The Sims Modding Community - "[Sims 4] Incest, Teen Romance, Babies For Everyone and more! UPDATED FOR 1.5.149.1020!"

I just started reading this thread, and all I can say is "What the flying fuck?"

I've never played Sims, but I am honestly surprised to see a game with such popularity among normies to attract this much unwarranted autism, idiocy, and depravity.

I wonder if there are any history-themed mods for Sims? That could be either something really good or really bad.
The Medieval themed stuff for Sims 2 and Sims 3 are pretty good IMO. Like posters mentioned MTS is a great start (especially for actual mods instead of clothes and whatnot), but there’s also The Plum Bob Keep/Medieval Sims and a lot of old LiveJournals and historical Sims Tumblrs with masterposts and the like. If you don’t like medieval stuff there’s also Victorian/Roaring 20’s/60’s content to name some of the more popular time periods.

I really wanted to like part 4, but while there are things I liked, it feel short. I hated how there was such little room to put houses (three had a similar problem) and it was buggy. They better not fuck up part 5.

If they maybe updated it with the Showtime game or Superstar, I'd like it.

There’s this one person on Simblesse Oblige (a TS1 forum that still exists) that has a caveman themed historical Sims 1 game where everyone wears loincloths and pray to tree gods and stuff. It’s actually kinda interesting. There’s an entire themed game board there, and I remember seeing some adorable regency period skins too.

It seems like that the more that I play Sims 2 and 3, the more I realize how bare bones and hollow Sims 4 is in terms of features, even to the smallest details. Besides the obvious omissions such as burglars, police, and firefighters, there's also the small things like your sim's head not being in the pie menu in TS4, when it was that way in previous games, and TS4's Expansions/Game Packs/Stuff Packs all using the same font in the name in the logo, compared to how past Sims games would have different font (for the most part) in the Expansion/Stuff Pack name.

I'm still peeved about Grant Rodiek's justification for not including dog houses in TS4's Cats & Dogs.

Dog houses a relic from the past? What kind of AR shit is that?

Anyway, to add onto the lackingness of TS4, how hard is it to fuck up a 2d neighborhood representation?
In the Sims 1 you had this visualization of your world:

In TS4 it's some sort of minimalism that exists only to cover up the fact an intern with limited hours is the only one allowed to come up with this stuff:

Here's the secrets from Friday, and I do have a question about #12. For those of you have played the console versions of The Sims games, is there an option to take screenshots and then save them to a file to be able to put it on your computer? Then again, I'm not sure how many players play the console versions.
People use capture cards, the Xbox One has direct youtube uploading (you can stream off your xbox one as well with both mixer and twitch, but it doesn't have all the bells and whistles as doing it with your pc), and the Playstation 4 has a screen capture function. You can to put the screen shots on an external hard drive, which every console gamer has those free games you get every month add up quick. Don't quote me on this on this I don't really play console games. It's also people have always taken photos of their computer screen and it will never stop being adorable.

A few years ago they released the SimCity reboot where EA tried to go with a strategy of selling a stripped down version of the base game and selling expansions and content packs later. People did not take kindly to it and the game faded out. Cities: Skylines then came out and was seen as the game Simcity should have been and became a massive hit. I wonder if the same thing could happen to the Sims franchise. The Sims 4 tried a similar strategy of selling a stripped down base game with paying more for extra content that should have been there in the first case, but it seemed to be successful anyway. I wonder if EA presses their luck with The Sims 5 and they get a backlash, will someone like Paradox come along and make a better life simulation game?

Oh an indie darling dethroning EA would have totally happen if EA went with their original concept for the Sims 4. Simcity 2013's critical backlash made EA scrap the game and develop a new game only a year before release. I remember when the online-only Sims 4 was leaked people were pissed. You would think EA would have learn from the commercial failure of the Sims Online, but at least that was a spin-off.

Oh wait, they never learn because they keep making shitty Sims mobile games.

I'm still bitter they murdered the SimCity series.

Given the massive amount of investment needed to make a life simulation game (presumably), it's most likely a cost that game companies would not want to put in to trying to compete with The Sims series. Not to mention making a game where it has all (or most) of the notable features that The Sims has, without it looking like a complete copycat-job, as well as trying to draw from the massive Sims fanbases, as gamers are reluctant to change games sometimes. Remember that Maxis originally did not want to make The Sims, but Electronic Arts was the ones that pushed for the idea, notably Luc Barthelet. I still miss Luc, even though he tried and failed to get TSO (after it re-named to EA-Land) back up, he was one of the reasons why The Sims exists today.

Speaking of which, what have the former Sims team members been up to lately? The last time I heard, Rachel Franklin, TS4's original Director, was moved to EA's Mobile division. Daniel Hiatt was one of the Sims devs that was there from the beginning to get caught up in the recent lay-offs. Ryan Vaughan also left years ago, rather shortly after TS4's release. Lucy Bradshaw, back then Maxis's General Manager, also left years ago too.

Also, someone apparently made a mod so you can put ballgags on Toddlers and Children... I have no words:

Also, The Sims team is hosting a livestream next week for a Patch that will be rolled out, although they're not attempting to hype it at all. It's even moreso the case with this follow-up tweet.

Things this livestream is NOT about: Cars, New/Current Life States or Stages, NPCs, CAW, Open World/Neighborhood, Terrain Tools, Color Wheel, Beaches, Swimming, Newspapers, Pizza, Fruitcake, Llamas, Bunnies, Console or Mobile...I'm sure I am forgetting some. Now stop guessing!

On the subject of an alternative to Sims, you'd think the Chinese ripoff factories would have made something about it by now like a hypothetical "Playing God" series.

Someone needs to make a "spiritual successor" indie game like Cities: Skylines did for SimCity and Stardew Valley did for Harvest Moon/Animal Crossing. The market is open, why not? I feel the same about the tycoon games, they still have fans of the genre.
