I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

SIX MONTHS. THESE CLOWNS HAVE ONLY BEEN IN OFFICE SIX MONTHS.

If anyone has any investment opportunities that pay off even half as much in twice the time, please let me know.

I'm not because this isn't just "playing politics" for her. She's not just spouting out buzzwords to ply for votes only to backpedal on them later when the polls change. She's a Communist and encouraging other people to run into a hail of bullets to "advance the cause" while she sits safely behind a desk and collects a fat paycheck is exactly what she wants.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, I'm surprised she hasn't said something along the lines of praising the "brave individual" who "stood up to ICE". Anyone else would know that's political suicide and also likely illegal, she's such a dumb bitch true believer though that I'd totally expect it of her.

The only explanation I can think of is that the instant it happened, her Justice Democrats animal trainers sat her down and used treats and a shock collar to convince her she shouldn't.

It's almost as if someone wanted to foment division in the Democratic party from the top-down, and wanted Pelosi in a position where-in she can't attack Trump or the "Justice Democrats" without being railed by the other side whenever she turns around. She's in an inescapable situation right now where-in there really isn't a winning move. If she ignores Trump, he just wails on her and the entire party, if she ignores the Justice Democrats, they continue to run amok and trash the entire party by representing psychotic, indefensible positions on the airwaves that terrify "undecided" voters.

Pelosi's #1 goal right now should be to get AOC and "The Squad" off of the air waves and out of the headlines, but the monster that is Social Justice can't allow that to happen, and trying to find a way to do that without pissing off a huge chunk of these millenial DNC voters has got to be pretty goddamned difficult. You can't just silence a woman of colour after all.

All of this is just IdPol coming home to roost at the worst possible time, and she has absolutely no way to fight back against it other than to side with the man who's been throwing her a lot of curiously-obvious ropes for the last few days.
I should probably elaborate on this because I don't think I worded it quite as well as I could have.

In the case of Pelosi VS the Justice Democrats, this is a situation where you want to win by destroying your opponent's ability to win. The election is over a year away though, and if either side of this fight comes out ahead in this 'civil war' inside of the DNC, then all of them will be rallying under the new banner by the time the election rolls around. That's exactly why Trump keeps shoving his face through the door to keep them fighting.

When a third party enters into a civil war, it's generally never to help either side win. The intended purpose is to prolong a conflict in order to weaken a rival, IE: The French intervening in the Revolutionary War. The French didn't particularly care if America or Britain won, the intended purpose was to force England to drain its coffers and expend resources so they'd be weakened for further conflicts down the road, hence why they didn't actually leap in to really commit to the war until after it was well established that a misfit band of drunken farmers were going to beat some English ass.

Trump wants prolong the conflict; it's in his best interest. He doesn't want AOC out, not yet anyways, because she is deeply unpopular in voting groups that the DNC absolutely has to have in order to survive the 2020 elections. If "The Squad" was thrown overboard before these elections then it would help the DNC shore up swing voters who are hoping to see a "return to center" from the Democrats, and that group of voters is much, much larger than the Progressive voting bloc.

So to kick things off, he hammers down on a loosely referenced collection of "Congresswomen" without explicitly naming names, and even though Pelosi and AOC were at each others throats not even two days ago, suddenly they're right back on the 'same team', and now that they're on the same team, he can paint every single Democrat as participating in AOCs insanity, and with how much AOC and "The Squad" dominate the airwaves because of the media compared to other Democrats, that's really not difficult to do. She's rapidly become the de facto "Face" of the DNC.

What's changed for Trump? They call him a racist. They've been calling him a racist though, so functionally there's been no change at all. On the other hand, though, Pelosi and the DNC have to legitimize The Squad by banding together for Trump's "attack" because it's just too tempting to ignore, and in doing so they're right back on the same team again, so again, he hammers down on every single one of them when they band together, painting them all with the exact same brush because they never got around to denouncing the rhetoric and insults that the Squad was spitting out.

