Just thought I'd put this out here and see how many people have heard of it. I've been reading through a few of their pages recently and found them pretty interesting. If you're into creepypasta there's a few in there that you'd probably like.

Oh, I love the SCP Foundation.

I first stumbled across it a few years ago, and I've been reading it on and off ever since. I wanted to write for it for a while, but unfortunately I'm no good at that kind of stuff. Also, the community is intimidating as shit.

I kind of hate how mainstream it's gotten though, what with the SCP Containment Breach release and shit.

That was my first exposure to the concept of SCP. Another one was that one "game" where you're constantly walking down a long flight of stairs before you encounter something that's supposed to scare you.

How do you write for them?

How do you write for them?

As in, how to start writing articles? Just sign up and they'll let you do whatever.

What's intimidating is that a lot of the members, especially the mods and admins, have really serious backgrounds in physics, chemistry, biology, military procedure, etc. If you make any kind of scientific error, they'll rip you to shreds for it.

I know about SCP Foundation. After pursuing through creepypasta posts via FB and other forums along with a top 20 non gaming creepypastas, it seems that there are some thing kept secret that the public shouldn't know. But who knows?

I'm glad they take themselves seriously, because it looks like silly fanfiction from the outside.

Yeah, some creepypastas can seem like silly fanfiction. From some of the SCPs I've read, it's well written.

Some of it is extremely well written. That's one of the reasons why I got into the site in the first place. A lot of SCP articles have a decent amount of backstory too, so to get the full picture I find it's good to read through stuff like test logs/exploration records. Stuff like 093 [ http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-093 ] tells an amazing story if you look into it.

Never seen that one before. Had a good laugh.

I wanted to post there once. It was too intimidating.

I sporadically hang out in their chat. They're usually a pretty good lot. Yoric intimidates the hell put of me though.

I remember reading up on some of the stuff a couple years ago. It always seemed to smack of one-upsmanship and me-tooism. I never did get very far into it.

I heard of the SCP foundation a year or so ago, through writing/worldbuilding subs in Reddit. The embarrassing truth is that it was lost in the ocean of bookmarks and I was trying to madly remember what the hell the site was called. Luckily, it came up in the discussions a few weeks back. I applied for them and got accepted. And now I've spent a week writing my first entry because I need to make it perfect and stuff.

Yeah? No chance you can tell us what it is?

Writing about a Thingy That Does Unusual Stuff (the cliched part) and the unexpected procedural problems trying to study and contain it that may or may not be the direct result of the Thingy's effects (the hopefully interesting part).

It's actually been a lot fun writing this because I need to be brief and to the point while still keeping it interesting - the entries aren't supposed to be short stories, after all. I still need to read a lot more of the SCP site to try to mesh this thing with other entries, if possible.

I applied/got in almost a year ago. I'm still not willing to put anything up in the way of articles, although I have a few passable ideas for tales that might see the light of day eventually.
