I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

That's because it's really just blatant propaganda. Don't you think it was odd that she took these pictures months ago, but didn't bother releasing them until now? It's because their timetable was disrupted so they had to shove everything out ASAP, even though it's almost a year ahead of schedule. They weren't expecting Trump to start threatening sanctions against Mexico, let alone expect him to suddenly snatch up a deal with them out of midair and see that deal immediately start to take effect.

The only reason that I can assume the Democrats were withholding all of that funding for ICE and the Wall and the detention centers is that they actually wanted to make it worse, and not just out of some "flood the country with illegals" sort of way, but in the sense that they all wanted to turn this into an election year issue. "Look at how horrible the conditions are at the border and Trump is doing nothing!" That's why they were all getting their publicity shots lined up like AOC, and why it feels so fucking awkward that they're shoving them out now, and why we all got whiplash when they went from mocking Trump and his "so-called crisis" to fully embracing the fact that something needs to be done.

The detention centers and the border crisis were supposed to be the Democratic ace up the sleeve going into election year, and when Trump secured a deal with Mexico that's already causing them to take their own border security more seriously, it completely ruined that plan so they threw the switch to try and get any of it out there in the hopes that it would make at least a modicum of an impact.
 
This woman is the best thing to happen to republicans since the Podesta emails.

Honestly, I've been more impressed with the left since she came along. It's like her being elected is where rational lefties stopped and said "okay, this is the fucking line, let's take a step back from this shit here".

I'm also convinced that her recent antics are even more absurd because she has gone rogue from her YT handlers. Well, never make a monster you can't shut down, first rule of being a villain.

I was taught to do that to make people like me. But one on one. Not somewhere recorded. And subtly.

There's a difference between catching a phrase someone likes to use that you might reflect it and doing an SNL tier mockery of how you assume they sound.

AOC is definitely more towards doing that, while Hillary and Obama and such are actually slightly better and more subtle about it. This seems to be a Millennial thing... they don't think it's representation unless it's a caricature-level stereotype. They want their black people dark as midnight with lips the size of tires and voices thick like molasses, their Mexicans in sombreros and mustaches and ending every sentence with "si", and so on.

Idly the fact that AOC doesn't play up being more of a Hispanic stereotype says to me that she doesn't see herself as hispanic, latina, or anything else. I'm not sure she necessarily sees herself as white, but she was raised in privilege and seclusion from the "lesser" elements of society so she almost certainly doesn't identify with most of the people whose heritage she's now claiming for woke points, because she most likely sees them as exactly that stereotype. Much like how the media spent so much time painting Obama as "a regular black dude from the streets growing up playing basketball and eating watermelon at the cookout" when he almost certainly didn't even really see himself as black, he almost certainly identified with his own wealth and privilege (and narcissism) before anything else.

It's not as easy to think of people as classes to be pigeonholed if they don't live up to cartoonish stereotypes.

Hillary and Obama are both excellent politicians, regardless what I may think of their ideals and goals. AOC is a dipshit.

On the plus side, I never feel like she's trying to trick me. She thinks she's so manifestly correct (due to Dunning Krueger) that she needn't craft her statements at all.

While there are many SJWs that aren't Millennials, there are far fewer Millennials that aren't SJWs, in my experience.

Generation X has a high tendency towards it as well but they grew up on tales of rebellion and authentic heroism, many of them actually developed something like an independent personality before going to the SocJust Side, it gives them some grounding to work on (in many cases because their advocacy is self-serving and insincere but they actually know that). Millennials have a much, much higher tendency towards obeying authority and offering submission... the only reason the idea of #Resist is so popular with them is that they're #Resist-ing being led by people they don't like instead of ruled absolutely by people they do like. Their activism is also usually self-serving and insincere, but the difference is that they believe they believe... they've convinced themselves they really buy this stuff, and since their thought process is centered around submission to the whole and obedience to the Narrative, they believe even as they swing wildly back and forth between their positions.

Obama was an egomaniacal prick, but you can tell that he knew most of what he was saying was bullshit. If he didn't he wouldn't have had so many tells about when he was lying. He was primarily interested in an eight year all expenses taxpayer-paid vacation, along with the opportunity to sling money at his cronies and his stepfather's preferred sects of Islam. Insincere, phony, corrupt, and not always terribly bright even if he was rather canny, but at least somewhat grounded. AOC, by contrast, you can tell actually believes this shit to the extent she's capable of, even as she's badly faking real human emotion at a random section of fence outside a parking lot. She's an NPC, she just blindly believes whatever she's been fed even as she's faking things to feed to others, that's why she has no discernible tells or hesitation.

That's why it gets called a Millennial thing rather than a SJW thing. Millennials have a rather unique, unthinking, instinctive and reflexive approach to their socjust shrieking that is distinct from people of other generations who spout the same bullshit.
