I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

I wonder if getting played like a damn flute will cause Pelosi to stop talking shit about the progressive wing of her own party. Is it honestly worth the catty jabs to have literally every segment of the political spectrum laughing at you?
Perhaps Ilhan Omar can pray to Allah that he strike Pelosi down.

you tell us, you filthy socialisturd :unholy:
My take is really boring on this. Establishment Dems are masochists that would rather attempt to play ball with people who actively despise them than admit that maybe their feeble noliberalism is even a tiny bit dated.

A few days ago AOCs chief of staff criticized a Dem for voting to continue funding ICE and the official fucking House Democrat account tried to issue an embarassing clapback.

The only people who were actually happy about the post were Republicans.

At this point it would actually be less embarassing to go full socialist. The only reason I'd want Trump to win in 2020 is that it'd finally put a nail in boomer center-leftism.

Ashy, my friend, do you really, REALLY think that AOC and crew are that popular? Every single person can tell that they're a grift, constantly complaining about ICE and conditions for immigrants while simultaneously blocking any spending bill to simply make things at the border better. Because they'd rather have an expedited process where anyone going through even the smallest amount of hardship gets in and are given a complete pathway to citizenship. I don't have to tell you, hopefully, that line of thinking is extremely unpopular, even among people who think fair levels of immigration are good. It's funny to see Bernie, of all people, saying that somehow these four fucking women are going to destroy the democrat party while failing to realize that demsoc candidates like him absolutely have always been voted into Congress in certain districts.

Pelosi isn't a complete centrist just because she insults Trump, her opposite political opponent, and the four fucknugget grifters hanging around her party. Especially considering she insults Trump all the fucking time but it's only the few times she calls the autist gang out that she's put extremely heavily in the spotlight. I'd respect AOC and crew more if they weren't abusing PAC shit and demographics just as much as mainstream Dems to win.

It's almost as if someone wanted to foment division in the Democratic party from the top-down, and wanted Pelosi in a position where-in she can't attack Trump or the "Justice Democrats" without being railed by the other side whenever she turns around. She's in an inescapable situation right now where-in there really isn't a winning move. If she ignores Trump, he just wails on her and the entire party, if she ignores the Justice Democrats, they continue to run amok and trash the entire party by representing psychotic, indefensible positions on the airwaves that terrify "undecided" voters.

Pelosi's #1 goal right now should be to get AOC and "The Squad" off of the air waves and out of the headlines, but the monster that is Social Justice can't allow that to happen, and trying to find a way to do that without pissing off a huge chunk of these millenial DNC voters has got to be pretty goddamned difficult. You can't just silence a woman of colour after all.

All of this is just IdPol coming home to roost at the worst possible time, and she has absolutely no way to fight back against it other than to side with the man who's been throwing her a lot of curiously-obvious ropes for the last few days.

I mean, am I wrong? Whats the least embarassing thing to do at this point?
Actually appeal to the working class like Dems used to do, which does not involve terrifying them by talking about unrestricted immigration, trannies and reparations. Funny thing is, I think the Dems focusing on healthcare is cool. It's fine, it's something that a fair amount of the working class does care about. But the working class isn't going to vote for the candidates that say "yeah you get healthcare but you get all this other retarded stuff along with it!"

Attacking centrists while the right does all they can to attract them and choosing the most retarded stance on all the things single issue voters care about isn't going them any favors either. You seem to think that going further left is the solution instead of dropping the insane policy that literally no one agrees with.

Trump's latest tweet caused the progressives to chimp out. It's fucking hilarious to see the actions of these clowns. This is why we need tard wranglers in Congress at this point.
As well it should, the tweet was retarded drivel. Half of the quartet were born in the US and as to the other half, who cares where they were born. Trump lost that one by being too open with his hatred of (legal) immigrants/people who have the wrong skin color.

When Omar is sperging about "going into the shark's mouth only when it's better, but this time it's not lol" I think Trump has a case with her. Not only is she comparing the US to a shark's mouth despite being a "proud" citizen, she's also straight up saying that we're somehow worse than the countries a lot of these people are fleeing from, which on every measurable level is incorrect. Including AOC in there was dumb as fuck though.

She's probably right though. The things they are fleeing from are largely trumped up threats, being used as an excuse to seek legal status through asylum rather than permanent illegal status off the books. Normal life in a shit hole probably much better than in a controlled facility like a "detention center" or "holding bay." One of the many reasons why detention centers are a good thing, as a matter of fact.

The better detention centers are much better than some of the places asylum seekers come from, and I'm not being a nonce. They're most certainly better than trekking across the desert or hanging out in tents, which also have AC. She's also acting like there aren't a shitton more illegal immigrants living pretty comfortable lives, especially their citizen children if they had them here, compared to those that are locked up.

AOC Defining Democrats in Swing States

Top Democrats are circulating a poll showing that one of the House's most progressive members — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — has become a definitional face for the party with a crucial group of swing voters.
Why it matters: These Democrats are sounding the alarm that swing voters know and dislike socialism, warning it could cost them the House and the presidency. The poll is making the rounds of some of the most influential Democrats in America.
  • "If all voters hear about is AOC, it could put the [House] majority at risk," said a top Democrat who is involved in 2020 congressional races. "She's getting all the news and defining everyone else’s races."
The poll — taken in May, before Speaker Pelosi's latest run-in with AOC and the three other liberal House freshmen known as "The Squad" — included 1,003 likely general-election voters who are white and have two years or less of college education.
  • These are the "white, non-college voters" who embraced Donald Trump in 2016 but are needed by Democrats in swing House districts.
  • The group that took the poll shared the results with Axios on the condition that it not be named, because the group has to work with all parts of the party.
The findings:
  • Ocasio-Cortez was recognized by 74% of voters in the poll; 22% had a favorable view.
  • Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota — another member of The Squad — was recognized by 53% of the voters; 9% (not a typo) had a favorable view.
Socialism was viewed favorably by 18% of the voters and unfavorably by 69%.
  • Capitalism was 56% favorable; 32% unfavorable.
  • "Socialism is toxic to these voters," said the top Democrat.
Between the lines: Dems are performing better with these voters than in 2016 (although still not as well as in 2018). So party leaders will continue to try to define themselves around more mainstream members.
The other side: Three members of The Squad — Omar, Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts — defended their approach while appearing in Philadelphia yesterday on a panel at the annual Netroots Nation conference, AP's Juana Summers reports:
"We never need to ask for permission or wait for an invitation to lead," Omar said, adding later that there's a "constant struggle oftentimes with people who have power about sharing that power."
Go ahead, DNC. Keep going Left, I can promise you that it's absolutely a "winning strategy."

I really like the anti-ICE position that AoC and her spud friends are taking, because it's going to cause more shit like this, from 2 years ago. I can't wait for the normies to wake up.
Do you think that she's going to cost them the House?

This is great. I really don't feel sorry for her or any of the other Democrats. They were utterly certain that this shitty little grifter was worth killing for.
