I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Though I like the symbolism of a young latina woman being elected into office, the sense I get from her is she is parroting things she has heard and is not really that smart or experienced.

Has this been posted already?

This guy has been calling her out consistently since she won her primary. Here's his latest on her tax nonsense:

Climate change is our World War II? That is so idiotic on many levels.

I don't think I've ever heard Cortez's speaking voice until that video. She sounds like a tall 12 year old.

I suspect it's either practiced or unconscious hypergamy, because she knows people automatically want to side with and support children, same as Blasey-Ford did.

It's a really common way of speaking among spoiled girls in Gen Z and millenials. They just dont age like they used to.

I've started to notice an uptick in global warming talk coming from the democrats in the last couple of weeks. Anyone else notice that? Just watched last night's Tacker Carlson, and the dem talking head against Schiultz injectd the point a couple of times. AOCs 12 years til doom, and a few one liners tossed off in the news in non sequiturs make me think that is going to be the main rhetoric other than ORANGE MAN BAD.

Which makes me think how much the millenials and Gen Zs have internalized the feminist narrative of a masculine boogey man. The guys have feminized themselves like faggots to distance themselves from anything that looks like actual masculinity, and in order to keep ahead of the game and be the more feminine ones, the women have had to become hyper feminine to distinguish themselves as the feminine/oppressed. It's an arms race. And luckily there is no equilibrium possible under something like that, so it's doomed to fail (fail into something worse or better is up in the air, I suppose).

Granted, that's not most people, but that is certainly accurate for these maniacs, IMO.

AO is a sock puppet for a focus group trying to get a socialist Latina into the white house by 2030. By then she'll be able to function most of the time without her handlers' prompts and training wheels, while actual policymakers (the ones she'll owe her higher office to) will be the ones making the puppet talk, with their arm up to the elbow in her ass. "Now for my next trick I'll drink a glass of water while 'Li'l Ayyo' lectures you all about intersectional feminism!"

I don't think she'll last past one term myself. She's utterly idiotic and has an incredibly short shelf life. Could be wrong, but I suspect after 2020, we never hear from her again.

I have tragic news everyone, after cortez was elected we believed she wouldn't have original sin privilege. Privileged people are responsible for the deaths of 6 gorillion people worldwide! I thought finally, it's time for us white guys to die this proud latina woman won't have the taint of privilege. But sadly I was wrong, for you see Cortez is in her own words privileged:
TRANSCRIPT:

OCASIO-CORTEZ: “They’re like, and we need to — you know, they say discrimination or unfair incarceration of black men, and then they pause and the crowd cheers, and it’s like, in their mind, they’re like ‘you’re welcome’ for acknowledging it. And it’s like, okay, acknowledging racism is a really big step. It’s a really big step from where we were. But you’re right, it’s nowhere near enough and the solutions are so painful. Frankly, I find it — I find the solutions for white communities to be very painful because it’s very painful for a community to understand and have go through this — like, you can be — the idea that you can be poor and benefit from the color of your skin does not compute for a lot of people. And going through that realization is very painful or even just economically for people that were born with silver spoons. It’s very painful to admit that you had advantages and it’s just — “

GRIM: “Look what happened to Brett Kavanaugh when he was confronted. He melted down in front of the whole country.”

OCASIO-CORTEZ: “Oh my God — it literally is an identity meltdown, it’s a fundamental — “

GRIM: “I worked for everything I ever had.”

OCASIO-CORTEZ: “Yeah. And, like, that is the majority of a lot of communities, how a lot of communities feel. And it’s because, if you haven’t had a transition in your life where, you know, you were maybe born poor or born without certain privileges and then especially as you transition into having certain privileges in your life, you actually see and feel and sense and taste and smell all of the differences. If you’ve never experienced different treatment in your life, you wouldn’t know what different treatment feels like or looks like. And it’s really, really hard. I mean, it’s like — and we can all, almost every single person in this country can acknowledge some privilege of some of some type, you know. I’m a cisgendered woman. I will never know the trauma of feeling like I’m not born in the right body. And that is a privilege that I have, no matter how poor my family was when I was born. But it’s really hard for some people to admit that they — you know, it’s part of this weird American Dream mythology that we have, that for a lot of — in a lot of circumstances isn’t as true or isn’t as clearly communicated as we’d like for it, or we wish it was.”

GRAY: “Yeah, I’m working on it maybe. Maybe next piece on privileged dialogues on how to make it more constructive.”

GRIM: “Look forward to that one.”

GRAY: “My mentions don’t.”

OCASIO-CORTEZ: “It’s hard. I don’t envy you.”
I don't know what to do, how will I confront my wife and her two boyfriends?? Send help.

reading another dailycaller article (https://dailycaller.com/2019/01/31/ocasio-cortez-israel-doctored/)
Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed on Monday that comments she made in July regarding the Israeli “occupation of Palestine” were doctored and circulated in the media.
“The ‘Firing Line’ [interview got] doctored and then the doctored video was the one that ended up on Fox News, and then, like, everyone just sees the doctored version instead of the actual exchange,” Ocasio-Cortez told The Intercept, referring to a July 2018 interview with Margaret Hoover.

