I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Hey, you can't play the race card! That's our shtick!

If nothing else, Trump knows how to troll.
He must have worked in a kitchen at some point in his life because dude can stir the pot like no other.

That's what always got me. If this country is no better than nazi Germany, then why come here at all? I mean we all know the answer, but sooner or later this dissonance is going to cause some nasty, but likely predictable, effects.

They know Hitler's Germany saw mass emigration. They just can't spell.

Why admit that you were wrong when you could just D O U B L E D O W N !

I'll never stop being amused by how ferocious and intelligent she tries to present herself on Twitter, and then IRL she's just some dumpy idiot who sounds like she's 8 years-old and gets verbally thrashed by every single person in the room. She's like the personification of small dog syndrome.

Shes the embodiment of that weirdo who loses an argument, stomps off and suddenly brings it up again when she's had a week to stew.

I always hoped the DNC would crash and burn to learn a lesson about identity politics.

Little did I know it would get this bad before a turnaround. At this point moderates either need to pull a trigger of some sort now, or next time when Trump wins to just split the party and start over.

It's almost amazing how the ghost of hillary and her think tank fucking ruined everything this bad.

ITT have called her an "embodiment" many times in the last 5-10 pages.

Turnabout is fair play. Pelosi was sending Trump handwritten letters knowing that he has trouble reading cursive. I'm glad he's getting her back tbh

Yes he reads them.
Seriously?
Okay not gonna lie if that's true then that's actually oddly sweet.
...And I'm not saying that because I'm shit with cursive too.

I wouldn't have said "sweet," but it is pretty funny.

Okay how about "nice" or "helpful" instead?
Although to stay on topic Pelosi probably has to send AOC a picture book instead of a memo.

It's intentionally unhelpful in a cheeky way. I think you misunderstood.

What Pelosi and Trump both understand, and AOC does not, is that they do have to communicate woth each other, regardless how they feel personally, in order to do their jobs. AOC doesn't see herself as a public servant, but as an aristocat.

I think he's playing mind games, Trump defending Pelosi will definitely fuck with the diseased brains of the Dems progressive wing.
It already did, they’re even more losses at Pelosi and flinging poop from their diapers at trump on twitter. It’s glorious.

Reminder, when Pelosi was up for speaker AOC and Omar defended her when everyone else said she wouldn’t do shit to challenge status quo....and we were all proven right. Now they hate Pelosi :story:

Trump a lock for 2020

Trump's latest tweet caused the progressives to chimp out. It's fucking hilarious to see the actions of these clowns. This is why we need tard wranglers in Congress at this point.

This nigger sounds like my Dad.

I never suspected I'd live through a president saying, publicly, "Go back to Africa.". :story:

He said 'they should go back' instead of 'Omar should go back.' O my lord, whatever should we do.

People criticizing Trump for his tweets amuse me. It's like a coach making all the right moves in a game and then there's one thing people would do differently and they get all high and mighty and say 'told you so.' But they wouldn't even be in the position in the first place if not for their skill.

"He should have gone for it on 4th down instead of kicking the field goal! Reeeee!" But what about the fake punt, the flea flicker and the surprise onside kick that even got them to that point?

Until someone knocks Trump off his throne as king of Twitter, I'll go with his judgment.

And also, it worked. His earlier tweet defending Pelosi as not being racist stirred the pot. And because of that one and today's tweets, he got hot takes slamming Pelosi like this:
841488

Mission accomplished.

Edit: ⬇ This article right here. Exactly it. ⬇

I wonder if getting played like a damn flute will cause Pelosi to stop talking shit about the progressive wing of her own party. Is it honestly worth the catty jabs to have literally every segment of the political spectrum laughing at you?

I don't think I've ever in my life been richer for what someone said after "make no mistake."
