I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

I'll address both these posts, but I forgot a very important, salient point. Cortez isn't a Democrat. Not really. She's a Democratic Socialist. IE: A literal communist. Bernie Sanders isn't even a Democratic Socialist. Its not really a caucus like the Tea Party was and its this weird, 3rd party amalgam that runs under the Democratic banner. Democrats are a different shade of Republican, with just different cocks of rich people down their throats. Its only surface level shit. Democrats are the ones who look like they're throwing you the bone. The Republicans just keep the bone. That's why I find conservatives more honest. They're straight up about wanting to smash a boot in your face forever, while the Democrats say it'll only be about 10-20 years that boot will be mashing your face, when its really forever. Only AOC buys the bullshit they're selling.

AOC is a true believer no fucking WAY will she get a stern talking to and listen to it. That bitch knows she's popular and she's going to wield it like a sledgehammer. They're either going to have to cut her throat or make her so insignificant once the popularity and shine wears off she will want to kill herself. There's not enough Democratic Socialists or Progressives to protect her, there's no caucus like the Tea Party. The media will follow the DNC.



AOC is not smart. She's a communist. Also, she's got no political experience and just happened to live in just the right district under just the right circumstances. I highly doubt she knows the minutiae of local politics or would even be interested. Also, the progressive wing of the Democratic party is like, what, fucking 4 people? Nowhere near enough to protect her. Now that Warren is running, don't count on her protection either. So that's like what, 3 bodies to raise a stink? (Also don't be fooled by Democrats who have adopted identity politics. Democrats do this shit ALL the time. As soon as it falls out of fashion they'll drop it like its hot. The true believer progressive wing of the Democratic party is actually very small, thanks to the DNC).

The problem with primarying her is that she's got too much pull from re.tards on the national level. She could get a lot of funding and while she'd more than likely lose, its an expensive proposition and the DNC are cheap cocksuckers as is. The DNC really only parades her around like a whore so she can suck money out of people, whether AOC knows it or not. They're highly unlikely to run a campaign to out her. And what fucking Democrat would want to be the one to do it? That's like killing your career.

Gerrymandering would force her to actually run a real campaign and not an insurgency. It would also allow the Democrat being challenged an out by saying they have 'no choice' to run in the matter. Gerrymandering basically saves the Democrats face, money and removes the risk of someone asking to run against her from her district when she's this popular. They can tear her district apart by a political establishment not happy a fucking communist cucked them, make the Dem running against her shrug their shoulders and force her to run or concede the seat. Gerrymandering is the best way to do it if they wanted, and the least painful. Believe me, if 2020 turns bad they will have no problems using her as a scapegoat after they've whored her out for money. They might not. But for me, its just hard to imagine them wanting to keep her.

I mean, if the DNC wants to keep losing and have a seat that doesn't do shit for 20 years they could confine her to committees where unpopular people go to die. But I just don't imagine they will keep her around. The political compass of the country is changing, even if it doesn't like Trump, it is shifting much faster and farther away from what AOC believes and that is far too much of a liability to ignore, especially when AOC's words have national consequences.

I agree with you about the dems vs republicans however there are a few differences that are at the core. Democrats are for nanny state no matter what decade they're in. It's not out of altruism but for control. They were gleeful thinking there would always be a democrat majority which means they could pass whatever they wanted.

Gun control to where you had to register everything and the last steps before total ban were only having single shot rifles that had to be kept at a range that you had to log in and out and too many times would get you a visit from the local PD to ensure you're not training for some shooting, right? Oh they were for that.

I'm not saying the Republicans are any better since their methods of control tend to be religious based but there some big differences on what each side envisions for taking over the country and having a one-party system.

Anyway, Cortez represents an interesting problem for the DNC. Even if she isn't popular in her own district, she has a large national following among young progressive types. She could get a wave of grassroots fundraising, taking money out of the hands out of Dems in other areas and making her difficult to unseat via primary.

Also, regarding drawing her district out of existence, that has two things working against it: 1) Redistricting is done by an "independent" (I'm skeptical) committee of non-politicians, so it is harder to influence the gerrymandering directly and 2) if she remains a high profile name among unrealistic progressives, she may just unseat someone else in the re-drawn districts.

She could be a real headache for the DNC and moderate Dems, which is funny to watch but not good news for people hoping the party unfucks itself.

EDIT: just to be clear, I think she's aggressively stupid and unrealistic, and that most of her media attention is garnered from being a pair of tits that spews ready-made clickbait. But being a moron hasn't stopped plenty of others from multiple terms in Congress. Looking at you Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee, Michele Bachmann, and probably a laundry list of others I'm too lazy to type up.

Jackson has said some incredibly retarded shit. Her vietnam quote is hilarious. But then again, she's a Houston nigger that most people ignore. She holds no actual sway in the party. Most of the niggers in congress are token ones that the Dems use to show evil republicans are. The less we hear the niggers talking, the better.

Problem is, she garners attention becuase she's young, reasonably attractive and is saying shit that young people think are great ideas not realizing how much it'll cost and how unfeasible it is. If her ideas were possible either economically and/or scientifically, someone would have done it.

One thing the US religious right has going for them is that I don't remember them ever drawing up a proposal to purposefully destroy the entire U.S. economy and livelihood of everyone as the solution to a problem, unless there's some Amish extremist sect out there trying to get into Congress.

Indeed, most of the religious right these days is essentially "Keep it in private, we don't wanna hear about it in public" despite the calls to condemn gays and what not. The Religious Right is also nowhere near as powerful as they were back in the 80's and 90's.

I'd rather deal with religious right wingers than the looney left. You know what they are after and their limits. The left....well they don't have any. Despite bullshit like Handmaid's Tale and other retarded crap, the bible thumpers don't want to instill a Taliban government.

They're not. Hispanic is a cultural descriptor. Some of them qualify as native Americans and some of them do not. Some have native blood, some have pure European or African slave blood.

Those are an extreme minority, the majority of Hispanics are of half blooded native americans or full blooded native (some don't even speak spanish, but their own native language).
Many of them still follow their ancient injun traditions, such as tamales, atole, tacos, pupuzas and brutally murdering their enemies. hispanics are more in touch with their native culture than Americans are.
 
The ones with more native admixture than non-native still have no claim of any kind to north America. Their ancestors were entirely different people.

Earlier Sunday, Omar responded to a question about who she "thinks is paying American politicians to be pro-Israel" by saying "AIPAC!" The tweet was referencing the major pro-Israel lobbying group.

She also retweeted journalist Glenn Greenwald responding to a story about Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) promising "action" toward the Minnesota lawmaker and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) over their alleged anti-Semitism. She captioned that retweet with a message: "It's all about the Benjamins baby," referring to money.

Omar's office initially responded to The Hill's request for comment about the "Benjamins" tweet by referring to her AIPAC tweet. When asked about Rose's statement, Omar’s office directed The Hill to a response from the member of Congress to Chelsea Clinton.

The American Jewish Committee, a major Jewish advocacy organization, also blasted Omar's statements, calling them "stunningly anti-Semitic."

Omar, as a well as Tlaib, have previously been criticized for their support of the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement, which condemns Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. Both maintain that the movement is not anti-Semitic.