Ocasio-Cortez faced backlash after the PBS interview aired for not being able to defend the positions she promulgates regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“I also think that what people are starting to see at least in the occupation of Palestine is just an increasing crisis of humanitarian condition,” Ocasio-Cortez said in July. “And that to me is just where I tend to come from on this issue.” (RELATED: Ocasio-Cortez Compares America’s Past To Nazi Germany, Says US Should Pay Reparations Like They Did)
Hoover followed up, questioning what the self-proclaimed socialist meant by “occupation of Palestine.”
“Oh, um, I think what I meant, is, like, the settlements that are increasing in some of these area and places where, um, difficulty and access to, um, their housing and homes,” Ocasio-Cortez answered before conceding that she is “not the expert on geopolitics” on this issue.

Days after the interview aired, conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey created a mock interview where she juxtaposed herself asking questions against Ocasio-Cortez’s answers from the Firing Line interview. (RELATED: Ocasio-Cortez Campaign Slapped With A Fine For Not Providing Workers’ Comp)
Stuckey defended the satirical interview, but Ocasio-Cortez alleged that Republicans were faking videos of her comments because they were afraid of her and “can’t deal with reality.”
Ocasio-Cortez specifically claimed her comments about Israel were doctored, as first reported by The Daily Wire. However, the Stuckey’s parody interview does not mention either Israel nor Palestine. Those comments only appear in the original “Firing Line” interview.
seems like the Israel lobby is the first one she's bowed to.

I have no doubt that AOC can keep her seat until someone with more intersectional multipliers challenges her. The question is if she will be taken seriously enough for more senior and prominent roles. Can a woke bae be a Senator or a Secretary of State?

She is on the career path of Mad Maxine. or more likely Cynthia McKinney. Her seat is safe, so she can sit in it forever provided she doesn't piss too many people off in her own party. But she has no real power beyond her ability to clown for the cameras. Congress is completely and utterly built around seniority. Right now she is the newest and the youngest person in Congress. Inside the building she is less regarded and less payed attention to then the interns. Her greatest problem will be money. She looks to have a good ability to attract lots of small donor donations ala Bernie. But none of the parties big money donors will go near her. And without attracting the whales she goes nowhere outside of her teeny tiny NYC pond. In fact she has been pigeonholed into Mad Maxy's Financial Services Committee. Which makes me think Pelosi has no plans on actually getting anything done there and is just using it as a dumping ground for troublemakers to throw bombs for the media to consume.

Embattled congressional freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., once asked a judge to show leniency toward a group of Minnesota men accused of trying to join the Islamic State terror group.

“The best deterrent to fanaticism is a system of compassion," she wrote at the time. "We must alter our attitude and approach; if we truly want to effect change, we should refocus our efforts on inclusion and rehabilitation."

The nine Minnesota men were facing decades in prison after being accused in 2015 of making plans, including buying fake passports, in an effort to travel to Syria and fight for ISIS, which was at its peak level of activity and held territory in Syria and Iraq.

Omar, who was then a Minnesota state representative, was part of a group that sent letters to Judge Michael Davis urging him to give shorter sentences, arguing that harsher penalties would only lead to more people joining the terror group.

“Incarcerating 20-year-old men for 30 or 40 years is essentially a life sentence. Society will have no expectations of the to-be 50- or 60-year-old released prisoners; it will view them with distrust and revulsion,” read Omar’s letter to the judge, as obtained by FOX 9 of Minneapolis-St. Paul.

“Such punitive measures not only lack efficacy, they inevitably create an environment in which extremism can flourish, aligning with the presupposition of terrorist recruitment,” she added.

Omar’s letter seeking more lenient sentences resurfaced on social media amid criticism over her attack on Sen. Lindsey Graham, Covington Catholic High School students, and the endorsement of socialist Venezuelan dictatorship.

One of the men in particular, Abdirahman Yasin Daud, was facing over 30 years in prison for trying to join the terrorist group. He admitted in court that he wasn’t trying to enter Syria on humanitarian grounds, but rather to participate in the activities of ISIS.

“I was not going there to pass out medical kits or food. I was going strictly to fight and kill on behalf of the Islamic State.”

“I was not going there to pass out medical kits or food. I was going strictly to fight and kill on behalf of the Islamic State,” he said.

But Omar told the judge that the best way counter extremism was with empathy rather than punishment.

“A long-term prison sentence for one who chose violence to combat direct marginalization is a statement that our justice system misunderstands the guilty. A restorative approach to justice assesses the lure of criminality and addresses it.”

According to media reports, almost all the men on trial received lengthy sentences, with Daud serving 30 years in prison after he was found guilty of trying to provide material support to ISIS and conspiring to commit murder overseas.

I figured upon her election Omar would be an American version of the typical European Muslim public figure pushing insanely lax laws on terrorists and generally giving off the vibe of engaging in constant Taqiyya and it's depressing my inner cynic is being proven completely correct.

Too bad MSM has already exceeded its weekly quota of Democrat politician gaffes with that KKK/blackface governor in Virginia, otherwise this story might actually have got a little exposure.
