I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Nah, trying hard enough won't be the only factor. The left is ENTRENCHED in some of these area, possibly most, and will vote straight down ballot democrat even if they outright started squawking communist propaganda.

That being said, the Republicans should still try even in those areas. It benefits every other republican for them to spout that, and being able to run on "See, this is what the house Democrats want!" could swing a lot of the more swing districts.
Haha yeah, all of them is wildly optimistic. But like you said, there's no reason to not at least make a token effort.

AOC Hit List Targets Two Dozen Democrats

----
A great opportunity is coming up for the Republican party! Conservative Democrats who would otherwise be difficult to defeat will be forced to track left in order to defend themselves against high profile ultra liberal primary challengers.

If all 24 of these seats aren't in Republican control this time next year then it's because the national GOP didn't try hard enough.

Realistically the GOP strategy should be around seats that aren't those 24, people who think they are "safe". Just try and sneak in like AOC did, take an undefended district from a sleepy incumbent.

Will they actually be undefended or will it be another Crowley situation?

I'd really like to find out what he did to piss off Pelosi so badly considering the caliber of criminal she's used to dealing with.

Crowley situation. My understanding is that what he did to Pelosi was lose an easy race to AOC by being lazy as fuck and not campaigning at all - his inabilty to even give half of a fuck about his constiuents lost him the race and lost Pelosi her Number 2 person to hand the speaker ship off to when she retires.

AOC bashes ICE, Sanders bashes Trump during Iowa rally

“We need a true Green New Deal in this country," she said. "Sen. Sanders has the largest plan in the field to address the climate crisis. I’m here because we need true immigration justice. And I’m not here to reform some of these systems when we talk about immigration, I’m here because Sen. Sanders has truly committed to breaking up ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and CBP (Customs and Border Protection)."

This conflicts heavily with Bernie's own messaging on the issue.
"What we need is comprehensive immigration reform,” he continued. "If you open the borders, my God, there's a lot of poverty in this world, and you're going to have people from all over the world. And I don't think that's something that we can do at this point. Can't do it. So that is not my position.”
However it sounds exactly like something that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez herself believes:
The left-wing congresswoman has a long record of moralistic and often-inaccurate rhetoric about immigration.
I guess it's going to be interesting seeing how Bernie reacts because I'm pretty sure he said that he wants to reform the process.

The CEO of the left-leaning Anti-Defamation League called on Democratic Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib on Sunday to apologize for circulating “blood libel” against Jewish people.

Tlaib retweeted an unverified story on Twitter Saturday alleging that “a Herd of violent #Israeli settlers” kidnapped, assaulted and threw a 7-year-old Palestinian boy into a well.

ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said Sunday that Tlaib must apologize for promoting the wild accusation. “This is an example of how the blood libel works in 2020,” Greenblatt wrote on Twitter.

“@RashidaTlaib retweets a vicious lie steeped in centuries-old accusations used to demonize Jews, then says nothing when it’s disproven,” Greenblatt added. “An apology is overdue.”

The ADL, the nation’s largest Jewish civil rights group, has previously given Tlaib a pass for her anti-Semitic ties.

One of Tlaib’s key fundraisers in 2018, a Palestinian activist who also organized campaign events for her, spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories in a Facebook group that included Tlaib.

The congresswoman in 2006 wrote an op-ed column in the Final Call, the anti-Semitic Nation of Islam’s media arm.

Both of them can get fucked.

Carthage is more comparable to the Third Reich and earlier Imperial Germany, or an Imperial Japan for it's time, rather than Saddam's Iraq or Gaddafi's Libya. There's generally major differences between the Punic Wars and the World Wars, but with the US it's more comparable to the Punic Wars. Hannibal isn't like Saddam Hussein or some unknown General in [insert middle eastern regime]. Hannibal is more comparable to a Rommel, Manstein, or Yamamoto.

