I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

"We are not in politics anymore. We are in racism — really we’re talking about fascistic government."
Hahahahahaha! 'We are in racism'
These bitches are so dumb. How hard will they freak when they are all simultaneously voted out when Trump is re-elected?

Even if a Republican has no chance in that district, it's going to be virtually impossible for Ayohsee to squirm her way out of a debate in this case. Which means she'll lose, extremely hard.

I fully expect her to try and weasel out, though. As arrogant as she is she clearly has some idea that she's completely and totally incapable of standing up to virtually anyone when she can't just bleat tweets out into the vastness at her leisure and ignore any potential response. We've seen just recently what happens when she actually tries, she gets decimated to the point that all her supporters can do is memory hole it, they can't even pretend she got a "YAS KWEEN!" moment in.

I'm laughing at you guys for thinking that AOC is going to make it through her primary election. She's not going to be debating anyone because she's going to be applying for jobs

This Murray woman is incredibly based. Hope she can gain some traction. That fight would be absolutely amazing.

You guys have seen the politics and demographics of the district she is in right? I hate to break this to you, but not everyone is like you.

God you're so smart. You're so smart that you think minorities vote in primary elections

Or maybe you missed that part while you were posting that steaming hot take

If you want AOC out of office, it’s going to come from Pelosi horsefucking her, not some baste black Republican. Running baste black Republicans has been a very poor strategy for the GOP in the past and it will fail here.

All you people saying dogs are hyperneedy and destroy shit aren't giving your dogs enough exercise. Just run more.
As a member of the white people, I am happy to claim dogs. Dogs only belong to whites now and are inherently right wing.

Back on topic, I really like how they chanted "send her back" at the Trump rally. We may be set for the 4 morons of the apocalypse to actually attack voters because we all know how well that works out.

If you think dogs are too needy, you're not doing enough for your dog...

That logic has a slight issue. But dogs are cool, I like other people's dog, just don't want to have to take care of one.

Hopefully Omar starts cursing out white voters.

It will be interesting. She won her last primary based on a small turnout and doing just enough to oust an incumbent who thought his seat was safe in the primary. Obviously it could be a lot different this time around if the Dems decided to fight her re-election.

In an April poll, she was still viewed relatively favorably in her own district. Congressional districts on the whole are very gerrymandered, which usually results in a homogeneous district population from a race and socioeconomic standpoint. The Dems best bet would be to find a credible Hispanic candidate who was actually from The Bronx or Queens (unlike this suburban fake), then heavily emphasize issues affecting the district and point out that Cortez has focused almost exclusively on her own pet projects and her fame.

Also, they should hang the Amazon deal around her neck like an anchor. That cost the district jobs and money. They should be able to make fun of her breathtakingly stupid quote about "spending the tax credit", but sadly the average voter is too stupid to understand why that quote is wrong. They probably think she actually did spend the tax credit on the district; this notion should be corrected.

She's beatable in a primary, but it's not a foregone conclusion. If there's not a credible Dem opposition candidate with funding behind them, they'll vote for Cortez because she's Hispanic and they recognize her name.

Someone should ask this loony bitch that if she feels the country belongs to everyone, why she was making such a big stink about supposed Russian interference in the election. Was it just the fact that they didn't cross into the country illegally first that makes it different?
Russians are white, so they're acceptable targets. Progs claim to hate bigotry but racial divide is so important to them that the temptation to be bigoted is irresistible, all they can do is direct their hatred at a target they won't be punished by the MSM for. That's all there is to it.

She'll never apply for a job because even when she's out of office and the book deal hasn't given her an advance yet she'll have a Sarkeesian-style patreon so people can pay her for being stunning and brave.

Yep. She'll just end up being the favorite pundit of left wing cable news shows until they decide to move on to a different message and if she has a tiny bit of foresight, she'll start a Patreon the second she's out of office that thirsty soyfags will fund for years.

At least if she gets kicked to the curb after one term, she won't be eligible for congressional pension. That takes 5 years of service to kick in.

Man, I wish military pensions kicked in after five years.

The politics of her district have absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the woman can't talk her way out of a wet paper bag with a slit cut in the side, which is all that my comment was talking about. Learn to read.

She won't need to apply for a job, since there's probably at least half a dozen leftist "think tanks" that will try to outbid each other for her "expertise".

All I know is these particular dark types are weak to ghost/fire types. Our President seems to be a fighting type and his VP is clearly an electric type. Ergo they cannot be racist as they don't match up on the elemental rock-paper-scissors that is Pokemon. Checkmate atheists.

Dark types beat Ghost types and fire is neutral to both, Fighting beats Dark. So check your privilege *sassy black woman snap*

i dunno what i'm doing anymore..
