I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

"Okay well you pulled troops out of Syria but you didn't do it the right way!"

Why the Hell would he listen to anyone in Congress? Most of those people have had almost two decades to do something about this and nothing ever got done. Hell they're the ones who originally approved the fucking Middle-Eastern wars to begin with. It's like when people try to criticize how he's been handling North Korea. All of these "experts" had been at this for decades and never gained an inch of ground, and then within 2 years Trump was waltzing across the DMZ.

Your advice is worthless, Congress.

This is all so tiring. There's no easy solution to any of this. Part of me just wants to sit back and watch everything burn, another part wants to help burn everything, and another part wants to try and stop things from burning.

It's that dumb tactic of never letting an opponent be right about anything, if they do then people might believe he's not wrong about everything. From a politicians standpoint it makes sense but it also shows that they don't care about what's happening. They will work against their own political goals while still claiming to represent them as long as it means that they will be more powerful. It becomes a vicious Pepsi vs. Coca-Cola war, or Sprite vs. 7-up and the losers are those that just want something to drink.

The issue is that most people in this country have a fridge full of all 4 sodas and are being told that they don't. They're selling an outright lie and expecting the masses to not remember that they said something completely different the day before.

At this point I want Trump to tweet that the Iraq War was a terrible idea.
Just so I can see the Left do a 180 and start defending OIF.
Just imagine every 30 something Millennial who spent their college years yelling No Blood For Oil pontificating about what a madman Saddam was and how Trump just can't stop coddling dictators.
You laugh but you know that is exactly what would happen.

This already happened, and while they didn't stoop so far as to suddenly become pro-war, Trump's position that the Iraq War was a huge waste of time in the 2016 primary led the media to dig up him a clip of him talking with Howard Stern ca. 2002. A clip where he said "yeah I guess, I dunno, we should've done it right the first time around" in literally the most halfhearted manner ever when Stern asked him if we should invade Iraq. Which obviously resulted in numerous op-eds about how Trump was lying as to the degree of his anti-war sentiment.

The only thing missing from cortez' sig is the smilie faces in the loops. It must be killing her not to do it.

Hm..... Really makes you think.

tricking KF users into clicking on a styxenhammer video is worse than a reaction gif

Has omar denied it was her in that clip yet?

Knowing both the overall idiocy and far-left zealotry of The Squad, if it really was Ilhan Omar in that clip, she would be openly bragging about it on Twitter. Antifa may like to talk a big game about secrecy and not snitching, but if they had a federal-level politician in their ranks, they'd probably let that politician reveal themselves to project a powerful image.

Especially if said politician is a Millennial woman of color who's at least nominally Muslim. At this point, Ilhan just has to declare herself non-binary and she'll have Intersectional Bingo.

Not as far as I know, but it leads me to think it isn't her. If it were her in there she would be denying it all over twitter.

Agreed. The fact that she's not saying anything at all makes me think it's not really her. It'd be a lot more suspicious if she acknowledged it in any way, shape, or form. But she hasn't said a thing or even publicly imply that she's even aware of the video. Not even in a "neither confirm nor deny" weasel words sort of way.
