I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

They're starving because their parents are taking them across multiple countries to a country that has laws and a border, with politicians trying to use them as voting fodder and political weapons. They're starving because the Democrats that preach tolerance and love and open borders don't actually give a shit about them other than as a means to and end.

And they're starving because their parents are refusing to make their home country better instead of trying to leech off the bottom end of a more prosperous country.
I suspect that the child mortality rate in the "concentration camps" is so high compared to the Central American average because the children have just been force marched across hundreds of miles of desert and jungle, exposed to the elements, drinking untreated water, subsisting on a starvation diet, and constantly subject to intense physiological and psychological stresses like sleep deprivation and infectious disease. Even if you housed all of them in private ICU wards with unlimited funding from the moment they reached the US border, the mortality rate would still be higher than the Central American average.

Is there a middle ground between "the detention centers are absolutely fine and if you care about the kids in them you're a stupid libtard" and "this is LITERALLY Nazi Germany?" because I've seen very few takes that weren't one of the two
Most right and moderate takes are "ICE and DHS should get more funding so they can handle the border crisis adequately." Reminder that Trump has been talking about the border crisis, the media called it no crisis until it flipped to babies in cages.

I think it's stupid to get upset because it's just managerial inefficiency.

Some of them aren’t even related

It's amazing how the same people that will insist that consenting women are being "raped and trafficked" because they fuck on camera for pay will insist that there is absolutely and positively no human trafficking going on at the border and you're both racist for thinking there might be and a Nazi for trying to fight it.

It's like, I used to find it kind of eyeroll-worthy how they would invent oppression just to bitch about it, but the fact that they're willing to do that and simultaneously aid and abet actual sex trafficking and child slavery is making me long for the complete collapse of society.

That was who she displaced to get where she was, basically by shrieking that he wasn't far left and shrieky enough. In essence that he spent more time doing his job and even occasionally compromising with THE EVIL REPUBLINAZIS than telling everyone to stay woke on twitter. Now the constituents have learned the mistake they made. I'm not sure if the guy's even gonna run against her again or if he's decided to let them sleep in the bed they've made, but there's actually a decent chance she might lose to the Republican woman challenging her, especially if the challenger is enough of a Blue State Republican.
This is straight up communist inspecting "bountiful" market type of scenario. Literally inventing a scope for their benefit.

AOC would do commies proud.

looks like she is wearing a expensive Movado watch but correct me if I'm wrong
otherwise I made this ad of her.

There's no way that's a detention center. It looks like any number of parking lots in office areas in southern Texas. Detention centers have more layers of security than a single chain-link fence. On top of that, she'd be swarmed by ICE security agents. And you can't sit here and tell me she wouldn't have drenched her panties for the chance at a photo of her screaming in the face of an ICE agent.

...and for someone who's outside, in the hottest part of the US next to your mom's twat, feeling extreme emotions and expressing them physically...

...she certainly isn't sweating at all.

It may be necessary, but I just absolutely wouldn't have the heart to tell some starving 8-year-old to fuck off and die because he was unlucky enough to be born in a place where trying to cross into a better country was genuinely the best option.

You do realize they're not 'starving' in their home countries, right? And when they arrive, we don't just tell them to turn around and fuck off. We actually feed them, shelter them for a bit, provide medical care, and ensure they're safe- all of this is being done on the US Taxpayer's dime, mind you.

And if we keep letting them come here, their home countries will just use the border as a pressure release valve. In order for those shitholes to stop being shitholes, there needs to be a lot of people there getting really fucking pissed off.

If you wanna be mad at someone, try those leftist PsyOp guys that are going down there and telling them they'll be allowed into the US if they get on the caravan. They're the ones that drag these fuckers across deserts and cartel country just to use them as props in propaganda videos.

If she loses reelection, watch her effortlessy switch gears to confirm that "I didn't lose, I just decided to not campaign really hard because, honestly, there wasn't much I could do being pigeon-holed in the House, you saw how everyone around me just voted me down? It was a dead-end. I didn't have bad ideas, the small minded racist patriarchy boxed me in! Lose? No, I didn't lose, I was subverted. What I really need, and I'm sure the public will support me in getting, is even MORE power to make things my way, so, Governor/Senator here I come!"
And she will parlay that straight into her book deal and speaking tour. You just watch. I guarantee that's where her career is going and was always intended to go.

I wonder if her speaking appearances will be more of that "fake black accent" style or more along the lines of her typical "um, like, if you...if you, um, like...we can, like...whatever" thing
