The Sims Modding Community - "[Sims 4] Incest, Teen Romance, Babies For Everyone and more! UPDATED FOR 1.5.149.1020!"

So this job listing EA has put up for a Voice Editor is confirmation that TS4 will be getting a 9th Expansion Pack soon. The big questions now are will this EP get leaked early like how Discover University was leaked, what will it be about, and how many more EPs will TS4 get? In comparison, while TS4 currently has 8 EPs, 8 GPs, and 16 (!) SPs, TS1 had 7 EPs, TS2 had 8 EPs, 9 SPs, and a few items in the TS2 store, and TS3 had 11 EPs, 9 SPs, and 10 DLC Worlds, as well as all of the things they sold in the TS3 Store.

And either this is very bad timing, or EA trying to put out subliminal messaging, but they celebrate Internation Women's Day, when they put the Laundry Day Stuff Pack on sale...

Is EA, dare I say... based and redpilled?

So I decided to join FreeSO after reading this thread, and boy, let me tell you what a bunch of fucking drama queens play this game. Never expected to run into SO many people with Lolcow personalities. The FreeSO discord is like a high school fight about who is more popular with people grabbing screenshots of each other so they can say “Look, they were SO MEAN to me!” This is the type of community who would go out of their way to dox someone on discord because heaven forbid you never put out a plate of food for their Sim when they got on the lot.

I played FreeSO for a little while and joined the Discord at the time. After seeing the way some of those people acted, I had to search here to see if anyone had talked about them and saw your post. Most of the people were fine, but there was so much drama in the Discord, in my opinion from the mods in particular. So much powertripping over tiny things and totally unable to accept any kind of criticism. There were also a fair number of users who seemed to confuse the game with real life and take it super seriously like it's real money or real property. I suspect a lot of the heavy users are losers IRL and running a lot in FreeSO is the closest they will ever come to experiencing real-life success.

yes! And they are all Lolcows. All of them. I stuck with FreeSO for a bit but gave up when I realized the mods are not only permitting this kind of activity, but they encourage it by allowing their Discord to be the playing ground of these fools’ drama. That same Discord where you are required to submit bugs and glitches in the game. The same Discord you have to ask to contact a mod in if you need assistance. The same Discord you will be asked to post a crash-report screenshot of an error message should you attempt to run two windows of the game at once, you know, so everyone can join in the group shaming.

I thought this was such a strange coincidence that they were OK with this drama being held so publicly (sarcasm) that I did some digging. I also think it is quite strange that the main website to download FreeSO has an expired security protocol, in fact the only part of the site that has an active security protocol is the one with the server for their main log in.

FreeSO is currently administrated by RHY3756547, a networker from Scotland who goes by Rhys Simpson. He is the writer of most the blog posts and updates for the game and is the one who takes credit for porting it to a new platform before EA yanked the proverbial cord on their game.

A tiny bit of digging told me Rhys did not complete this feat on his own. In fact, he was just one participant of a group project, and he wasnt apart of the original group aimed at restoring the game.

The first main project aimed at restoring TSO was called The Sims Online Restored and it sounds like early in production they knew they wanted an open source code but they were forced to shut down due to a cease and desist issued by EA games.

However, it was believed that the C&D was an elaborate scam as it was issued to TSOR’s project leader Ghost after they took money for the game:
Ghost informed the public that only those that paid $50 with PayPal would be eligible to test the game, though partial installments were accepted. Over six months, $2400 had been raised by roughly 100 people into Ghost's account, which roused suspicion in former developers that had been terminated and banned from the project for forbidden communication with other banned forum members; at no point did the project have any visible progress beyond basic OpenGL and XNA lesson demos and format readers, whatsoever. In less than a year past its inception, with no progress, Ghost closed the website and ceased the hosting contracts, leaving a goodbye message for a few weeks. None of the donated money was returned, and the takedown notice was never posted.

With TSOR dissolved the project split into two groups, Project Dollhouse and Niotso. This is where things get interesting.

