I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

And one reply to that toon that was worth to archive.
This is what's so weird about AOC and like-minded political pinheads: at the same time that they are telling people that they need to stop having children for the sake of saving the climate, they also want to relax immigration laws so that more individuals from third world countries with high birth rates can migrate to the United States/Canada and Europe. Sometimes they even go as far as claiming that "we need immigrants in order to boost the fertility rate". How does that work?

I think some of them honestly believe that the same Toyota Corolla driven by a white man suddenly produces less pollution when driven by a brown man.

They follow satan, Father of Lies and Author of Confusion.

God I wish I could find an appropriate gif explaining this but do you remember the episode of The Simpsons where Krusty gets into congress and he's trying to be taken seriously? Then some seasoned politician puts the clown in his place saying something like, "freshman congressmen don't get to pass shit. You've gotta pee in a bucket until your third term."

I really wish congress actually worked like that sometimes.

Unfortunately the other side of that is that it's so taken for granted that once you get in you're there for decades if not for life that you have to be in office for longer than a lot of people own the same car before you're even considered an actual congressperson. There needs to be some kind of balance of "Maybe get some experience before you try to change the entire country" and "Maybe don't come in as a thirty-something and leave when the medics finally lift your skeletonized corpse out of your seat."

why are people so mad at a politician with no power

Why do people think anybody is mad at her? That’s a dumbass leftist-media lie. She’s a buffoon, a laughingstock. Nobody is scared of her, and nobody is angry with her.

With the exception of Nancy Pelosi, because having a loud and obnoxious sped in the ranks is bad for the party.

"I reject your reality, and substitute my own!"

Instead of a virus that makes people infertile, couldn't you just use whatever chemical's turning the frogs gay to stop overpopulation?

You described China's more likely future IMO; despite their usual social engineering controls, demand for homosexuality acceptance has skyrocketed. Similar to Japan, Korea and Taiwan, international efforts to "open minds" have never worked particularly well and social evolution for accepting the gays has pretty much always been a native effort, even if they're getting nominal support from overseas groups. The extreme gender imbalance combined with chinese women's tendencies to prefer older, wealthier men is creating a cohort of young male homosexuals that is going to be unlike anything we've seen in other nations.

I don't mean that lack of options turns everyone gay but lack of available female sexual partners is a known recipe to "straight" guys fucking other guys and if females remain completely inaccessible you'll get a nice mess of NEETs, violent thugs, and faggots. China is going to end up with more gays than SF unless the government tries to start suppressing the lifestyle violently.

lol 68 pages of "not mad"

Allison Rapp had a thread that went into the thousands of pages. We musta been downright incandescent with rage at her, huh? Her Dorito toots really made our blood boil, right?

No, stop your nonsense. Anger is not the fuel that powers the Farms, and we even have a rating here which mocks people who are genuinely mad on the internet.

She has a foot in the door. A sane person doesn't occupy her seat.

Given enough time (we're measuring time in congressional terms) and enough bribery and flattery from all the wrong special interest groups she could be Baraka* Obama the second.

*Not a typo. Is a MKII reference.

It's not the page count that reveals the mad, it's the post content.

Supposedly the South Africans and their Israeli buddies looked into creating race-specific diseases and came to the conclusion that it would be very difficult to create and implement.

Edit: That was in the 80's though, and tech has moved very far since then.
Not far enough to make that work. I won't say it's impossible but I can't think of a way to make such minor genetic differences useful in terms of targeting a virus.

I don't think "rightly annoyed by someone whose IQ is rivaled only by her shoe size" necessarily qualifies as "mad", bro. But then again, you probably think a lot of people are mad at you, too.

I think there's some of that going on, and some laughing, but some genuine mad too.

LMAO, more songs from AOC's white male fans & haters:

"Jerry Rosenblum, age 96 1/2, sings a song honoring soon-to-be Congress member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, age 28 1/2"

And here is a song from a dad who's a huge Green Deal fan:

And here is a country song by a white male who doesn't like AOC:

and another:

And this song is just incomprehensible:

Damn, all these strumming white guys, I want a fucking Mariachi band to do a song about AOC.
Positive or negative, just no more white guys with guitars please.
