I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Both.

She's not bright but for a media finger puppet politician she's not exceptionally stupid. Her handlers just suck.
No, she is very exceptionally stupid. At least boomer conservatives don't run on a grassroots and anti-corruption platform and turn out corrupt, they're just corrupt.

One of the reasons HFCS is pointed to as SATAN SUGAR is because there's a large disparity in obesity rates between the USA (which as you said uses HFCS almost exclusively as a sweetner because it's artificially cheap due to production subsidies) and European and East Asian countries that are similarly sedentary but use cane sugar instead.
Nope nope nope. Flawed argument.

Subsidy or not, the US would grow a shitload of corn. It's what grows best in large parts of the country because of the climate. Particularly the really crappy field corn that is grown on the second year of a three year cycle (the one that mops up the last of the available nitrates in the soil before the legume year) that really isn't good for much except low value stuff like livestock feed, making ethanol, and HCFS.

In Kansas and the Dakotas where corn doesn't grow well and wheat is too valuable to be made into those type of low value goods they grow barley instead and it pretty much serves the same purposes. Barley malt is a wonderful "real" sugar substitute that makes our favorite type of alcohol. Likewise sorghum molasses in the south in the off year with cotton. In Europe and the US the places that grow potatoes do sugar beets. This type of thing is near universal in agriculture. Cash crop year, sugar year, legume, repeat.

Then you have the more tropical climates where sugar cane is grown and the government subsidizes it. They throw all sorts of money at their local flavor of cane sugar to make ethanol and other things as well to stabilize commodity prices. But when was the last time you heard about the Brazilian obesity epidemic?

This is mainly the fault of Cenk Uygur and Kyle Kulinski for founding the Justice Democrats. The Justice Democrats are the only reason that AOC's is even in office. These two individuals have single handedly fucked American politics and made the Democratic Party way worse than it was.

U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal is “a lie to voters” and a “massive socialist” program, a fellow New York Democrat, U.S. Rep. Max Rose, asserted in a television interview.

Rose then dared Ocasio-Cortez to recruit a candidate to run a primary challenge against him, saying he would “lay out the red carpet.”

The comments from Rose, a 32-year-old U.S. Army veteran who served in Afghanistan -- earning Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service -- followed multiple questions and comparisons to the firebrand New York congresswoman, who’s facing ridicule over the Green New Deal, her plan for revising U.S. energy policies.

Rose -- who has also previously criticized another far-left freshman Democrat, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, over her remarks about Israel and Jewish lawmakers in the U.S. -- told the MetroFocus program host that while he sees climate change a pressing issue that requires a quick and bold response, Ocasio-Cortez’s plan is just not that solution.

“This is not the time for milquetoast incrementalism,” he said. “It just isn't. But with that being said, nothing about what I just said would provide a justification for a massive socialist economic policy platform. Just not needed.”

He dismissed the Green New Deal goals, such as job and housing guarantees, as economically unfeasible, saying the proponents of the deal are lying to voters.

“There's no need to lie to voters right now," he said. "We don't need the Democratic version of 'repeal and replace.'”

The Green New Deal is estimated to cost up to $93 trillion or $600,000 per household, according to studies. The radical measure proposes the transformation of the U.S. economy to cut emissions in addition to retrofitting and replacing every building in an effort to reach the goal.

But Rose went on to slam Ocasio-Cortez following a story that she’s compiling a “list” of Democrats that will face a primary challenge from progressive Democrats for siding with Republicans in the House on an amendment to notify the federal agency Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) whenever an illegal immigrant attempts to buy a firearm.

“She's going to keep a list,” Rose said, looking somewhat annoyed. “This is very simple because I'm not one to deal in subtleties. I think it's best not to be passive-aggressive. If she wants to primary me, if the Justice Democrats want to primary me, I'll lay out the red carpet. We can settle this at the polls."

— U.S. Rep. Max Rose, D-N.Y.
This isn’t the first time Rose has gone after Ocasio-Cortez. After she tweeted that the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan to combat Al Qaeda in response to the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks was “disastrous” and “wrong,” Rose spoke out.

“I believe it's long past time we end the war in Afghanistan," Rose told the New York Daily News, "but I strongly disagree with the idea that the invasion was wrong on moral or national security grounds.

“After our city and country were attacked we were very clear with the Taliban — either they give up Usama bin Laden and Al Qaeda, or we would come and get them ourselves,” he added. “They chose to protect Usama bin Laden, and they rightfully paid the price.”

Rose was equally direct in his past criticism of Omar, who asserted that some Jewish lawmakers in the U.S. may have divided loyalties regarding the U.S. and Israel.

“Certainly as a Jewish combat veteran, I could tell you I don’t have dual allegiance,” Rose said. “I have allegiance to the flag. I have allegiance to the United States of America.”

Rose was elected to Congress in 2018 after defeating an incumbent Republican in the 2018 midterm election for New York state's 11th Congressional District that includes parts of the New York City borough of Brooklyn and all of Staten Island. Ocasio-Cortez represents the 14th district, which includes parts of the Bronx and Queens.

