The Shin Megami Tensei/Persona Thread

Aight. Will Metaphor have a re-release next year? Because I'm not buying this shit again years later like SMTV....

Also what've seen, the dialogue really comes off like modern day Persona cringe....
They said outright they weren't gonna do it. Depends if you take them at their word.

Did atlus actually OFFICIALLY say this or was that leaker who was making shit up? Cause i'm not finding it.

I remember Atlus saying reload was "all about the base game remake" implying it would not have The Answer DLC intentionally and that's why it's not on the season pass (persona having a season pass blergh). We know what happened.

This was back during the metaphor media cycle. But they did say that metaphor would not have a "royal" type enhanced version come out. But who knows! They could change their mind for money.

Metaphor just came and went with no impact, which is bad when it's a big budget title from a known publisher.

This is a good retrospective of the Raidou games i would recommend you watch. Its a shame what they did to the remake of the first game.
One of my favorite SMT games, It holds up fairly well in terms of its looks and story I feel but my only issue with it was the random encounters in the cities, Always struck me as it would have been 10x better if they limited combat outside the dark world to scripted fights. I wonder if a hack out there exists that disables them.

I felt like I was going insane when Metaphor came out because everyone kept praising it to the heavens and I just kept having more and more complaints the longer I played.

Why does it run so badly looking as mid as it does?

Why is the fantasy racism so annoyingly preachy and over the top?

Why is the fairy such a fucking bitch to the MC? Isn't she like his childhood friend or whatever?

Why are there bullet sponge enemies in a turn based RPG?

Why is there a time management system crudely grafted into the game when it adds nothing and serves no purpose?

Why is everything so purposely sexless and sanitized to the point of looking silly? Will has more curves than Hulkenberg for fuck's sake.

Why is all the dialogue so childish and melodramatic I feel like I'm watching an after school special on racism.

Why are there only two ambient and one battle tracks that play over and over and fucking over again?

Why can't I fast travel without going through four different loading screens?

Man I did not like Metaphor even a little bit, I fear for P6.

It turns out it's easier to keep people in a Persona game if the beginning is rock solid and then the quality just drops off and the story becomes more and more nonsensical into each dungeon.
That's been standard SMT for awhile though. It always starts falling apart somewhere near the midpoint, usually in the forms of the Law/Chaos reps snapping out of nowhere.

I honestly think it's mostly the aesthetics and VN-esque dating mechanics. Could you truly imagine P5 being as popular as it is if it still had Kaneko art for the humans, as an example?

Why does it run so badly looking as mid as it does?
I didn't have any issues running it for the most part but I did notice some hangups, and it did have this weird issue where the game would lose audio and I had to fiddle with options
Why is the fantasy racism so annoyingly preachy and over the top?
I thought it was weird how openly racist they were to the like bottom 3 races in their hierarchy but I didn't get preachy, except maybe from chatter from the party/Gallica in regards to the church because they hate you.
Why is the fairy such a fucking bitch to the MC? Isn't she like his childhood friend or whatever?
Definitely agree, but she's not a childhood friend I think. Story shenanigans aside you're just associates in the rebellion but that doesn't mean she can be such a cunt all the time, worse than Morgana in P5
Why are there bullet sponge enemies in a turn based RPG?
Didn't notice this except for when I went for the hard mode final boss and even then I did the Warlord cheese with frigid fortress tactic to spam extra markers from hitting weakness because I wanted it over with.
Why is there a time management system crudely grafted into the game when it adds nothing and serves no purpose?
It's to appeal to P5/persona players who loved that daily life shit.
Why is everything so purposely sexless and sanitized to the point of looking silly? Will has more curves than Hulkenberg for fuck's sake.
I actually didn't mind this because I was over how you inevitably fall into a harem with all the female social links in Persona and how it's a "cute" high school life sim plus jrpg.
Why is all the dialogue so childish and melodramatic I feel like I'm watching an after school special on racism.
It did feel very campy and dumb and I hate to shove it off onto P5 but it feels like more sins of the father with P5, I didn't enjoy the dialogue much in that either, but the comedic parts of Metaphor were fine.
Why are there only two ambient and one battle tracks that play over and over and fucking over again?
This is just how Atlus do. Every city at least had one daytime and night time track, and each (main) dungeon has a unique track but the generic labyrinth/forest overworld dungeon tracks did grate on me. Personally the two main combat tracks never got old for me because I liked the chanting and arrangement.
Why can't I fast travel without going through four different loading screens?
i could've sworn you could just tap RB twice, once to go to the city map and fast travel around there, or twice to get to the world map to portal around. If you mean travelling around to dungeons and towns I agree that was bad and you should've been able to plot your course from the same map system without needing to go to the runner (load), enter the map (load), confirm and travel (load) and get a little narration (a fake loading screen), even if the narration describing where you were headed was nice.
Man I did not like Metaphor even a little bit, I fear for P6.
I enjoyed it well enough. The story was tolerable if bland, you could see certain twists coming a mile away, and I felt like the combat was the best incarnation of recent SMT/Persona even if it could be cheesed late game. I'd want a Metaphor 2 that irons out some issues over P6 because despite being a new entry part of me feels like they're gonna still find a way to milk P5, more than they already kind of tried to with Metaphor.