Niotso (ran by a dude called Fatbag) wanted to stay true to the original goals of TSOR but felt there was too much drama between Ghost and the project leaders, so when TSOR dissolved Niotso was born: New Implementation of the Sims Online. TSOR and Niotso share a common goal in bringing The Sims Online back as a public server, and they are opposed to FreeSO’s current private server status.

Niotso's aim is to construct a clean and functional game engine for The Sims Online that is as faithful to the original as possible, under the guidance of strict rules that will ensure that the project falls under fair use in all use cases.

Niotso’s website went dead in 2014, but let’s take a look at where Project Dollhouse went.

According to the Niotso wiki:
The programmers of TSOR, Fatbag (then X-Fi6) and Afr0, continued their work anyway by branching the code into Niotso and Project Dollhouse, respectively. They now work independently.

Now this is where I start to pull up broken links and completely missing forums where these exchanges supposedly occurred.

Instead, I found yet another wiki, this time however hosted by something called TPaw, a handle for one T Casey Wilcox
BEC4EE57-9541-4EA0-BF9A-DA60176BDF96.jpeg

A145E9DB-5219-4D2E-90B7-C36408E7F1A0.png

According to the “TPaw” wiki, Tomas also known by his screenname IRL Tomas, “had been involved in” Project Dollhouse and TSOR and put his furry-stories on hold in favor of pursuing these projects, implying he was a modder:

FreeSO is an open source project aimed at reverse engineering The Sims Online. It shares code from it's predecessors, Project Dollhouse and TSOR. IRL Tomashad been involved with all of them since TSOR, putting TPaw and other projects on hiatus.

Conflicts between IRL Tomas and the TSOR leader arouse very early on starting with the very concept of TSOR being open source.

Now getting back to Project Dollhouse, how does this relate? Here is what one Sims wiki has to say about Afr0:

and here is what Tomas’ furry wiki has to say about it:

It all goes back to the Discord. The entire Wiki is somewhat of an explanation about why Tomas doesn’t like FreeSO and Rhys essentially, although it might explain why they are obsessed with IP banning. If you can get through the :autism:

FreeSO Discord
Blindsided by FreeSO, IRL Tomas wanted to redeem and created the Blue Rose, a small but functional FreeSO launcher and updater for FreeSO. He would later go on to the FreeSO Discord, formally New Sims Online, when Skype proved to be a handful for Rhys. IRL Tomas invested a lot of time into FreeSO Discord since none of the moderators would support him. He also it as a chance to provide support for Blue Rose.

He handed the Discord to Rhys when he caught him sharing disgust for meeting someone else who shared a similar views as him. As a consequence, the Discord was labeled as official. Rhys' justification was because IRL Tomas was never a staff member.

My Simulation
My Simulation was a attempt to start his own community inspired by a defunct Sims 2 roleplaying forum of the same name. He created a Discord where he shared the link on his profile. A mixture of formally banned members and a few members of FreeSO.ml, the longest running FreeSO server, joined.

IRL Tomas freely shared his frustration with FreeSO. He shared a "fuck you" blog post that was aimed at Rhys but not meant for Rhys to see immediately. Even though Rhys was never on his server, he got him banned from the forums, anyway, with little warning until his next visit to the forums. This quickly lead to paranoia that someone was sending information back to FreeSO but he didn't know who.

Private Beta
Tensions reached their peek when IRL Tomas shared a small amount of screenshots to My Simulation, since most of the members were never going to be able to play the game, anyway, or were already in the server. Despite this impression, he was banned from private beta without warning but the person who sent the information back to Rhys did come clean.

Before the opening of private beta opened to the public, IRL Tomas and his friend were able to login and sign up, respectfully, into the private beta server. He was amazed he wasn't banned on the server while his friend was quick to point out the oversight. The moderator who convinced Rhys to send the invite to IRL Tomas was to angry at him. He tried to apologize while his friend and him kept trying to warn of the oversight.

