I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

The AOC "crew" embarrass the Democrat party by revealing their actual desires.

How shocking that people who work for their living view socialism negatively; one would start to think Marxists are all dindus and dipshit college students.

According to Timcast, Omar enjoys a whopping 9% approval rate outside of the progressive hugbox.....

Pelosi went full tard-wrangler on them because that sentiment is what is going to potentially not only give Trump the win in 2020, but a Republican congress as well.....

When the "face" of the D party is 4 crazy chicks and their ineffective matriarch trying to control them, the non-woke public is not going to vote for anyone in the party.

The same fate that sunk the Reps for a decade when they allowed gun-n-Jesus freaks to become their de facto public face is now pushing the neolib "D"s toward inevitable collapse. Who thought you'd see the day when a REPUBLICAN was considered a measured, rational individual who only wanted everyone to have a fair shot at living a normal life while the DEMOCRATS were the frothing-at-the-mouth moralists out to legislatively murder the heathens of the nation?

Yep. The left now has their own equivalent of the cross-burning, bible-thumping, inbred hick stereotype.

Which is worse than the right-wing's stereotype imo. At least you can disagree with the hick without getting turned into a pariah.

The thing that all these antifae just can't understand is that far-right bible-thunping white trads versus "diversity is strength" far-left tranny-enabling segregationalism is a curbstomp defeat for the left.

The former is fairly homogenous; the differences between Protestant sects hasn't really mattered much since the English Civil War. That ten percent all are pretty clear on wanting the same things.

The latter is a fractal-division "and the rest" of people who want to legislate their morality but can't agree with one another on anything besides "fuck the former."

"Live and let live" is a viable cause for the left. "Obey or be destroyed" is doomed.

Does she ever not look like a psycho in her photos.

At least Trump has "chubby baby" to go alongside poorly tanned weirdo.

But guys... hey guys... I thought if woymyyyns ruled da world there would be an end to conflict e'erywhere. Have I been lied to? I don't understand. I've been good. I say all the right things and am awarded with Switch time by my wife's boyfriend.

:start stupid rant:
Seriously though what makes me kind of angry is how the rest of the republicans are such cowards they aren't helping Trump capitalize on this. They're not fighters. They're not warriors. They're not men and women with a pulse, with adrenaline, with feelings with a soul. How can you not use this to nuke your opposition for their immorality on an hourly basis? AOC and everything her group had brought has been a blessing and you get crickets chirping.
But I'll bet those same cowardly fags are still sending out donation letters and emails all day; every day though. Trump is great in this, but IDK, with AOC maybe they also need someone who's a monster to help them grow up and be men and women. AOC and the left are clearly dangerous.
It's a weird comparison, but I'm honestly seeing them as G1 autobots. Some of them are armed to the t but don't know what the hell they're doing against such a determined force.
:stupid rant over:

Republicans are nothing more than the Outer Party. They see Trump as a usurper because they were perfectly content to lose with “dignity” prior to 2015. When 2024 hits, they eagerly await going back to that status.

Repubs aren't warriors because no warrior would so demean himself as to ask for votes and donations.

When you make whoredom a necessary step to power, you get a nation of powerful whores.

From the article:
The other side: Three members of The Squad — Omar, Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts — defended their approach while appearing in Philadelphia yesterday on a panel at the annual Netroots Nation conference, AP's Juana Summers reports:
"We never need to ask for permission or wait for an invitation to lead," Omar said, adding later that there's a "constant struggle often times with people who have power about sharing that power."

Quotes like this are such gifts to the GOP. A fringe freshmen legislator that has shockingly low public approval and has made enemies with potential ally caucuses has no power and no potential for leadership, yet the GOP can trot this out and use it against the Dems ad nauseum.

If the Dems don't primary their poll poison out of office, the GOP will be happy to capitalize on it going forward too. In fact, I'd seriously expect the GOP to quietly fund the campaigns of Omar & Cortez through back channels. There could be no better advertisement to vote GOP than two loud dimwits that rally for policies that average Americans despise, yet have no power to implement them.

My take is really boring on this. Establishment Dems are masochists that would rather attempt to play ball with people who actively despise them than admit that maybe their feeble noliberalism is even a tiny bit dated.
Yet crazily enough, that's more appealing to many of us than the "justice democrats" who want us to blindly support them despite the fact they openly and actively despise all of us.

I dunno, they've shown a lot more backbone since Trump got in office. They're hitting the Dems harder than they have in decades and no longer seem so willing to turn the other cheek. I think they've gotten a taste of winning and liked the buzz.

Until Democrat officials denounce the domestic terrorist attack (Which should be easy!) that was launched at an ICE facility and the manifesto of which specifically echoed the rhetoric Democrat officials have spread about ICE facilities, we sadly have no choice but to assume they condone it.

To be honest I'm shocked that AOC herself hasn't done so, explicitly and publicly, yet.

I'm not because this isn't just "playing politics" for her. She's not just spouting out buzzwords to ply for votes only to backpedal on them later when the polls change. She's a Communist and encouraging other people to run into a hail of bullets to "advance the cause" while she sits safely behind a desk and collects a fat paycheck is exactly what she wants.

Communists are all the same. They want a grand revolution and a glorious uprising but only if it means some other guy gets killed, instead.

She would have to tap dance too much to explain why her rhetoric matches extremely closely with the shooters manifesto.

Honestly? Seeing how insulated her twitter replies typically are and how little she addresses people outside her bubble, it's more likely to me that she thinks most people support the firebombing.
