I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

and god help you if it hails and all your solar panels get damaged and you have to replace them all

Assuming you don't have absolutely shit insurance, that's covered as an attachment to the house. Just don't have a stupidly high deductible on your house insurance and you'd be able to have them replaced. Just informational, since I've asked an insurance adjuster this question before.

Forget hail, god help you if it's just a regular windy day. After about a week, or even a few really blustery days the sand will fuck things up like nobody's business.

I guess I do kind of hate her, yes, inasmuch as people are propping her up and kissing her know-nothing ass. She's only presented a bunch of dangerous, half-baked, and incongruous ideas--many of which aren't even good on paper--and she's so disgustingly smug.

Also, she mixed up ringworm and hookworm yet claims to be a "science nerd." OK.
Oh I'm training a new guy who is taking over my shift while I get a normal shift. This guy has that smarmy smug look when saying some of the most retarded things imaginable.

Among them is:

1.) Austin has the highest crime rate in the US. Not "one of the highest" (though that's not true either) but the highest violent crime rates in the US. I think we all can name like 6 cities off the top of our heads that are more dangerous and crime ridden.

2.) Linux has no GUI setup at all.

3.) You can't eat feral hogs.

4.) It makes no sense why the earth tilts. I don't know why he brought that one up but it was so profoundly stupid we all just stared at him like "Wow, you're retarded."

Sad thing is he's actually a few years older than me and lives in some weird retarded world. He thinks the Green New Deal is perfect. I'm starting to think that perhaps it's time to march them into camps and just gas them all. We can't cure this level of stupid.

As a supplement it's not a bad idea, though it is expensive and not feasible everywhere. EEVblog did a video about cost and how things have worked out for him after a 5 year period, he's living in Australia so plenty of sun there and after five years he still didn't break even.
Yeah, I was going to say it would require massive government subsidies. Solar makes sense when powering something like say a street light or something that it's not just about energy savings but providing a safety measure for people on the road and also folks walking the streets.

Wind and solar have been in general so massively overhyped by environmentalists that they sincerely believe that they're more energy efficient than nuclear but with zero side effects ever, but that they're not used because evil capitalist Big Energy is... I don't know, sucking the magic out of the solar panels or whatever.

I'm curious how they'd explain why socialist countries where the power grid is wholly owned and operated by the government are constantly having brown/blackouts, but I'm sure that's the CIA's fault or something.
I think they are good for homesteaders and offgridders like folks who live in RV's and shit but yeah for your average joe without a subsidy, they're not as great as people make them out to be. It's like we've all said in another thread, the best way to save is to build saving habits. Being an energy hog is bad. Reducing your use of energy is important.

It's super fun explaining to SJWs who are so excited about biofuels that methane (a byproduct of biofuels) is also a greenhouse gas. It's even more fun when they express outrage over biofuels not gaining more traction, like it's the eebbil oil companies preventing it and not the tech, the cost, the energy investment, or the fact that biofuels also pollute the environment.

A major problem is still batteries. I haven't looked that much into the tech myself, but much better educated people than I have said that there really aren't enough rare metals to build enough solar panels and batteries to maintain current levels of energy usage (and that's with more than a billion humans still living with very little access to electricity).
The new thing I've seen for RV's is the eco-tek (or something to that effect) lithium ion batteries. They are very promising but super expensive. In the long run, cheaper than AGM but honestly the tech just isn't there. The big thing is that honestly we all would need to reduce our habits and switch all lightbulbs to LED and make some habit changes. I could go on and on about the things I've done to save money and also water because I do legit care about the environment.

One thing people could do and it's not sexy or fun is to take what's called navy/commando/military showers. You rinse for 30 seconds and turn off the water, lather up and wash yourself, and then rinse it all off in lieu of just having the shower run the entire time. There's also the less pleasant method of "if it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down" when going to the bathroom. Problem with that is it stinks up real fast if you live with people and hell even by yourself.

Yeah that too. Solar panels aren't cheap at all and if you're getting them to save money you're being retarded. If you're doing it for living off-grid because you live in the middle of nowhere or in an RV, yeah that makes sense to buy them.

Thats why you should dry and burn your own shit for heat. Its free Energie!
I bet I could convince people to sign a petition or pledge for that shit.

Still, insurance companies will drag their feet. I don't honestly blame them for it. People fuck up a good thing like that.