On the eve of going public, Rhys quickly implanted IP banning. The two were banned at the same FreeSO saw an influx in registrations from people eager to sign up. The overload in sign ups caused his server to crash. FreeSO used the crash as an opportunity to paint IRL Tomas as a stupid villain.

If you didn’t figure out that :autism: sounds like Tomas was a developer as well and wanted to be back on the FreeSO project so he created a launcher and Discord in an attempt to win them back after bruising Rhys’ ego by claiming to be the better developer. It sounds like Tomas ran the Discord until he handed it over to Rhys who decided it would be the official place to hold business, and it sounds like he removed Tomas’ moderating rights because he wasn’t an “official” FreeSO mod. Oh, and he bruised Rhys’ ego.

Tomas creates his own Discord community, My Simulation, where enough people have already been fucking banned from FreeSO’s early development stages to follow him. Tomas feels secure enough in his new following to share a “fuck you” post about Rhys to his personal blog where Rhys sees it immediately and bans him from the FreeSO forums.

Tomas is still apart of the private beta apparently and leaked photos of it to his community of mostly-banned members. He gets banned from the private beta, and before FreeSO goes public those who were banned find they have access to the servers. Doesn’t last long though because Rhys implements IP banning on the day of public launch to keep those mean boolies away. FreeSO was unable to deal with all the attention they get on launch and their servers crash, they blame the failure on him.

FreeSO goes back private to work on a new API and Tomas creates a new server to act as backup. Tomas says he “criticized FreeSO's unwillingness to let the public test the new API since the whole point was to prevent what happened the first time.”

If you read on the Wiki (I won’t jeepunds like he wanted to keep all the forum and other info about their past failures up and the community didn’t like that. Somehow him and his My Simulation group got labeled as Nazis. Boy, does that sound like every Simming community I have encountered.

The second part is again heavy in :autism: but there are other sources to support it. Apparently FreeSO received a C&D after attempts to make a mobile version:
F1BAA68A-0BB4-4EB1-9E96-10F9D488EBEC.png

Not wholly related to the C&D, this was written further down in Rhys’ signed blog post and I found it of note:

Here is a short post of Rhys and another developer quick to tell people that acshtually FreeSO and Niotso are the same while getting clearly bent out of shape in the same post

Here is a relevant post with someone asking about the status of Niotso, with Fatbag himself answering, and truly a cow worthy reply from Rhys Simpson, still ego hurt over being told he wasn’t a good developer:

Keep reading the thread and Fatbag and someone named Blayer discuss coding together. Afr0 asks Blayer what it is that he helps Fatbag with:
BDE830AD-2685-4299-A0B2-8287B331AF97.png

They get the game sort of running in the thread if you can follow and Rhys admits they did good work. It goes dead till 2016 when Blayer says they are still working on Niotso on a Discord community, and the thread is locked.

When you search “Rhys Niotso” on google one of the first hits is a user page on the Niotso Wiki...belonging to Tomas:

.
User:Zc456

I was a player of The Sims Online from 2003 to 2005. When it shut down, I moved to Second Life. TSOR and it's dependents, Project Dollhouse and FreeSO, rekindled my hopes in playing the game again. But it was never meant to be apparently since I was banned from the community, mocked and people continued to telegraph back to Rhys about my friends and me to the point that it was used for a April Fools during 2017. It's been rough.
My fork wasn't any easier. I was always on my own with those who were from the community and knew something about it were too busy focusing on FreeSO or Rhys even though they themselves had been banned as well. It was a cause of a lot of frustration and it unintentionally made it's way into my issues I wrote on Github.
The Sims Online was my childhood. Despite being brought back, it's been nothing but drama. See you on Second Life.
In a previous edit, he references AidanCheddar as being his previous handle before switching to ZackCasey and this handle. Looks like he ran multiple accounts at once.

