US "The Squad" Megathread - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Talib Derangement Syndrome

I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Yeah, that seems news-worthy. Let's run with that story. Seriously, what's with the "astro-turfing" around this woman? She isn't even elected, all she did was win a primary in some district in New York. Why the Hell is the media paying so much attention to this one specific person?
She's young, sexy, fiery, and left. They want her for a poster child.

So how long until one of her immediate family members gets deported for being an illegal alien?

Double points if it was the Dem that she defeated that gets them sent back.

I do wonder what the establishment types like Pelosi and Schumer think about her in private. She toppled an establishment democrat, the guy was practically being groomed to take Pelosi's spot once Pelosi ran out of unicorn blood to drink. The spic falls under the radical alt-left wing that Waters is fanning, and they DESPISE Waters for it. She's also being praised by Sanders and make no mistake about it the establishment dislikes Bernie to a large degree as well, but they tolerate him to a degree because he's a veteran and has "tenure".

Frankly, any hand-picked successor to Pelosi is just by that alone automatically a garbage person. Anyone who takes these utter failures of "leaders" out is doing the Democrats a favor. They are cancerous losers who turn everything they touch into shit.

The media is chimping out over her for the same reason they're 24/7 chimping over Trump: anyone who isn't a soulless neoliberal party hack threatens to upset the applecart in either direction on immigration, the economy, or foreign policy which makes rich donors and the dead-eyed ghouls of the deep state fucking terrified. Both parties can say whatever they want in public, but in reality they work together to ensure that the status quo never changes.

LOL and Democraps aren't gerrymandering whores? Apart from Crowley of course taking this goblina with a grain of salt, one of the main reasons she won was because redistricting in 2012 isolated the less gentrified or first wave (i.e. hipster) areas. To wit:

Of course she wants "affordable rent" (i.e. soup hotels for beaners) to retain a voter base, because rising rents from gentrification will inevitably stop her from becoming a career politician in the district. Maybe Crazy Bernie can pick her as his running mate when if he decides to run under the Socialist ticket, and cause the Democrat Party to split.
You seem to think that I was talking about gerrymanders in a judgmental nature. I was not. I was talking about the effects it has on seat changes. The simple fact is that redistricting happened in the cycle after 2010, which was the biggest Republican wave in 15 years, and allowed them to draw districts in way more states than Democrats were. Because of that, as I said in my previous post, Republicans have fewer to no vote sink districts in those states and when electoral prospects get bad enough all of the districts become competitive at once.

why she even bothered to expound her position on foreign policy issues? If she wins, she will be first time Congressman; the Old Guard wouldn't let her occupy a seat on any foreign-relations Congressional committees

Confusingly, in that exact same interview she also referred to Israel as "occupying Palestine." I don't think that taking a stance on both sides of an issue really counts for much if you don't let the camera so much as cut away before you hop over the fence. I've also never actually heard her talk until now. Is it just me or does she literally sound like she's 10 years old?

The left continues to purge the moderate establishment dems in favor of the crazies.

Feinstein has been around forever, and she has always been a darling of the left. Not anymore. The left is tearing the DNC apart, going full batshit crazy, and they're culling all of the "impure of thought" out of their ranks.

And here's another socialist spic, Kevin de León (born Kevin Alexander Leon, but he went all De Blasio, and decided to ethnicize it up for pandering points)

He's responsible for making LA a sanctuary city, and of course he's for wide open borders, gun grabbing, taxpayer-funded green energy pipe dreams, FREE SHIT for everybody all day long, and the whole rest of the laundry list of socialist insanity.

The lunatics are being given more and more control of the DNC asylum every day, and that should go well for the left. It's a solid strategy. I approve.

The people must believe in the Blue wave and believe the party is becoming less corporate.

Lets ignore her corporate background.

So their strategy now seems to be "please vote for us illegal immigrants"

I can't see this lasting any longer than the blue wave hype over the Parkland shooting—now all the 18 year olds who COULD have been shot by some autist when they were in high school are going to vote Dem now, right? When the media has moved on to some other outrage besides the family separation and ICE normal people are going to be left wondering why the DNC fielded a bunch of socialist spics.

I do agree with her on this, we should PRIVATIZE the US Military. Have our drones sponsored by McDonalds.

so she can't decide herself whether she is in favor of socialist model. what a pussy, even spineless Bernie owned his socialist label from beginning to end

And this bitch should have to deal with only the VA, none of that cushy congressional healthcare.