I'm going to guess he's a califaggot.
Oh no, he was from Houston! The dude is literally retarded but not at the same time. Like he has moments where he actually is legit well read on a subject only to veer off into stupid territory. Even my hardcore democrat boss admits the Green New Deal is dumb as fuck. I thought he was fucking with me at first but I think he took a hit to the head in the military and is just dumb as a post.

I told him of how my dad, who was a very avid hog hunter, would fill out freezer with that meat and also made these delicious fried cutlets out of feral hog. So damn good. He does a stupid smirk, shrugs and is like "Well agree to disagree". I just tell him he's wrong and that I won't compromise on what is clearly a false statement. He also believes in ghosts and is scared of the building like a giant fag. He thought I was scared of them when I showed him why I had the second floor lights on. It was to explain that the exterior lights suck and even with a flashlight it helps discourage people from chilling in a little nook or cranny.

I don't know what it is but the smarmy look liberals have really makes me wanna just kick off a civil war and get rid of them. It's hilarious to see someone so profoundly stupid and smug at the same time to anger up the blood.

Having grown up with perpetual droughts, I've done the military shower and let it mellow thing for years, although these days I can't do the military shower because of my garbage on-demand water heater. Environmentalists push the on-demand heater as "green", but it actually wastes a ton of water because it takes longer to get hot water, and it can't be turned off if you need continuous hot water. I don't recommend it. If the heating system in the house allowed it, I'd switch it out for an electric tank.

Although most water waste happens in agriculture and industry. Household use is a drop in the bucket, so to speak.

Indeed, the thing is they have a doom and gloom approach instead of it being everyone just pitching in and making small sacrifices. Baths are wasteful. A quick shower is nice and effective.

Here in Austin it's just smart to help with the mighty Colorado which is being strained by this region's burgeoning population. Austin was never meant to be more than a college town and the capitol of Texas. Having over a million people in the area is putting a strain on it. I honestly want to move to Dallas or Houston. I honestly hate Austin with each day. It's just so annoying how many people have the town up their ass.

The thing about these greenies like AOC I don't get is this: if your wind farms and solar panels are going to save the world and humanity, how come the smartest minds in the world are not working to improve them?

Instead of trying to make better solar and wind technology, the brightest minds and the most money are working on improving current nuclear tech and developing fusion energy.

I just want an answer to that.

Well duh, the evil white supremacist patriarchy pays/threatens scientists into working on nuclear because fuel rods are obviously a phallic symbol. This is why we need more girls in STEM but those icky gamergaters keep saying mean things on the internet!

Since I'm very green I'm for stopping immigration from 3rd world countries. It means moving people from undeveloped low pollution per capita countries to developed and colder, more energy intensive countries. To save the planet I'm willing to take that hit and stop that flow. In fact, people should be sent back home even. Hope AOC agrees with this modest suggestion.

There's also the hand-wringing of growing a shit ton of food and turning it into bio-diesel instead of shipping it to Africa, unless they don't care about that aspect anymore.
You're always an irredeemable monster if taking care of the nonwhite victims of colonialism isn't your first priority. Until they suddenly decide it's not worth it because no one should care that we are exploiting those people to get materials needed for solar power. You're also an irredeemable monster if stopping pollution and global warming aren't your first priority, until magically they say it doesn't matter that obtaining those materials produces massive pollution. I've seen these people go back and forth and back again in the same 5-minute conversation. And then they act offended when you point out that pleasing them isn't worth your energy because they refuse to stick to a consistent set of rules.

Lol this bitch is trending on youtube

Are people sharing that because they think it makes her look good? Her pathetic attempts to stick it to the old white man just show that she wants to hold banks accountable for anything anyone does with their finances. Better find out where all the school shooters have credit cards from so we can sue them into oblivion for financing the murder of students.

This takes me back to my college years when you have the one uppity freshman who just finished their entry level political science courses and now believes they know how to fix everything trying to lecture the upperclassmen or TA. AOC really is that shit-heel freshman, right down to the socialism.

By her logic everyone that uses any financial services at Wells Fargo is responsible for every environmental disaster Wells Fargo might have financed.
If AOC wants to hold banks accountable, she should maybe start with an actual scandal that occurred. Making assertions based on speculation only makes herself look dumb.
