I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

The reason that I hate seeing people bitch about the AIPAC is because they "spend so much money on lobbying the U.S.!" and yet no one seems to get pissed off at South Korea for spending more than Israel, or Japan for spending nearly as much, or any other country on this list for dumping enormous amounts of money into U.S. lobbying. As soon as I see someone yelling about how much they hate the government of Ireland for spending truckloads of money in U.S. lobbying then maybe I'll believe they're on the up-and-up, until then I'm just going to assume that they dislike Jews because someone else told them to.

I mean for fuck's sake the Government of Bermuda and the Marshall Islands spend more/almost as much as Israel and most people probably have no fucking idea what those places even are.
Are there state laws in place that penalize public employees for practicing their right to boycott South Korea? Does questioning Bermuda having influence over politicians gets you fired and blacklisted? No, of course not!

But even just asking questions about the pro-israel lobby is enough to be labeled a problematic anti-semite in current year.

"Tropes"

I hate this woman. Also, bitch, it has nothing to do with whether latino immigrants are more dangerous or not, it has to do with the fact that they're illegal, something you conveniently left out of your tweet.

If it's the bill I'm thinking of she's really misrepresenting things. It was a gun control bill with an amendment that said that if it is discovered during the proposed background checks that a non-us citizen is trying to buy guns then it should be reported to ICE or something like that. She's pro gun control but also wants illegal aliens to have an easy path to gun ownership. That woman is a moron.

Holy shit, Cortez and her staff could actually face jail time over a campaign slush fund.
Serves the bitch right for being nasty to everyone who disagrees with her (in typical leftist fashion) and threatening them with a nonexistent "list".

I mean, to be fair, she was a problematic anti-semite long before those questions.

But yeah, I view this as a broken clock type situation. All around. She's the broken clock right about AIPAC's influence, but only because she hates anything to do with the jews, the dems are the broken clock right about her anti-semitism, but only because she 's threatening their lobby bux.

"I found mean words that a Deplorable wrote above a toilet but I can't show you the mean words because they don't deserve the credit for their toilet words!"

... I don't... Okay? Take your meds, I guess?

Genuine question - has anyone here seen (or even felt) true hatred toward AOC? All I've really seen is pure mockery - idiots like Riley Dennis thought that sharing the videos of AOC dancing was pure Republican terror and offense, rather than people just laughing at her, for example. Pretty much all "hate" I've seen directed at her was just laughter tbh, there's not a trace of the "fear" she imagines.

I guess I do kind of hate her, yes, inasmuch as people are propping her up and kissing her know-nothing ass. She's only presented a bunch of dangerous, half-baked, and incongruous ideas--many of which aren't even good on paper--and she's so disgustingly smug.

Also, she mixed up ringworm and hookworm yet claims to be a "science nerd." OK.

This smells like a load of free AOC dolls.

The idea that conservatives are afraid of her is pure fantasy fiction. If they feared her, they wouldn't have pushed to have her Green New Deal put up for a vote. She's literally the lolcow of Congress.

Edit: Sorry for the double post. Meant to edit my previous post.

Speaking for myself, I don't hate her in any way. Like if a chubby 5'6" transfer student at your high school said he could dunk a basketball and when proving it he jumped 10 inches into the air and failed spectacularly but played it off as a victory somehow. You don't hate that guy for being bad at basketball and it's the same with AOC, the guy won't steal LeBron's thunder and AOC won't do shit, but it's entertaining to see them both trying to get above the rim and failing that they're coming up with wild excuses for why they couldn't slam-dunk that basketball.

I have noticed that she seems to be constantly switching between the terms "latino" and "latinx". Is there a reason for this, or is it just the woke mask that slips from time to time?

She's an actual Latina so I have to assume she gags when she forces herself to put up anything with the word "latinx" in it.

Yeah but dancing is a stupid thing to mock and made everyone being harsh on her look unprofessional and old. Like there's a lot to criticize her oln like all politicians but there's this weird a-loggy thing republicans have with her specifically that reminds me of TDS and Obama Derangement.

Only the most autistic far-right sites were actually making fun of the dancing thing or taking pictures of her. Actual conservatives started mocking her when she came out with the first details of the Green New Deal. And that's something that deserves commenting on.

Absolutely no one mocked the dancins video. An obvious dummy twitter that was no more than 36 hours old, because the account was created "January 2019" and the video was posted on January 3rd, 2019, posted the dancing video, at about 1 AM Eastern time. Eight hours later, 9 AM, the same day, there was an article in the New York Times ridiculing the "conservative backlash" to the dancing video.

There was no conservative backlash to the dancing video. No one was ever able to produce a single tweet from a verified twitter account of a conservative journalist or politician attempting to denounce Cortez for the dancing video. No one even found a conservative blog attempting to ridicule Cortez over the video. None of that ever happened.

Dozens of liberal websites ridiculed a backlash that never existed. They lied to you and told you the backlash existed, and you believed them.

The video was probably posted to twitter by the same people that wrote the New York Times article about the fictional massive backlash that fictionally went viral, among conservatives, between the hours of 1 AM and 9 AM.

Hell, I posted the dancing video here back in mid-December. There was no sperging mockery or pearl-clutching over it:

And even if there had been, it doesn't negate all the other dumbass, untenable shit that this woman spews. She's a joke, but since she's emblematic of the new r3tarded woke generation, we can't entirely ignore her unless we want to be blindsided in 2032 by President Ocasio-Cortez, just as clueless libs were by Trump in 2016.

Why the hell would anybody get angry at her over dancing? She's got a ton of other more real things to criticize her over, like literally everything she says when she talks about politics or economics.