Here is Tomas defending Rhys’ decision to take over and fork the code, although it seems he changed his mind later on (and that part is surreptitiously missing):
Afr0 left the project, handing it over to Rhys, because his code caused too many problems. Afr0 returned after the Play Test furious at his modifications, spouting "I did not give you permission" to loosely quote, and threatened to kick him from project. Confused the hell out of all of us since he did and the license for Project Dollhouse allows for modifications without permission, ect... Rhys had enough with the BS and decided to finish Project Dollhouse on his own, calling it FreeSO.

Here is a conversation where Tomas doesn’t agree with the direction and tries to fork his own community, only to be told off because how dare he say it will be better than FreeSO! This is because you don’t like Rhys not because you want to do your own thing! There’s some great examples of gaslighting as well as Rhys’ supporters continue to throw his name and redirect the conversation back to him. Rhys’ supporters shame Tomas for forking off, despite the fact that Rhys himself did the very same thing.

TO SUMMARIZE:

TSOR is filled with drama, original project aimed at restoration, Ghost ghosts off with the funded money using a fake C&D. Branches into Project Dollhouse ran by Afr0 and Niotso ran by Fatbag. Niotso starts headway in making amazing progress but Fatbag’s goal is to reconstruct it. Afr0 gets busy and leaves and Rhys takes it upon himself to continue his desires of an emulator, going against Afr0’s desires and original goals (although Afr0 may not have been totally into the full reconstruction like Fatbag). Afr0 bans Rhys and the community follows Rhys because he is more popular. Timeline is questionable but Drama happens and another moderator, one who works on the servers, has a falling out with Rhys after he tells him he is the better developer and to make it up to him, makes the current FreeSO Discord. Rhys yeets him off and starts IP banning when he realizes another Simming community exists that doesn’t like him. When the servers go public and fail Tomas claims that Rhys puts the blame on him and then mocked him on April Fools with a recreation of his favorite game under the update “MyLand”.

The only parts that remain of this whole thing are the little nuggets planted by Tomas for someone to find, throughout several wikis. I have to rest my eyes for now but the reason FreeSO is such a fucking trainwreck is Rhys Simpson. This is the guy who decided official FreeSO business would be held in a public Discord jacked from a furry, possibly autistic man and is now being used as the auditorium in the online version of Mean Girls.

Wow, you really did your homework! That explains a lot.
Sadly yes, I didn’t want to clutter up my post about him but I have been doing research into Rhys Simpson and FreeSO since I tried to run two accounts at once and was banned - but not before realizing I wasn’t the only one doing that, in fact some of the OG players do this.

Rhys Simpson has organized FreeSO so the entire point of it is one massive popularity contest. The only thing to strive for is to be the top in whatever category your lot is in, whether it is a service, welcome, or shop lot. Every night the categories are updated based on overall visitor activity. Users increase their activity by having roommates who can host their lots, essentially visitors cannot visit unless someone is actively on the lot requiring someone to be active for your category position to improve. In addition, the city map is divided into neighborhoods and each neighborhood has a ranking system for online houses AND specific users who are most active. And if that wasn’t enough, every year Rhys Simpson holds a contest where you must vote and rally points to prove you are the best in each category - “Most Interesting”, “Most Funny”...just like what they do when you are graduating high school.

FreeSO advertises itself as being this great community but the entire format encourages this sort of behavior.

During my time active I helped another member get their lot to to top of a category, purely by accident, and I was inundated with OG players dropping into the lot asking me stupid fucking questions like “How do I eat?” How do I do this super simple task you learn in the first five minutes of playing, and if you don’t immediately jump to tell them how to play the game they write on Discord what a shitty person you are for not ass kissing them and how you are stopping players from learning how to play the game. Do they need help? Fuck no, it’s all about those Mean Girls popularity games and it is entirely to do with the format, and they do this whenever someone new joins the game and changes the game rankings so one of them is no longer the top. Oh yes, it is really that petty.

