I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Absolutely no one mocked the dancins video. An obvious dummy twitter that was no more than 36 hours old, because the account was created "January 2019" and the video was posted on January 3rd, 2019, posted the dancing video, at about 1 AM Eastern time. Eight hours later, 9 AM, the same day, there was an article in the New York Times ridiculing the "conservative backlash" to the dancing video.

There was no conservative backlash to the dancing video. No one was ever able to produce a single tweet from a verified twitter account of a conservative journalist or politician attempting to denounce Cortez for the dancing video. No one even found a conservative blog attempting to ridicule Cortez over the video. None of that ever happened.

Dozens of liberal websites ridiculed a backlash that never existed. They lied to you and told you the backlash existed, and you believed them.

The video was probably posted to twitter by the same people that wrote the New York Times article about the fictional massive backlash that fictionally went viral, among conservatives, between the hours of 1 AM and 9 AM.
This is why I take every goddamn headline with a grain of salt, even if it's something you agree with. People need to realize media isn't trying to inform you, but to completely bias you. It's amazing watching people believe something is instantly true, even after being lied to so many other times.

Well AOC lovers like Darkmage can't make any good points about AOC if they're not allowed to argue against strawman positions. I mean... how do you defend suggesting spending more money than exists? You don't, you scream about footloose style ultra religious conservatives getting mad about her dancing like the devil is in her feet.

Neat. Why is that the Jews' fault? I mean I already have my answer because we already know that James Clyburn is a big fan of Louis Farrakhan, and refuses to call him out for his anti-Jew bullshit, but still. Holy shit what a fucking stupid hot take.

Wait - So it's cool to be racist if you have something traumatic happen to you? If so, a ton of white dudes are going to be able to call dudes niggers nonstop over in the north east.
Don't forget that Omar's been living in the U.S. since fucking 1995 so it's not like she's some off-the-boat Somali refugee who literally just arrived an hour ago. She's been living in the U.S. for 24 years now and she's 37 years old. She was 13 when she and her family left Kenya and nine when they'd left Somalia, so it's a bit of a fucking reach to try and blame all of this on her past at this point.

She got hit with another ethics complaint: http://archive.li/Ls94P

A Washington, D.C.-based ethics group is claiming that New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s social media usage violates House ethics rules against using taxpayer resources for political purposes.
Ocasio-Cortez’s political Instagram account contains direct links to her House Instagram account and includes a link for political contributions, alongside posts of official video footage on the House floor, according to a complaint Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) plans to file Thursday with the Office of Congressional Ethics. The group claims these actions violate House ethics rules.
“In a way, it’s a straight forward complaint,” Kendra Arnold, executive director of FACT, told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “Broadly speaking, the rules clearly define that politics and government works cannot overlap. There are reasons for that: mostly because we don’t want our taxpayer dollars going toward campaigns.” FACT is a nonprofit group whose past president was Matthew Whitaker, an attorney who served as President Donald Trump’s acting attorney general in 2018 and 2019.
“One is influencing the other,” Arnold said, referring to what she believes is the New York Democrat’s penchant for using Twitter as a form of cross promotion. “Once we elect … you cannot use whatever the government provides you for political purposes. Part of the issue is one violation stacked on another.”
House ethics rules forbid lawmakers from using resources like House video for political purposes, the complaint notes. House ethics rules prohibit a member from posting a link to her official social media site on a campaign social media site. She solicited donations on the page that used official House video footage, according to FACT. This is not the first ethical complaint Ocasio-Cortez has had this week.
She denied violating campaign finance laws Tuesday in response to a Federal Election Commission (FEC) complaint alleging she and her chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, created a million-dollar private slush fund. The National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC), a conservative watchdog, accused Ocasio-Cortez and Chakrabarti of illegally funneling money between PACs and private companies.
Ocasio-Cortez and her chief of staff obtained control of Justice Democrats PAC in December 2017, and the two appear to retain their control of the group, TheDCNF’s Andrew Kerr reported Monday. If the FEC determines her campaign operated in affiliation with the political action committee, then such a caper would open them up to some serious legal problems. Ocasio-Cortez never disclosed to the FEC that she and Chakrabarti, who served as her campaign chair, controlled the PAC.
Ocasio-Cortez’s office has not yet responded to TheDCNF’s request for comment about the nature of FACT’s claims.

EDIT: I fucking hate formatting quoting articles.

I am going to laugh so fucking hard if the millennial version of Sarah Palin gets hit with enough ethics violations to torpedo her reelection chances in 2020.

On the one hand, we lost a useful lolcow in doing so, on the other, the salt/rationalizations from her fanbase will be incredibly entertaining.

Pretty much all "hate" I've seen directed at her was just laughter tbh, there's not a trace of the "fear" she imagines.

You forget the primary rule in the Age of Phobias: If you don't actively celebrate and defend on all points a person or thing that has been declared Normalnaturalhealthy or otherwise Virtuous, you are a hater whose hatred can only born of irrational, crippling fear. And you are a bad person, because We Said So.

Cortez is a Democrat only out of convenience, she would not be where she is right now if she was a third party independent. She's one of the boys right now, only because she wears their colors, but otherwise she is not one of them and I think the real Dems like Pelosi are now figuring it out. She's not Bernie, she's not going to be a good little soldier at the end of the day that will kiss the ring of power and play the game.

She has no allegiance to the party or the masters of said party.

AOC has this thread because her “don’t make fun of me, I’m in charge! I’m sending the cyber police to cut yer internet down!” antics is exactly how Chris would act if he was in office.

Even the sad and petty boomercons I know treat her as the butt of the joke. She’s like the kid in school promises soda for drinking fountains instead of water and to ban all detention. The Democrats deserve this humiliation because they didn’t stop it before it was too late.

Another horrifying thing is that there were dozens of retarded millennial woke queens running for senior positions in the last few months. AOC is a retard but she’s the canary in the coal mine for how Generation Y, women especially, plans on running things.

It sucks that AIPAC cut you off. Maybe I can be your donor tonight.

I like how AOC went off on the massive amounts of shady money funding campaigns, like AIPAC, and then it's revealed she has her own secret shady PAC to try to force far-leftists in over moderates, and has threatened fucking with elections to get moderates who don't vote her way kicked out and replaced.

Really, REALLY makes you think.

Her threats to get rid of moderate democrats is the only thing I like about her, TBH. I think it's retarded for putting a target on her back from the DNC but it's the only behavior I've seen from her that is actually consistent with her messaging: she promises revolution and getting rid of moderate democrats in favor of other extremists would drive that forward.

Of course she's too stupid and naive to do anything of this effectively or artfully so it's lolcow all the way and I for one support her visciously attacking any democrat in general. pelosi must be fuming over this
