I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

There is actually a video of her demoing her print company using public fund (lol) that didn't succeed (cuz she went to bartending later on) so if I were a betting man, I wouldn't bet on her business savvy.

If I remember correctly, she started the company as part of the community participation or contribution.

You'd think her failures as a company owner would have educated her about the Nativity of her ideals but alas.
She'd have to be self aware to understand why she failed. Chompers can't stomach that she's dead wrong on things.

Doesn't she earn more than the Amazon guy in terms of salary?

I think it was Boris Johnson, of all people, who turned a journalist's questions right around by repeatedly asking how much the interviewer earned. They were rather cagey...

I doubt she had any of her own money invested in the company. It was likely a bill footed by the taxpayer. You can hardly expect a child to learn not to touch a hot stove if it's always someone else's hand that's getting burned for their misdeeds.

That's the thing with so many modern socialists. They're really quite well to do and either socialist because they're trying to fulfill some savior complex or because they have a desire to be seen as doing good without actually doing any hard work themselves. Most of them are more bourgeois or even upper crust than they'd care to admit.

Yeah it was the tax payer funded child urban publishing company. Fucking leech failure....

There are still unpaid taxes associated with her failed business venture. It seems weird that she owes taxes on a failed business that never generated any profits. I think it's a safe assumption that a book publishing company that never published a single book didn't generate any profits. If she dumped her own money into it, she can write that off as a loss.

So how does she owe taxes on her flopped business? The only thing I can think of that makes sense is grant money. I'll bet she got some sort of of POCwomyn entrepreneur grant, and it counted as "income" and she was required to pay corporate tax on it, which of course she didn't, because taxes for thee, but not for me, comrade.

***edited to add***

Oh, and it's ridiculous that her PAC puppetmasters didn't do a deep dive on her complete financial history and scrub their star meatpuppet's record clean of any and all outstanding debts such as the flopped-business debt. A coupla grand in diverted dark money, and that embarrassing blemish on her record would've been wiped clean.

Sloppy puppetmastery. Just sloppy.

The same reason she proudly listed herself as being on the board of her own PAC even though that's blatantly illegal. She thinks she's Wonder Woman battling the Nazis and that since she's a hero in her own schizophrenic brain she can do no wrong.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Trump Admin Running ‘Concentration Camps’ On Border

m.huffpost.com

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is accusing the Trump administration of establishing concentration camps along the U.S.-Mexico border where migrants are “brutalized with dehumanizing conditions and dying.”

In a Tuesday morning tweet, the congresswoman pointed to the analysis of journalist and author Andrea Pitzer, an expert on the history of concentration camps. In an Esquire article published last week, Pitzer stated that by her own definition of concentration camps ― “the mass detention of civilians without trial” ― such a system is indeed in place on the border.

Ocasio-Cortez’s remark follows her Monday night live broadcast on Instagramduring which she said “concentration camps are now an institutionalized practice in the home of the free,” calling it “extraordinarily disturbing.”

The congresswoman’s statements have drawn condemnation from conservatives and Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer, who suggested during his Tuesday broadcastthat she owes “every Jew on the planet an apology.”

In a follow-up tweet that morning, Ocasio-Cortez lambasted “the shrieking Republicans” apparently unaware of the difference between concentration camps and death camps, referring back to Pitzer’s definition.

“Concentration camps are considered by experts as ‘the mass detention of civilians without trial,’” she said. “And that’s exactly what this administration is doing.”

Earlier this month, the Department of Homeland Security Office of the Inspector General released a report citing concerns over the treatment of people detained by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It identified issues at four facilities located in California, Colorado, Louisiana and New Jersey.

According to the report, “immediate risks or egregious violations of detention standards” were found, “including nooses in detainee cells, overly restrictive segregation, inadequate medical care, unreported security incidents, and significant food safety issues.”

Two facilities had “dilapidated and moldy” bathrooms, one facility did not provide detainees with adequate hygiene supplies to take care of themselves and another facility only allowed non-contact visits even though ICE standards encourage contact visits as well.

Questions have also been raised over care for ICE detainees as 24 immigrants have died in the agency’s custody under the Trump administration, NBC News reported. At least four more died upon being released from ICE custody.

The latest case occurred on May 28 when 25-year-old Johana Medina Leon, a Salvadoran asylum seeker and transgender woman, died in a Texas hospital less than a week after ICE released her.

Medina Leon tested positive for HIV the day she died and was complaining of chest pains when she was sent for medical treatment.

Before being released, Medina Leon had been housed in the Otero County Processing Center in New Mexico, according to NBC.

In March, an American Civil Liberties Union investigation claimed the facility was rife with “rampant sexual harassment, discrimination, and abuse,” in addition to insufficient medical treatment.

I was wondering why “Nazi Germany” was trending....
People are calling her out too.

TIL that Nazis were just trying to make sure kids were traveling with their parents instead of human traffickers.

Nazis gave out free uniforms, free tents and yes, the best shower in Europe. Not even close to inhumane treatment of migrants.

Her shirt says "rematriate."

That's on par with calling God "her" and raising your eyebrows. Christ.

Not the mention the intense personal attention paid to the campers by doctors so renowned we still remember their names today. They even called one an "angel" for his tireless work.

I'm all for stop downplaying the holocaust by calling everybody a nazi, but I'm enjoying a lot how the usual "pro free speech" supporters are so mad that AOC used these very specific words. The best part is how they're trying to tiptoe around the issue because they want to say "it's a hate crime!" despite they can't say so as it would bring down everything they've been saying for the past year.

tl;dr: pro free speech crowd is mad AOC used her free speech to downplay the holocaust.

I don't care what she says; I'm an independent farmer; socialists are my natural enemy.

Yeah I dunno who is saying I wonder.

Maybe the Jews.

I hope AOC keeps talking so she gets BTFO soon.

They are criticizing her narrative, they're not calling her to be banned from Twitter and shit. People somehow keep conflating criticism of the content of what someone says to "you don't support free speech." None of these people are saying she can't say what she said, people are saying what she is saying is stupid and giving a reason why its stupid. If the pro speech people are trying to get her banned on Twitter for what she said, then I would call hypocrisy.
