I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

actually for a progtard and spitting in Alex Jones's face, Jimmy Dore is pretty "baste". He got more or less expelled from the Young Turks for refusing to religiously obey the party line in regards to Cenk and Ana's corporatized neoliberal outrage towards all things Trump and Russia. From what I can gather, Jimmy Dore's beliefs, background, and agenda put him much more on the organized labor end of the left than the id-pol end, so he frequently shits hard on Corporate Dems and astroturfed progressives for offering no solutions for socioeconomic inequality and instead harping on about id-pol to grab headlines and votes. And it seems like every week, he is shitting on the Dems for pushing the fake Russian narrative and the fake Syrian rebel narrative while reminding people about Smedley Butler's "War is a Racket", so he is doing a really good job of unintentionally redpilling lefties on the corporate military industrial complex and the deep state.

All things taken into account, Jimmy is actually doing great work splitting the TYT base because he thinks ideological purity in regards to economic issues will translate directly into ballot box success, so he doesn't kiss ass and shits hard on 99% of lefties and Dems for failing his purity tests, bringing up a lot of the exact same points of criticism as Tucker Carlson and other alt-right commentators but couching them in language and analysis that is more amenable to lefties.

In the lead up to the 2016 election I had written Dore off as a Catholic version of Cenk, a progressive puppet over-compensating for the extremely conservative beliefs he had as a young man. But I have to say, ever since the primary he's done a great job providing a more intellectually consistent left-wing platform and staying true to his principles in lieu of being a butthurt #Drumpf sperg. I check in with him frequently now to get a better idea of what the non-TDS wing of the Democrat party is really thinking. If people like him took control of the party it'd be a far more reasonable left-wing opposition than the idiots currently in charge.

Yeah, you'd be able to talk a whole 5 sentences and not be shouted down for being a Nazi and told to "Google it, I don't have to educate you"

Unfortunately, I don't think Jimmy and his kind will be able to win the "info war", as they are quick to be deplatformed by the big guys with the corporate money at their backs. But at least they can sow doubt and discord among the ranks, which does have some value.

During a news conference on Saturday, Democrat Cops of America member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez refused to rule out endorsing former military and CIA agents who are running for Congress alongside Ocasio-Cortez in the Democratic Party.

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2018/09/24/cort-s24.html

As the WSWS has analyzed, the Democrats are running 30 candidates who come from military-intelligence agency backgrounds. If the Democrats win control of the House, these candidates would hold the balance of power. It is not only the candidates drawn from intelligence and military backgrounds who are running on a pro-war platform. The Democratic Party as a whole has centered its opposition to Trump on the claim that he is too soft on Russia, demanding, in the words of one of the CIA Democrats, “an uncompromising victory over Russia and its tyrannical regime.”

Despite the friendly takeover of the Democratic Party by the military and intelligence agencies, most media outlets and pseudo-left groups, such as the DSA, have remained completely silent on the issue.

The politics of Ocasio-Cortez and the DSA are not in conflict with the politics of the CIA Democrats. They are, rather, complementary. In the end, there is hardly a hair’s breadth of difference between the two.

I knew she was an assembled candidate! For all her talk about progressivism and how the party platform needs to change, she constantly backs down from actually confronting the neolib wing of the party on any issue besides "not enough handouts kthnx".

Obama announces endorsement for Ocasio-Cortez

Former President Obama announced Monday he's endorsing progressive House candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D).

Obama issued his support for the former organizer for Sen. Bernie Sanders' (I-Vt.) presidential campaign in his second wave of endorsements related to the upcoming midterm elections.

Ocasio-Cortez has received widespread attention from lawmakers since her upset victory over longtime Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.) in a June primary election.

Her victory over Crowley, the fourth-ranking House Democrat, led to discussions over what type of leadership the Democratic Party should have in the future.

Obama is supporting a total of 260 Democratic candidates in his second list for U.S. Senate and U.S. House, governor and state legislature.

“The Democratic Party has always made the biggest difference in the lives of the American people when we lead with conviction, principle, and bold, new ideas. Our incredible array of candidates up and down the ticket, all across the country, make up a movement of citizens who are younger, more diverse, more female than ever before,” Obama said in a statement.

“They’re Americans who aren’t just running against something, but for something. They’re running to expand opportunity and restore the honor and compassion that should be the essence of public service. I’m proud to endorse so many of them today, and I’m eager to continue making the case for why they deserve our votes this November.”

Obama added that he focused on close races in which his support would make a "meaningful difference" this November. The official endorsements come two months after he endorsed 81 Democratic candidates in early August.

They also come as he campaigns around the country on behalf of Democratic candidates.

I also have my doubts about the "blue wave", but it's clearly all about voting against red, not voting for the blue. The DNC are garbage and nobody wants to vote for them because they're cocksucking dogshit, so you'll really have to wait for an election to gauge just how eager people are to vote the other team of cocksuckers out.
I think this sums things up pretty well. Also consider how many Democrats "threw away" a protest vote for Sanders or the green party.

well, their party has been looking for the next big thing, and she seems to be the only one this election season with anything approaching the Obamessiah-phenomenon of spontaneous popularity and corporate pliability. All the others are just "business as usual"

What in the actual fuck are you even talking about

Wait holy shit is she actually saying that denying global warming is like denying the Holocaust? :stress: Oh Godbear I'm never getting those braincells back just for thinking about it.

I think she's saying that it's not something that can be tackled by any individual person or even individual nation and is something that needs a large number of powerful nations to come together and devote a considerable amount of their productive power towards confronting.

This is gonna be the Democrat's Ted Cruz. Her district is so solidly blue that she can say anything, no matter how exceptional, and not suffer any pushback from it. She'll be a media darling despite not contributing anything besides her lockstep vote. If the Democrats arrange a shutdown of the federal government when the budget needs to be renewed again, she's going to call it a victory.
