I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Remember that the rest of the world will fall.

But Israel will stand.

For Yahweh protects his people, and his land.

Live by the word, die by the word. If they get hit enough times and have to turn and address their own electorate/allies(they're not trying to convince republican voters) and say that it's maybe not good to immediately jump on someone for certain unfortunate combinations of words. With time and repetitions they might start to believe it themselves and apply it more broadly.

In the eyes of the common man it would be very likeable if a political cluster on one side said that the opposing political cluster might have just chosen their words poorly, let's wait and see IF they can explain what they meant and talk about that. I sincerely believe people are tired of this bullshit as a whole and the first group starting to act like reasonable adults might score big. If nothing else they can just lie and pretend to be reasonable adults as a campaign strategy.

Are the Jews the only thing she thinks about?
Even Nazis don’t mention the Jewish Problem as much as her.

You are thinking too shallow. They're semi reasonable people pretending to be constantly outraged idiots pretending to be barely functional adults.

And more and more people are figuring that out(:optimistic:). Trump ran as an outsider that wasn't part of the political establishment, same with AOC and while I don't know about Tlaib and Omar's campaigns I suspect something similar was going on with them. The same thing is happening in Europe, Ukraine elected a comedian of all things as president. More and more people are turning away from the pro-wrestling that is established politics. Internet makes outreach easier than ever for alternative parties, people connect and talk to each other, established media no longer has the monopoly on opinion and that makes them all panic. Flailing and lashing out only makes them look like tards.

I'm most familiar with Swedish politics so I'll use that as an example of how things can work.
This time last year the Christian Democrats(center-right) were below the 3.5% of votes necessary to get a seat in parliament, but they had an upswing at the last minute and right now they're at 11.7% in polls and their party leader is the one the public has the most trust in. Not because they've actively done anything to gain voters, quite the opposite, almost everyone else is shedding voters. Since the election(and shortly before it) they've been the only traditional party that hasn't constantly embarrassed themselves and acted like assholes or at least not nearly as much. It's a bold strategy, not being angry retards, but it is working.

It seems like they've finally picked up on that and their current campaign-slogan for the EU election is a very tempered and light hearted "Make EU Lagom Again" - lagom can't really be translated but it sort of means the right amount of something. Everyone wants a lagom amount of milk in their coffee and if someone asks them how much milk they want and they say lagom it means that they have faith in the one pouring.

It's a good and relaxed campaign and while they won't be close to getting the majority of votes it leaves a good impression, especially compared to the FUD-campaigns everyone else is running while slinging shit at each other.

Well by God she actually did it: She went so far off-script that even CNN didn't follow her down the rails.

Yeah, the thought of shoving screaming Jews into ovens relaxes me too.

Seriously though. I have often thought assumed someone elected to any type of government position would kinda, sort have a filter that doesn't allow them to just spew out any random garbage that comes to mind. But I guess when you have two-three coherent thoughts a day you just have to vomit them out there. Nancy Pelosi's Hag-Raven magic Nancy Pelosi & Co. can't protect her forever.

At least I hope not.

Right. Because the Palestinians are so happy to be living next to their honored guests that every now and then, they send rockets filled with candy and sweet pastries to Tel Aviv.

Seriously though, that's just absurd. That's so absurd, even Rashida Talib doesn't believe it.

Well... I mean...

Wrong. There was no Jewish or Arab land pre-1946, it was all a sort of mishmash under a British mandate. It was only upon the Israeli War of Independence (which the Arabs call An-Nakba, or The Catastrophe) upon where lots of Jews from Arab states fled to / were expelled to Israel and lots of Arabs attempted to GTFO that the 1949 partition was arrived at as being specifically Jewish or Arab. That map also doesn't take into account the 1967 occupation, following the Six Day War, of the Sinai Peninsula and Golan Heights. There's also the fact that in 2007, the Palestinian Authority / Fatah was booted out of Gaza when Hamas took over, and Hamas, despite their stated aims that Israel will be destroyed forevermore, hates the PA / Fatah even more for not hating Israel enough.