While you can earn money and go to shops, the OG players actually use the money system as a way to control the activities and in game success of new players. In order to have a lot just to upset this balance, you can earn money by using money items on money lots. The more people using a particular object and the higher your skill, the more money earned, forcing people again to congregate on all the same lots. If you happen to run a money lot that becomes popular the FreeSO OG players who are competing lot owners will all join your lot as a group, start making money objects, leave them half finished, have another one of them complete and sell the object so they can immediately start drama in chat about how you’re letting people ninja! You’re letting people cheat at the game! And again, if you don’t immediately jump to their aid with ass kissing and offers to make it up, they post screenshots all over Discord to “prove” what a terrible player you are, because after all, the whole point of the game is to be the most popular Simmer on the most popular lot.

Going back to account boxing (that’s the only term I know for it after online gaming) given that you are required to be in a lot and apparently watching it 24/7, some players have tried having two accounts. You see, when a lot is being hosted the game is coded specifically so as a visitor you can’t eat, food must be made for you. If you don’t have your eye on it the whole time and there should be no food offered up, they will go to the Official FreeSO Discord run by Rhys Simpson to complain about what a horrible player you are. Heaven forbid you have a tip jar on your lot so you can earn money, it is OK for OG players to do this just not new ones.

Essentially if you want to enjoy the game without popularity contests you are forced to box two Sims at once. Their sad server can’t handle this and your accounts will start crashing with an error log that will ask you to screenshot and post to Discord- it’s a trap!

I strongly suspect some of the OG account holders are also boxing characters on two accounts, but I just couldn’t stick with the drama long enough to prove it. There were many instances where I would suddenly get hit up by someone who came into the lot with someone else, the Sim they were with was always made within two weeks of the previous Sim, and the two would go through all the same actions at the same time -eating, sleeping, skilling, while I held a short conversation with only one. These instances stopped after my second account was banned but picked up once more when one of my other lot room mates was also suspected of boxing.

If anyone wants to go undercover this is the prime opportunity for cow milking. No one in that game can handle life, let alone someone being more fucking popular in a game than you, and I bet some sperging will happen when they realize that certainly no one thinks FreeSO is the great successor to the Sims Online, except perhaps those who enjoy competing for attention in their free time.

If anyone wants to go undercover this is the prime opportunity for cow jerking off. No one in that game can handle life, let alone someone being more fucking popular in a game than you, and I bet some sperging will happen when they realize that certainly no one thinks FreeSO is the great successor to the Sims Online, except perhaps those who enjoy competing for attention in their free time.

Oh, the owner of one of the most popular money lots and skill lots that were open practically 24/7 was found to be 'boxing'. They gave him a one-month ban, but not before someone came in to the Discord to complain about it, at which time the mods shut this person down and banned them and deleted all the chat exchange so that there would be no evidence of disagreement. I watched that happen in real time and it was one of the first red flags to me about what these people were like. I didn't personally have serious problems with other players, in fact most of the players I interacted with were rather interesting people. I think a lot of them are older ladies, grandmas specifically, who play it kind of like other old ladies play Farmville or something. Most of the behavior that rubbed me the wrong way from both mods and other players wasn't directed at me personally, just stuff I observed that put me off.

CallMeKevin played FreeSO, but I find it highly intriguing that he named the video and refers to the game as the Sims Online, when this is actually an emulation called FreeSO. Kevin has been around the gaming community for a while so I would think he would know to get the name of the game right for the video 🤔 unless for some reason he isn’t wanting to redirect traffic back to FreeSO, can’t imagine why anyone would want to do that.

The whole video is him unironically trolling the shit out of these people in exactly the same way they go after new players who aren’t part of their in-group.

Actually, if anyone is a fan of Kevin they know how he trolls the shit out of multiplayer games by pretending to be an idiot. He comes across as almost apprehensive about this video and doesn’t go full tilt like he goes for Gmod, Comedy Night, and basically any other game. Does Kevin read KiwiFarms?

EDIT: the comments on his video are all about how insane they went when he kept throwing away fresh plates of food, with people arguing saying “but it costs money to cook! Kevin is making the game difficult for other people!” :story:

Kevin seems like he could be a Kiwi. He likes fucking with people and dark humor, so he'd fit right in.

