I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

That's it, lads. The internet is closed, everyone go home.

The projection is off the charts. AOC is one of the most divisive people in Congress and refuses to work with others on issues they agree with her on purely because of their political affiliation.
It makes a change from ”unify behind me and do everything I say”, I'll give her thar.
Well I took responsibility for my lies, Alexandria.

It turns out I wasn't actually a globetrotting secret agent but in reality a drunk idiot hollering shit on an internet message board.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is still committed to her own fiction though and it's costing real lives, not the fantasy bullshit she's concocted.
It turns out I'm also not a Finnish field marshal and am just another exceptional individual on KF.

Make whatever comparisons to AOC you want.
To be fair, using the phrase ”lynch mob” figuratively when you're talking about race relations is asking for trouble.

Apologies for double posting but I hadn't seen this thread.

For those of you who are interested in Islamic content and AOC, I saw this thread.

It's proof that the Index Librorum Prohibitorum may not have been such a bad idea after all.

AOC publicly accused a senior Senator of trying to have her killed with zero evidence. Isn't that a pretty cut and dry case for censure?
A censure? Not really.

Assuming AOC was actually at the Capitol like the media is claiming then she's just doing her normal thing. I don't even think this is the first time she's accused another lawmaker of trying to injure her.

Why would she not be there, though?

We all know what she thinks about Trump, and if my enemy was going to get publically BTFO I'd go and watch it myself.

AOC needs to learn that the voices inside her head do not exist. Plus, you still go along with everything the establishment Democrat politicians put forth, so she’s in no position to lecture anyone (even the GOP of all things) on “responsibility”.

Maybe Ayanna has mastered the art of straw man arguments, because her reaching is off the charts.

This is a case of ”everyone's wrong”.

Gingrich shouldn't use the phrase ”lynch mob” when he's talking about race relations, and Pressley shouldn't accuse Gingrich of treason for what seems to me like no reason.

He wasn’t the one that brought up race relations, Pressley was. Also, I think it’s fine to use lynch mob because it happened to almost anyone because it was based on a form of “justice” taken care of by a mob where they execute someone without a trial. Yes, depending on the era certain race and ethnic groups were targeted, but in its purest form, it’s simply a form of “justice” where a mob kills someone, many times based on exaggerated or false claims.

Wasn't Greene being attacked for making some remarks that were related to race? ”Jewish space lasers” springs to mind.
The main reason they are attacking her is because she supports Trump. They are just using claims like that to try and get rid of her. If she didn’t support him, no one would care. Also, I specifically mentioned that Newt himself didn’t bring up race in his critique of Pressley. Pressley later brought up race because she’ll purposely misrepresent issues and race bait in order to get accolades. That was my main point.

Given that people cared about Rashida ”the Holocaust gives me a calming feeling” Tlaib and she is definitely not a Trump supporter, I'm not so sure.
Yes, some do, but most don’t. That’s the thing. There is a blatant double standard. If you bring this up to other Democrats, they’ll just deflect it or pretend it never happened. Also, when she was criticized by right wingers for it, no one was pressuring her to resign or trying to pass bills to expel her. There is a difference.

A big thing to realize with leftists and democrats are very "ends justify the means" oriented. They don't give a single fuck about double standards or hypocrisy if it gets them 1% closer to their goals. Theres no real christian (or otherwise) morality system at play for leftists that many republicans subscribe to. Its why republicans cuck out a lot.