Imma piggy back on your post to say what I thought about Metaphor
I felt like I was going insane when Metaphor came out because everyone kept praising it to the heavens and I just kept having more and more complaints the longer I played.
Classic FATLUS fans, hyping up anything with flashy graphics. That menu UI was a main selling seeing how fuckin complex it must have been to program. I did like the look of the menu and it's style but it got a tad annoying to traverse function wise.
Why does it run so badly looking as mid as it does?
Probably has to load particles floating about. Not a fan of the tiny shapes constantly floating.
Why is the fantasy racism so annoyingly preachy and over the top?
I didn't think it was preachy, if anything they showed the reason why eldas should be discriminated. They can turn into destructive humans.
Why is the fairy such a fucking bitch to the MC? Isn't she like his childhood friend or whatever?
I fuckin hated the english VA for the fairy. Everyone else was doing a Medieval/Old World-esque accent, while the fairy was talking like someone from California. Play the game in Japanese. English VA work is total ass nowadays.
Why are there bullet sponge enemies in a turn based RPG?
Welcome to Japanese RPG programing. Wanna make the game harder? ADD MORE HEALTH.
Why is there a time management system crudely grafted into the game when it adds nothing and serves no purpose?
Persona fans can't function without time management.
Why is everything so purposely sexless and sanitized to the point of looking silly? Will has more curves than Hulkenberg for fuck's sake.
Anything is better than teenaged girls in skimpy outfits to keep retards' attention. I will agree that Hulken's ass is insulting. Worse than Hank Hill ass syndrome....
Why is all the dialogue so childish and melodramatic I feel like I'm watching an after school special on racism.
You're playing an ATLUS game.
Why are there only two ambient and one battle tracks that play over and over and fucking over again?
I agree that the battle soundtrack isn't for longtime listening to.
Why can't I fast travel without going through four different loading screens?
I haven't had a problem but I'm playing on PC.
Man I did not like Metaphor even a little bit, I fear for P6.
Lol imaging having any hope for a good Persona game after 2.

@LavenderMenace
It makes sense to discriminate against Elda because they can turn into highly destructive humans.
They don't know that though. Not until Will literally transforms into one in front of the entire city.

During the campfire scene after the fortress in the intro Grius even says no one knows what humans are or where they come from.

Multiple characters say this actually, there's even a schizo dude in the Grand Soren slums ranting about how humans are aliens.

And even that is nonsense because of the origins of every race. It was done by Louis just to utterly discredit you and it was a knowing lie, but it's beneficial to his end goals to do so. I think I can appreciate that, out of everything in the game's writing, Louis is probably one of their better villains they've had. Even if we're only really told rather than shown that he rose through the ranks and became a prodigy star of the military with a lot of sway, his public appearances do have him come off as very charismatic and agreeable, where in Persona 5 all the palace adults, besides knowing they're evil because of them having a palace in the first place, come off as cartoon villains who are egotistical jerks, and they seemed to know this because of the twist to the final palace in P5R where it's still a palace because it comes from a twisted obsession/view, but it's out of a misguided view of wanting to save people from misery.

With Louis you have it in your mind and are told he's a bad guy, but he never lets the mask slip in public, or even among his cohorts. He's also a hypocrite but not one that gets pissy when called out on it. He says he hates lying but he totally obfuscates the truth by omission and twisting apparent facts. When called out on this he doesn't really acknowledge it because to him it's not a lie, just concealing the true motive and leaving you/the people to find it out for themselves like the smug prick he is.

I seriously don't get the "metaphor is sexless" complaint, game might not be persona where you have an obligatory beach episode or like SMT with obvious waifu bait demons, but it does have some overt eye candy moments like the fairy companion basically running around in a one piece swimsuit, that furry chick in a sports bra and tight shorts, and the doll eyes chick wearing a highly suggestive costume during her singing scene.

after like 2 months (i dont have a lot of free time so it took me a bit), i have finally completed metaphor. in which john metaphor reveals his true form as john refantazio and uses the power of friendship to defeat an evil british twink from becoming god
i joke, but i mean thats kinda true. not that im complaining. this game was good. like i had a genuinely fun time with it, becoming absolutely broken up until about the final boss section because i shouldve given protagonist john refantazio the holy knight proclamation because he could tank almost any hit with the ability to basically repel every attack and make the boss have zero turns just to fuck with him. a suboptimal build but i did beat it anyway and liked the game. not enough to replace expedition 33 as my favorite rpg so far, but still pretty damn good

i am not touching another jrpg for several months now because fuck that nonce. i can still fix louis, hes still savable guys i swear.

I mean Louis is kinda in nocture, and even less kinda in strange journey. You could play those to fix him.
