I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

I'm frightened. I'm not ready for this future.

That's pretty definitive, but I have to admit that I'm still a little bit confused about the Democrat's critique over the vote being held. What would the Democrat's preferred course of action be, having it exist in some undefined state for some undefined period of time?

Yes. They would have left it sitting there for literally forever rather than vote on it and be shamed. It's a "political stunt" because it's actually forcing them to act on the idiocy of one of their own and embarrass themselves or embarrass her, in other words, it's the sort of stunt they pull constantly but Republicans apparently aren't allowed to do.

I live in a blue state, and I know WHY Trump got elected.

Basically, people that live outside the major cities (like NYC, LA, et cetera) are mostly republican or in the middle and believe that the people living in the big cities don't give a fuck about them. So the people in the middle voted republican in 2016 as a fuck you to the people living in the big cities.

It's just amazing that nobody in the Democratic party is acknowledging this. Instead, they are doubling down and stating bullshit like everyone that wears a MAGA hat is automatically racist.

It's why I've gone from blue, to in the middle leaning towards blue, to just wanting to stay out of this bullshit entirely. I legit cannot stand politics right now.

No way would the DNC do this, she's not making them look good, she's not making them money, and she represents a volatile group that owes no allegiance to the party.

The DNC hate her more than the Republicans do, which is why they're killing her district in the hopes that she just goes away with it. None of the Democrats voted in favor of the Green New Deal. They'll put on the airs of this being a "stunt" or "sham" in public, but behind closed doors they're shaking the hands of the Republicans and writing them an IOU for taking this shit out behind the shed and putting a bullet in it.

I wouldn't be surprised if its the Democrats that are filing the complaints against her. She's a gaff machine on top of being a complete idiot. She does more damage to the Democrats' prospects in 2020 than just about anything else.

Yeah, it wasn't a big fuck you to people in big cities. It was a rejection of failing policies that were trying to be pushed and the fruit of which we are now seeing in Europe. Also running HRC was a horrific choice.

MSM barely covers the riots in Spain and France people are mystified by this but I know why they won't touch it: It puts a huge magnifying glass over the failure that is the socialist bullshit the DNC spent the better part of the last 30 years trying to jam down our throat.

Gee, I wonder why there's a lot of blue counties towards the southern border.

I would assume that since it was never actually proposed as a bill to be voted on they view the Senate having a ceremonial vote on it to be rubbing it in the Democrat's faces. They wouldn't have this problem if they tard wrangled AOC and got her to shut the fuck up.

All right, that makes sense. On the one hand, I can understand some of her consternation (she mentioned that there wasn't a hearing for it and that it was "rushed to the floor"), but considering the tight time-frame that we allegedly are under, it seems like the world wouldn't have benefitted much from it not going anywhere.

Good lord. I shared the video of Lee with an old friend. Definitely anti-Trump, but I rarely talk politics with him post-Trump. Not worth it, really.

Naive me, I thought maybe it would be a bit of brevity from the ORANGEMANBAD brain. Nope. He texted back:

"Disgusting. He shouldn't be allowed to do that. HE should be impeached. Probably a bunch of Nazi mad scientists worked that out in some laboratory."

He's 68 years old. It's pretty fucked how much TDS fucks with the people in our lives.

This kind of derangement is worrying. He essentially was shit-posting on the floor of the Senate, one does not need to be a Nazi mad scientist to make a joke.

None of the Democrats voted in favor of the Green New Deal.

Evidently the reason for them all voting "present" was a sort of protest against the political nature of the vote itself. But in terms of optics, I'm dubious - I wouldn't have known that if I hadn't gotten linked to AOC tweeting about it directly. Did none of the Democrat Senators realize how badly none of them voting for it would look?

I can't understand that. Do they really think that using the federal government to publish bills as their personal blogs or fan-fic in any way makes them look professional or trustable? [Me looking around. Shrugging shoulders in Current Year]. Yeah, probably they do.

It's funny watching people try to roast him on twitter over this when he was putting these images up to mock AOC and the Green New Deal by saying the deal is as thought out, and should be taken as seriously as a bunch of shitpost meme images.

Let's not get too crazy here, that picture of Reagan on a velociraptor is fucking cool and should be taken very seriously.

It's a little known Cold War fact, actually. Reagan got all drunk one night, called UPS, and mailed the original painting to Gorbachev. Gorbachev was lounging in a hot tub in his dacha when the parcel came. He unrolled it and immediately called the Politburo and the head of the KGB. He was impressed. With one call, the USSR ended.

On the phone, he said, "Ебать эту фигню коммунизма, капитализм это дерьмо."

[Google Translate probably fucked it up, but that's: Fuck this communism garbage, capitalism is the shit!]

Something that rustles my jimmies about AOC is that she sounds like a perpetual 12 year old.

I think that's a universal belief among everyone who doesn't like her. She sounds like a wannabe-precocious dipshit.

Tweets like these show she has the maturity of a middle schooler and the intellectual capacity of a stump:
tweets-ocasio-cortez.jpg

"Gini Coefficient Appreciation Squad" is like a chemistry major saying he's part of the "Avogadro's Number Fan Club."

It's funny that people like AOC say that mediocre white men have too much confidence; she seems to have a ton of unwarranted self-assuredness that has been bolstered not by skill or intelligence but by the mere fact that she's a youngish brown woman.
