The Sims Modding Community - "[Sims 4] Incest, Teen Romance, Babies For Everyone and more! UPDATED FOR 1.5.149.1020!"

Post-Apocalyptic settings are pretty cool and add a bit of grittiness to the game's otherwise clean-cut look, but the new game pack looks like more of the same inoffensive, dull content as always. There might be a few items in there that interest me, but I doubt it'll be worth getting the whole game for.

Funny you mention Fallout though. The first time I encountered Fallout was when someone adapted the plot of the first two games into a story on the original Sims Exchange.

I'm really unimpressed by the new expansion. Personally, I want them to add more vacation destinations instead of another dull desert world. This new expansion makes no sense to me, considering we already have a desert world. Why even make a Strangetown EP when you can't introduce aliens anymore....?
I'd much prefer destination worlds akin to Al Simhara, Shang Simla, tropical islands, Champs Les Sims, etc. Unfortunately, I have a habit of buying every Sims expansion, ever (yes, it's tragic, I know), but I definitely won't rush into buying that one...

In my opinion, this is the town that should have been included with Get to Work. The science career and aliens are peak Strangetown content, after all.

As for the reason to make this Game Pack now, my guesss is to lure Sims 2 players who are still on the fence about The Sims 4. Considering the reaction I saw in this week’s Sim Secret, that was not as succesful as expected. I wonder what the regular Sims player who does not bother with Simblr and ¨The Sim Community¨ thinks.

Personally, I am waiting for Making Magic. It could be a Game Pack like they did with the Vampires, and not a whole EP.

I also don't understand why some Simmers really want to play in apocalyptic setting in The Sims, akin to the Fallout series.
sometimes a new coat of paint can actually make something immeasurably more interesting again

it was actually surprisingly easy (but time consuming) to do something like this with sims 2, you could download a bunch of cc and replace pretty much everything so that you could turn it into something medieval or grungy and post apocalyptic. with sims 4 you still can't even make your own fucking neighborhood and everyone has an iphone stuck up their ass at all times now so it's kind of impossible now

strangerville is admittedly the first sims 4 pack i've seen that actually sounds kinda rad, but i'm a sucker for paranormal stuff and i loved strangetown in sims 2 so even a halfassed attempt from ea at recreating that magic is enough to get me interested. it's sims 4 so they'll probably fuck it up but it's nice to at least see them attempting something kind of new, even though i still can't tell what this pack actually adds

That would be me. I was pretty involved in the community way back when, mostly released mods for TS3. Never modded TS4 beyond a couple of simple autonomy mods, and I'm definitely not planning to get back into any of that, either. I just play to enjoy the game (and I find it very enjoyable despite its bad reputation; you need every expansion ever, though, to have a pleasant experience). This new expansion has me baffled. It's like something entirely obsolete that nobody wants or needs. It would have been awesome with GTW. Now, it offers literally nothing anyone would want at this point.

Yesssss, I would love Makin' Magic! OMG, I'd love that so much! I was pleasantly surprised by their Get Famous EP, to be honest. It still sucks in the way all TS4 content sucks, but it was better and closer to the original TS1 expansion than I expected. I find it enjoyable. I will forever miss the way you could actively decide which way to sing a jingle, or which way to play a scene, though, like you could in TS1. And pet shows. And pet careers. And ... oh, let's just not go there.

Makin' Magic would be so awesome. But it's not gonna happen. It's gonna be the same watered down content that all of the EPs are. It will fill you with nostalgia for the original game, but it will not deliver :( :heart-empty:

Not to mention they tried to lure Sims 2 players back by including Dustin Broke and Dirk Dreamer as townies in Get Famous, which don't look a thing like their original TS2 counterparts, and the rest of their families are nowhere to be seen. (So no Darren Dreamer, no Brandi Broke, no Beau Broke, and no Brandi's third child.) They also recently added the TS2-era Pleasant family to the Gallery for use, presumably for this purpose as well.

It doesn't help when fans have already made TS4 versions of the TS2 characters a long time ago. Then again it also doesn't help when there's such limited room for families in the game.

The review embargo for the Strangeville Game Pack has been lifted, and it's not looking good at all. Some of the highlights, I mean lowlights, of the SP include:

The laptops cannot be closed at all, and are only usable on desks. It's already a major downgrade to TS3's laptops, which can be closed and used on the floor.

The cryptic text that the SimGurus were using to hype up the release of the SP will actually be a thing in the game:

One of the houses in the new neighborhood is pretty much a carbon-copy of one of the base game neighborhood houses, with just the bathroom being different sized, and the furnishings inside being the differences. One Simmer even throws complete shade about this house in a video review:

The endgame for this SP is something on it's own in terms of fail, do watch out for major spoilers in this link, and in this playthrough video below:

I know I shouldn't be, but I'm actually a little disappointed. I loved Strangetown in Sims 2 (Even with all the autism surrounding it in the fanbase) and I loved the weirder more alien side of Sims. Damn, what a shame.

Ya know, I'm halfway between being glad that they tried something actually new for the Sims series and being disappointed in myself for thinking they could pull it off.

Grant Rodiek has been whipping up a storm of verbal diarrhea regarding The Sims recently. Here's his response to a Simmer that asked if Casinos would be added to TS4:

View attachment 643629

I'm late but Grant once again just spouts straight nonsense to dismiss a request. There are plenty of games rated as low as E for Everyone with a content warning of "Simulated Gambling." The ESRB will not give you an M or AO rating for a casino unless it somehow becomes a place where you spend real-world currency (which, knowing EA, I wouldn't be surprised if that idea wasn't at least on the table).

I'm also highly amused by the suggestion that anyone on the Sims team cares about "super interesting" gameplay. You motherfuckers released a laundry pack.

Powerlevel but I played Strangerville and I think it's weird that there are actually people that are loving every second and item in this pack

Lots of loadingscreens, vague story that isn't really that interesting, and a couple of small glitches. The items in this pack are kind of mediocre and the way you play the storyline is just basically like playing a quest in the sims freeplay or some shit

5/10 would not buy

Unfortunately, that’s the way I think almost all of ts4s packs could be described. Mediocre.

also played the pack
I agree about it feeling like a kind of lame task, and it having a vague story. i wish it was more like the old sims 2 story packs tbh, but i did have a good time i liked the aesthetic of it for it being a game pack instead of an expansion. if it was a full blown expansion id be pissed the fuck off
rating:
maybe a 6/10, pirate it instead of buying if you wanna play
