Any Mod which violates these guidelines is prohibited from being hosted on Overwolf’s platform(s)

So we definitely won't see Wicked Whims, Basemental Drugs, and Extreme Violence on this platform.

I do wonder if they'll let players still download and install mods the old fashioned way, or if that will be going away too.

I read that article too, it's pretty much what Bethesda did with Fallout 4. My theory is, with this platform, EA will try to mitigate permawallers, since the mods will be free and there won't be no early access. But I suppose modders won't get paid for uploading their content there, so I don't know.
Besides the list of don'ts for mods is too long, and it won't stop people from getting the ones with questionable content in other places.
Some are gonna whine about it and I can taste the salty tears already.

Some bit of TS4 (and Project Rene/TS5) news:

TS4 will be getting some It Takes Two content, free for all players.

There is a major bug in TS4, where Sims will constantly do mean interactions with each other autonomously. The patch that was released a few days ago does not fix that issue, as The Sims team is "aware" of it. It appears that the bug affects players that don't have the Snowy Escape EP, due to some sort of bit of code where it tries to do something with that EP, but can't, which results in this.

Project Rene has been hacked into, and has been pirated. It also appears that Project Rene will also have Denuvo, which already puts the game into "DON'T BUY" territory, and has various multi-player functionality.

I don’t understand why no one has created competition for this series?

I look at Halo and it competes with COD and Battlefield. That’s not even getting into how many FPS games there are in general.

Why can’t life simulation like this be spread out a little more so Egregious Assholes aren’t the only ones controlling the field?

It also could be a way that EA allows paid CC, by having them in a curated platform, and then EA takes a cut out of every CC purchase.

Also, it appears that some mod makers had to remove their interactions in High Schools, after HSY came out. Sacrifiical, the modder who made the Extreme Violence mod, said that those violent interactions won't be useable in High Schools:

It also appears that TurboDriver (creator of Wicked Whims), and Basemental (Basemental Drugs), also had to make their mod interactions unusable in High Schools and teens:

I'm not sure if EA told them to do that, or if it's some sort of hard-coded restrictions in the High School lot for HSY.

It's probably due to the sheer amount of capital needed to make a Life Simulation game. Also, given how big The Sims is, it would be very difficult for a competitor to make way into the genre, unless EA fucks up hard, and EA has already fucked up hard, but it doesn't matter, due to the lack of competitors. It also reminds me of the Pokémon franchise, which is so massive, that other mon competitors haven't made too much headway against them. Yo-Kai Watch didn't really catch on outside of Japan, Temtem is I don't know what they're at at this point, and Digimon is still going, even though they're still smallfry in comparison.

Reading the posts it seems more like a attempt to avoid drawing the ire of EA or any one big enough to hurt them, HSY made them explicitly under 18 which means that a sex mod isnt going to touch them with a ten foot pole, the drug and violence mods are in the same camp where EA probably wouldn't be too happy at the idea of high schoolers in their life sim game smoking crack and killing each other in the hallway no matter how realistic that is. EA has set out their Official modding guidelines so some modders who either outright break the Curseforge rules or modders who tow the line don't want to risk it, even if they don't post their mods to CF, that might not stop EA from sending a take down over a mod breaking the rules.

Today's delivery drop includes some Dragon Age themed CAS content, out of all things:

The delivery drop also includes a fix for the bug where Sims would do mean interactions to each on their own excessively.

And it turns out Project Rene may not actually be called Sims 5 when it releases. It sounds like the 2013 version of SimCity all over again.

A new TS4 roadmap for this quarter has been posted. Content includes the teased Infant lifestage, two Unique Kits (they just said Unique and Kits in the same sentence), one Expansion Pack, and a new world. And we still don't have a World Editing tool, as Simmers have been stuck with the same TS4 worlds (I think) forever.
wtf is the infant life stage, is it inbetween baby and toddler or replacing baby?

Bumping, as EA posted a 2022 in Review for TS4, with various facts:

I wasn't expecting Anger to be the 2nd highest cause of death, as I expected Fire to be high instead.
having romantic is kind of meh in TS4 but most of the traits are shit though, however the 289 million wohoos vs 436.5 million sims tells quite a tale.
It's the life stage between Baby and Toddler, where they'll be more like the babies in TS2 and TS3.
i don't really get that change to be honest, if they meant more like 1 year old style of playthrough then it is silly but it seems to be something "the community" keeps asking for.

The two new UNIQUE KITS for TS4 have been revealed, and will be releasing this Thursday:

The Simtimates kit seems to be a watered-down version of the intimate apparel that was in The Sims 3 Master Suite Stuff pack, and doesn't have any of the famous objects from it, i.e. Glamour Puss, Delicate Dangling Participle, and the Seat of Romance. And the bathroom clutter kit makes it clear that EA is going to nickle and dime on each individual room type in regards to clutter kits.

Anyone who gets nickled and dimed on these kits deserves it, as there are plenty of great free room-centric CC floating around on the Internet, and has been forever.

The hair dryer in the Bathroom Clutter Kit, looks like something that would be in a PS1 or PS2 game, and not a game released in 2014:

And that inspired someone to make a better looking hair dryer clutter object:

the low texture resolution doesnt help and this is the game probably set on the highest settings. just make slightly high lods for being closer to an object and a higher texture resolution already ea.

That artwork is downright creepy and the definition of corporate intersectionalism. A fat broad and a weird situation in bathroom with black people. Way to go EA. If I were Will Wright I'd have a stroke.