If people wonder why I'm going back to Republican Rome for comparisons. AOC reminds me of the Populares ideologically, who we're essentially proto-socialists. The populares we're also insufferable pricks from what I could tell, also like Cortez.
Gracchi 2024.

Once upon a time, we gave damn dirty commies the chair for collaborating with the Soviet Union, now we give them "chairs" in the Congress so they pass legislation that will subjugate and control us while they get to live like Kings but pretend to be no different than anyone else.
Ted Kennedy was never prosecuted for trying to "reach out" to Andropov.

I thought you threw Jews down the well so your country can be free, not Palestinians? Palestinian children just get their blood used as ingredients in matzoh.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., walked back a controversial retweet spreading "blood libel" against Israel that placed blame for the death of a young Palestinian boy on the Jewish state, vowing to "strive" for higher standards when it comes to sharing information on social media, but she fell short of apologizing for the error.

On Saturday, Tlaib shared an unverified tweet claiming that a 7-year-old Palestinian boy was "kidnapped and executed" by Israeli settlers and was "assaulted and thrown in a water well." However, it was reported in The Jerusalem Post that the boy's death was an accidental drowning after the area was hit with heavy rain.

After Palestine Liberation Organization committee member Dr. Hanan Ashrawi deleted her inaccurate tweet and offered an apology on Sunday, Tlaib addressed the retweet on Tuesday.

"In this era of inaccurate and manipulative news, I will also strive to hold myself to the highest standards for what I share," Tlaib wrote, sharing Ashrawi's mea culpa. "Know that I always seek truth as we uplift the oppressed and fight for equality, justice, and freedom."

Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt condemned Tlaib for sharing the blood libel tweet.

Just when I finally think I figured out which one of the squad is the most reprehensible, another one tops it. And on and on...

They are all stupid, corrupt, miserable women who only resemble politicians because they hate america.

I just wish I could thank AOC for making it so easy. She didn't even use an alias, her name was right there on the documents.

I think it's time she started thinking about ways to change the system from the outside.

It was just fake news so no apology necessary.

Bernie's now virtue signaling about "abolishing" ICE. I'm going to laugh if that really turns out to be what the Bush administration did with the INS which was to change the name and put it under the authority of Homeland Security, so effectively nothing.

I still don't get why Democrats are so obsessed with illegals. I guess they're banking on recently naturalized citizens and legal immigrants who might eventually become citizens rewarding them for it, but they're severely underestimating how often legal immigrants do not give a fuck about line skippers.

Permanent working class to displace inner city blacks and legal Hispanics to make a permanent welfare class to be voting fodder.

Those are both more longterm goals. Immediate goals are that the illegals get counted in the census and swell electoral votes in several blue states. California is such a powerhouse in the Presidential election largely because of its gigantic illegal population, which is why they basically try to let illegals treat it like a lawless wonderland to attract even more. If illegals wind up not being counted on the census, the enthusiasm for bringing in more of them will diminish rapidly.

If it weren't for uncontrolled immigration, in both the US and the EU, it would be much harder to call the right racists.

If, God forbid, Bernie Sanders was to become president, the US would quickly become a police state. Socialists have never, ever, ever relinquished power willingly. I can think of one circumstance in which a socialist (actually a communist) said "Let's put it to the vote!" and allowed people to vote freely and that was Danny Ortega down in Nicaragua. And his ass was thrown out. Since then every tin pot dictator in the world has taken note (and make no mistake: Sanders would be the dictator people feared Trump would become). Sanders has already made ominous noises about what exactly he would do once in office and it's not just getting rid of I.C.E., either. Anyone who thinks he'd lessen the amount of federal Law Enforcement in this country isn't paying attention. Oh, he might "abolish" I.C.E. but I guaran-goddamn-tee all of those agents would find themselves folded into some kind of federal police force, either newly created or thugs like the BATF.

Watch out for this old fucker, he looks too much like the "Big Brother" in the Apple 1984 ad for comfort.

(Now take this aluminum foil and put it back in the pantry, your aunt Martha is making a roast tomorrow.)
