me or Gamergate is part of a total collapse/disaster domino scenario thay directly leads to mass censorship of the modern arts (video games/movies/websites) etc and their sundering to DEI globalism, Digital ID Internet and the inevitable mass collectivization of humanity?

We can't even define what it is, who and what has it. The dot test on animals for instance, we have lower order animals passing it easily and smarter more complicated animals failing it.

We are never getting it within several lifetimes because we don't even have the easy basics down. Voice to text should be a completed scenario, linguistics has narrowed down every possible output and we have millions if not billions of recorded speech in every configuration to filter out noise. Still works like shit.

While true cyber limbs are a distant goal, wired limb control is a workable thing now even if extremely primitive. You don't have to directly map neurons to muscles when you can emulate the output. Its like comparing a 90s video game emulator to a modern one, the 90s one could hack enough code to make it playable even if it wasn't entirely accurate vs. Modern era emulators that can emulate the behavior of electricity through the chips.

Fresh is like a stiffer cream cheese.
If we get AGI in my lifetime I suspect it will come from some surprise sideline nobody really thought about. Simply making dumb things faster is not how we will get there and you’re right - we can’t even define consciousness. I am of course biased being a biologist but I think we will have artificial life and that’s where the agi will come from - the brain cheese, if you will.
