I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Distributors tend to be inner city blacks.

Growers, especially the legal ones, tend to be those dang dirty land owning people away from like Starbucks and Free Wifi and shit covered streets.

Basically they only become convenient when you can rant about them like a loon because they chose to get into the business as an early adopter.

It's not like you couldn't buy a smallholding or some shit and begin growing your own smoke or something.

Heck, isn't Detroit like a literal wasteland where houses could be pulled down and the land sold off dirt cheap for inner city farms?

You want to demolish Detroit and build a bunch of weed farms? Let's do it.

Sure, you can get cheap land, but unless they let people replace abandoned buildings with weed fields out in the open the growlights are going to be thirsty for electricity. And the water bill ain't gonna be small either.

It amazes me that despite the fact millions of people will parrot ol' bug eyes here, not one of them will invest in a brother's weed store. Even if some black guy started a go fund me called "Help this nigga go legit" not one of these people would give him a dime.

both the right and the left are talking incessantly about her.
she's doing everything exactly correct.

I think she's just clueless, a garden variety airhead and there is no master plan. In a couple of years she probably washes out of congress and gets a reality show or something, it's not like reality tv would be that different from what she's doing now.

Where in the world is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
And it’s unclear whether the 29-year-old lawmaker, who represents the Bronx and Queens, actually still lives in the Parkchester neighborhood that has been so closely tied to her rise — even though she won her upset victory over fellow Democrat Rep. Joe Crowley with accusations that his home in Virginia made him too Washington-focused to serve his district.

Ocasio-Cortez has used her deceased father’s Bronx condo on her voter registration since 2012, and even posed in the one-bedroom Bronx flat for celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz in a Vogue magazine profile after her stunning November election. But The Post could find little indication she continues to live there.

...

Her apartment’s next-door neighbor said she had never seen Ocasio-Cortez. Another neighbor, who has lived down the hall from the congresswoman’s apartment for the last 40 years, said he’d never seen her or her boyfriend, Riley Roberts, who has claimed the address as his own since last spring.

“I would have remembered,” said the neighbor when shown a photograph of Ocasio-Cortez.

Workers at Jerry’s Pizzeria, less than a block from her building, and at the local grocery store said she had never patronized their businesses — and a server at a nearby taqueria said the congresswoman had only come in to be filmed by news crews.

A postal worker who delivers mail to the building said that in the last 10 years he has only seen Ocasio-Cortez intermittently and that several months’ worth of mail regularly accumulates in the mailbox before anyone bothers to collect it. The worker said that Ocasio-Cortez and Roberts were the only ones getting mail at the address.

Good article. She registered her address to her father's property in 2012 which would be about the right time that the progressives would have started grooming her for running in 2016, I think. I thought she set up district offices that were basically giving out free legal aide? Isn't that why she has so many staffers and was begging for more money to get new computers?

She didn’t need computers for staffers, because she hadn’t hired any yet, and she didn’t have a district office to put them in even if she had. Some would say she lied, but she’s more worried about being morally pure, rather than semantically and factually accurate.

She hasn’t managed to open any district office yet. She tried to take over Crowley’s(the guy she cucked) old office, but the landlord tried to double the rent, but she showed him, and she went and rented an even more expensive office in Queens, but that’s not open yet, they’re still renovating.

I’ll bet she locked in at a crazy rent because of the jacked up prices in anticipation of the Amazon deal. She should’ve waited until after she cucked the Amazon deal, probably could’ve gotten a much better deal.

Her district offices may not be open yet, but she moved into that fancy luxury apartment in DC already.

Priorities.

Can we all agree that if she wasn't in legitimate politics there's a good chance she would have eventually had a thread here?

She was failing in the business world with her shitty publishing startup so either she would have gone full mensch or full macintosh to get cow status outside of politics. i don't think she's intelligent enough to have garnered any attention in the business world even as a cow, startups are full of dumb cows so she wouldn't even stand out.