Personally, I really love The Sims 1 due to how much I've played it and how many cool hacked objects have been made for it. And it has it's charm, although I'd love to see someone properly port it to 3D, like in FreeSO/Simitone. Sims 2 is also great, and it's the second game when it comes to the amount of cool hacked objects. I'd say it's on par with Sims 1 when it comes to my favorite Sims series.

Sims 3 is an absolute disaster I just can't enjoy properly. I've got all the expansions and official custom content, plus some 3rd party custom content, and the game runs like garbage, even after adding some patches to fix it. And it's also pretty glitchy, but I guess that's what you get when you want to push out a game with a fully open world without loading screens on a tight schedule, while being held by the balls by EA.

And as for Sims 4, I believe I tried a FitGirl repack of it once, and found it really bland and boring. The neighbourhood screen is such a downgrade compared to 2 and 3, they've pretty much done what was done in Sims 1. And the amount of mods available is of course even smaller. I'm scared of how crap Sims 5 will be.

And do I love modding 1 and 2. Nothing outlandish like incest or rape of course. I like adding various furniture and appliances to spice the game up, since what I like doing the most is building cool houses with cool objects for my Sim to use. And I have gathered a lot of mods. I have the most mods for Sims 1, with Sims 2 mods being the second on the list. For example, I've got those cool cars for Sims 2, which are made from ground up based on Soviet cars, and I really love how they look. I've got them from a forum that specialized in making lore-friendly Sims 2/3 items. They've had tons of good mods there, too bad that the forum has disappeared with all it's files, absolute shame. Same for CTO Sims, they've had a massive archive of obscure Sims 1 mods, and now they have disappeared from the face of the web. It's sad to see so many cool creations disappear.

There’s this. I do not know how well it works and how much support is still being put into it. I saw a similar project, perhaps this is the same one, years ago to rebuild the Sims 1 in 3D, but it was early alpha and very much incomplete. That project may have been ended because EA loves to shut down recreations of 20 year old games they don’t sell anymore.

I don't know where to put this, but I think it fits here. Looks like they're trying to make a Simcity and a Sims movie.
How do you make a movie for this type of games? They barely have a story 🤔

The only thing that I can think of with a SimCity movie is maybe based on how Will Wright thought of the game? And maybe also include the Oakland Hills Fire and the loss of his home, although that was the inspiration of how The Sims came about. And I'm not sure if that type of movie would even attract viewers at all.

The problem with that is no one ever agrees on the personalities of the default Sims, almost this whole thread is filled with different Sims sites where if you visit you’ll be struck with tons of posts arguing about Loki and Circe, arguing about the Goth family. I personally would be completely disinterested if they tried to make Bella Goth family-orientated like they did in the Sims 4, because imo, she’s a nasty money-grubber. Plenty of people disagree with me and something like that would easily mark the end of any movie preparations.

Not to mention this thread is filled with countless examples of a lack of coordination and cooperation between Maxis/EA and its mods/Maxoids. It’s kind of amazing how these games got so successful when the Sims creators were always at odds with the communities who supported them.

I just assumed sims 4 was set in an alternate universe where Bella didn't end up getting hentai'd by aliens due to being a less interesting person than her previous self, same with sims 3 but due to being ugly as fuck in that game.

IIRC, the devs did state that TS4 is an alternate universe, hence such things such as Bella not going AWOL, Dina and Nina Caliente having a different mother (Katrina), compared to their original TS2 appearance (Nighat), and the fact that Don Lothario lives with them in TS4, compared to how he had his own home in TS2.

And originally in TS3, Sunset Valley was supposed to be a prequel to TS1, but the later DLC Worlds pretty much threw that out the window, i.e. Don Lothario suddenly being "teleported" to one of those DLC Worlds.

Probably by having not enough content. And even if they do, the core game is fundamentally broken/boring
