I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Agreed. There are a few that can claim native status, but they’re already US citizens and live in Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, etc. She’s just plain nuts to say Mexican/Central American = Native American. It’s about as exceptional as Elizabeth Warren claiming to be Native American.
On top of that there are certain tribes that have their own passports such as in the northeast because they were on both sides of the border such as the Mohawk and Iroquois who had to go through some sort of process to establish such an arrangement with the US and Canada. That aside if we give them what they want then what about the Inuit? Won't someone think of the poor Inuit who'll never get to leave their frozen waste to once again step foot on the lands of their ancestors in Miami and the San Fernando valley? Fuck those billhook having five foot tall diabetic hobbits from the south I say rights for Eskimos first!

That sounds like something an AOC supporter would say to derail the thread.

How? What will they do? Post dumb, easily refutable "facts" and tell people the only reason we don't like her is because she's attractive*, smart, and mexican?

*I rate her at a 4/10, would not bang.

they'll employ grade-a chapo spam until null bans their accounts and doxes their emails

But people from Mexico and South Ameria are mixed with the native indians of the americaa, making them native americans.
Native Americans aren't a unified group no matter how some people like to pretend they are. Peruvians have fuck all to do with the Cherokee.

Only someone with no knowledge of Indian culture would suggest they're basically just South Americans.

Ocasio-Cortez forced to clarify Green New Deal details after rollout

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and her aides are rushing to clarify details of her recently proposed Green New Deal (GND) after an FAQ sheet it released sparked an uproar.

Ocasio-Cortez's office sent a copy of the resolution this week as well as an embargoed FAQ sheet about the initiative to various media outlets, including The Hill. NPR published the FAQ sheet, which included provisions about eliminating air travel, guesswork surrounding cows' flatulence and economic security for those who are "unable or unwilling to work."

The document swiftly drew the ire of conservatives who said some of the policies in the FAQ document showed the GND was not a serious proposal.

"There are multiple doctored GND resolutions and FAQs floating around. There was also a draft version that got uploaded + taken down. There's also draft versions floating out there," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Saturday, attaching the proposal she introduced in the House.

"When I talk about the GND, this is what I'm referring to - nothing else," she added in another tweet, again linking to the legislation.

The confusion first ballooned Friday evening when Robert Hockett, a Cornell law professor advising Ocasio-Cortez on the Green New Deal, went on Tucker Carlson's Fox News show. When Carlson questioned some of the claims in the FAQ sheet put out by Ocasio-Cortez's office, Hockett said the document he was citing was "erroneous" and "doctored."

"So as best I can tell it appears that Tucker and I were referring to separate documents last night, as apparently there were many! The one that I know I and the Congresswoman were aware of was a hoax, about which the Congresswoman had tweeted. The one Tucker was referring to was apparently something else," Hockett said in a statement to The Hill.

"Since most of us who are involved in this wonderful new Green New Deal initiative were all over the news media yesterday excitedly discussing the big rollout of the day before, it was pretty much impossible for all of us to know about all of the same documents at the same time, so we did the best we could to address the ones we knew about when we could," he added.

"I'm very much hoping, in any event, that we might all turn to discussing the actual content of the actual Resolution onto which so many in Congress have signed very soon."

Ocasio-Cortez's office said that while doctored FAQ documents are circulating on the internet, the one it released was an unfinished draft that it had not intended to publish.

"There separately IS a doctored FAQ floating around. And an early draft of a FAQ that was clearly unfinished and that doesn't represent the GND resolution got published to the website by mistake (idea was to wait for launch, monitor q's, and rewrite that FAQ before publishing)," Ocasio-Cortez's chief of staff Saikat Chakrabati said.

"Mistakes happen when doing time launches like this coordinating multiple groups and collaborators. It's hard to have both a transparent and open process with many stakeholders while keeping all info locked down. But what's in the resolution is the GND."

Ocasio-Cortez's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.

@Stoneheart I can't believe she thinks anyone is stupid enough to believe this. Oh wait, she actually has supporters and that's frightening.

Yeah you'll know they're here when the comments are full of "um honey do your research, " who hurt you," and "incel."

I call AOC's twitter supporters 'The Cheka' since like the early Soviet military police they show up in droves out of nowhere and start hurling threats at you if you dare disagree with anything AOC says or her policies.

I'm almost sure that her campaign office or a group supporting her like the DSA have a team of people paid to sit around on twitter 24/7 to search, smear, and stomp out any criticism against her. Kind of like the 'Correct The Record' and 'Act Blue' group that did the same for Hillary in 2016

Without powerleveling, I can almost guarantee you that isn't the case. There's a huge disaparity in resources between what is available to a candidate in a contentious presidential race and those available to a freshman representative that's not in a noteworthy district.

You dont need any resources if you have an army of freshly fired twitter junkies with connection to the bottom of the media on your side.

I think the end or AOC will be the end of the alt-left media, she will go against the interest of the jews and they will burn them down.
It will be a sad day when we lose TYT because the MSM came to the sudden realisation that they are antisemites.
Many farmers will lsoe their jobs over this.

There is no love lost between many tribes within the US. Especially between the Plains Tribes and the ones transplanted from the coast. The Cherokee and Osage had a hell of a little war when the Cherokee moved west of the Arkansas River. It was kicked off by the Cherokee committing one of the largest single day massacres of Native Americans ever. The only people in the village were women, children, and the elderly. The Osage retaliated and the two groups fought for 20 years. Fort Smith was built specifically to curb the fighting. It didn't stop until the Osage were forcibly relocated to Kansas.

The blue wave is coming, you'd have to be deliberately burying your head in the sand to not see it at this point. We'll just have to see how much of a wave it ends up being. And this lady too will be elected, no matter how out of step with mainstream politics she is, due to the political makeup of her district. Its more Democratic than Alabama is Republican, and they very nearly voted in a known child molester.

Thats all just part and parcel of the way America's districts are made up. Since cities are almost always overwhelmingly Democratic, their congressional districts are too, while Republican districts will almost always be 30 to 40 percent Democratic. Most of the country being under Republican gerrymanders only exacerbates that fact. And beyond that, since so many of those districts are gerrymandered, when things get bad enough for Republicans in that particular state their districts will all start becoming vulnerable at once, while Democrats would always have a core base of surviving urban seats that would vote for Satan if he had a D next to his name.
Which one of you retards just voted disagree on this when it literally came true three months after I posted it.