If you don't think she's a moron you haven't been paying attention. It's not an image problem, she's sincerely an idiot. Her only image problem is that people keep getting an accurate image of what a drooling imbecile she is.
I think you simultaneously overestimate how smart the average politician is in academic terms and underestimate how smart they are in inter-personal relationship terms and base cunning.

So I was watching political YouTube videos, when I came across this amazing piece of investigative journalism.

I put off watching it for a while, then came back to it, and it intrigues me immensely.

And of course, I watched the second part two.

One of the major assertions made in the video duology is that AOC is only a puppet candidate of the Justice Democrats, and that the Justice Democrats pose a serious threat to American national sovereignty and stability via their sneaky and surreptitiously clever tactics (such as planning to put "democratic" socialists as Republicans in local elections so that Republican voters will be duped into voting for socialists, because people generally don't pay attention to the candidates of local elections), with the goal of transforming the Democrat Party, and eventually the society of America, to their own ends.

However, there does exist a video cautioning against the "alarmism" in the previous two videos, while still agreeing with their major points:

I don't think the response video is sufficient (Chunky Yogurt may be a dumbass, but not necessarily the rest of the Justice Democrats), but I still think it's an interesting watch.

So does anyone here think that the Justice Democrats pose a serious threat to American politics and/or civilization as we know it?

She's a smoke screen, we have a huge thread on this joker anyways. I don't think we really need one in DT because she's a show, a test and a media darling because she is so god damn a walking stereotype of people her age that gets hyped from the far right and left and even normies.

Ignore it and it'll go away, like any toddler throwing it's toys.

I bet you in 5 years if the news can stop pozloading my negholep with her, she will be a postal clerk manager in bum fuck iowa or something. She's a nothing a no one living on her 15 mins.

Things don't change much. And that's a good thing. But things must change even less.

Don't trust anything but don't fear anything either. Everything works itself out in the end.

AOC Derangement Syndrome is a real thing. Yeah, she says some stupid shit, but get back to me when she's actually accomplishing anything other than giving the Ben Garrisons of the world massive hateboners.

edit: this post was originally made in a thread in Deep Thoughts about her possibly being an actual threat to America. Carry on mocking her.

Th Justice Democrats are basically the Communist Worker's Party. The thing is, this is the same thing that happened to the Republicans with the Tea Party insurgency, but while the Justice Democrats of 2019 are more like the 'Animal Liberation Front' setting fire to a few fur places and freeing the minks to let them get run over in traffic, the Tea Party was fucking Vietnam. You had Republicans being primaried and destroyed to the point where the moderates in the Republican party were pretty much devastated as a wing. The survivors then went further to the right to protect themselves from primary opponents who might destroy them. You have to understand, this had millions upon millions upon millions of dollars with two of the richest donors who hired the most savvy political operators. And this was in one election. And it came out of fucking nowhere, so the RNC had no time to react to what was basically an outside revolution.

So, I think the threat of the Justice Democrats is far overblown. They don't have the billions the Koch brothers did and they've completely lost the element of surprise with AOC running her dumb fucking mouth so much that she's become a massive liability everywhere outside of LA and NYC. Same with that dumb Muslim cunt. They've both become embarrassments. The Tea Party was also a united voting front that required no cooperation from any arm of the Republican Party, which is what made them so frightening. The two current Justice Democrats have nearly no power and no voting bloc. The only people who adore them are the media, who is probably the most hated class in the United States right now.

The DNC is now ready and expecting the Justice Democrats to primary more. And if there is one thing that the DNC is really good at, its killing truly progressive candidates. To make any waves, the Justice Democrats would have required Tea-Party like coordination and money, which they simply do not have. Because they're really, really, fucking stupid and unpopular. So 1) The DNC knows of this tactic and is completely ready for it 2) The DNC will only give the two superficial support and praise so the media thinks that the Democrats love them, but the DNC will basically give them two in the back of the skull when the time comes 3) The DNC is probably already plotting against the Justice Democrats and targeting against their funding sources so they can't afford to do this on any major scale.

Of course, any move the DNC are making are really behind the scenes. They don't want to risk 2020, but they're not going to tolerate the Justice Democrats either. This is where the 'House of Cards' shit comes in.

You also have to remember, the Tea Party had astro-turfed popularity too. So there were millions spent on marketing as well as candidates. AOC has none of that and she's too fucking stupid and arrogant to do any of it. The Justice Democrats are only a problem for the Democrats, because they're pushing farther to the left when the country is moving in the opposite direction. Its going to endanger their elections on basically every level. I mean, the Democrats have the identity politics problem which they haven't been able to resolve. They exploited it way too much and are now stuck. The Justice Democrats are a symptom of that. But unless the DNC is so incompetent that they actually let this insurgency continue, then I think the Democrats are fucked for several cycles, because none of the Justice Dems hold any sort of popularity among the majority of the country.