Every time that Pelosi tries to pull the DNC away from AOC's group, Trump finds a way to wrangle them back together again, and the longer that they spend joined at the hip, the more worried that swing voters become that the DNC has gone too far to the left to be suitable for election.
GOP: The Democrats are starting to distance themselves from far-left members of Congress like AOC and Ilhan. How can we show Americans that they still actively support these people?

Trump: Hold my diet Coke.

Can't he just mute them? I mean, what's the difference?

Muting is fine as far as I have read, blocking people from reading his tweets is what he can't do. You know what, let's go a step further and make his tweets mandatory, showing up on everyone's feed and they can't do anything about it. Worldwide.

I mostly agree, but not with these two points.
if either side of this fight comes out ahead in this 'civil war' inside of the DNC, then all of them will be rallying under the new banner by the time the election rolls around.
The moderates of the party will never rally under the progressive banner. The GOP rallied around Trump because it was an old banner. Republican politicians had gone from conservative to neocon, but the electorate never moved. Trump is just a return to conservatism. What the progressives want is something even the Democratic Party has never been. I don't think the moderates will ever go for it.

If "The Squad" was thrown overboard before these elections then it would help the DNC shore up swing voters who are hoping to see a "return to center" from the Democrats,
The Squad is never getting thrown overboard. They are like leeches; they grab hold and never let go. I think the moderates only solution is to break off, otherwise they will be forever linked to the regressives like Trump is doing. But even then I can see them being followed to the new party because a party of solely progressives will have zero success. But that's a problem of their own making. It took decades and generations to breed such a rabid form of progressive activists, they won't rid themselves of it overnight.

I do think it's best that Trump drag it out though. I don't want the polls to turn so lopsided against them that perhaps progressives recognize their impeding beatdown. That Axios poll about AOC and Omar that came out this weekend is still being rejected by progressives as not possible. That's what I want. I want them to still think they have it in the bag. I still want them to believe their own polling that says most people want single payer, no private option. I want them to believe their own polling that says the Dems will lose if they nominate a centrist.

When they lose, I want it to be a surprise (for them!)

Trump is just a return to conservatism. What the progressives want is something even the Democratic Party has never been. I don't think the moderates will ever go for it.

The moderates of the Democratic party, for all intents and purposes, no longer exist.

Lol. I find it endlessly fascinating how the two parties have moved apart. The GOP hasn't budged a bit really, aside from forming a new peak of fashie boys.

"Consistently Conservative" = "far-right" and "fashie"? Not mentioning the Dems have moved further left?

At this point I can't even summon the energy to get annoyed at you. If you are a deep-cover troll, step up your game.

@Prompt Critical do you have the links for those graphs? I'd love to look at that data some more.

Would you had preferred the Democratic (Dixiecrat) Party of yesteryear where they were adamant on segregation, Jim Crow and racism while the Republican Party did little because of blacks voting being illegal?

2004, you wouldn't be able to tell both parties apart from each other. So @Prompt Critical graph was accurate, albeit for the fact for they were all "moderate" because the status quo was predominately White or boomer.

Perhaps most amusingly, the "far right spike" of "fashie boys" is no further from the center than the 2017 median democrat.

Well I didn't mention it because its both obvious and a trend that I hope continues. And its no secret I consider the modern right to be basically comprised of ignorant boomers being led around on leashes by fascists and neonazis.

I'm not trolling btw. I'd be putting in a lot more effort if I was.

Do you think that she's going to cost them the House?

I'm hoping it'll cost the Dems te house, and that the GOP will start running semi-centrist candidates,

Without being able to block people, Trump will enjoy Twitter less

AOC may neck herself, or at least tell her cucky to do it for her

AoC and Tlaib have both blocked Steven Crowder, so hopefully he's going to sue them, under the same precedent that Gu-ffball created, when he sued Trump.

I don't think he reads his twitter. I've never seen him reply to a post and he rarely tags people (if ever). I think he literally just uses it to shitpost. I wouldn't be surprised if the account handler (whether Trump or an assistant) only blocked the really noisy ones just to annoy them and make them crazier. It worked, of course.

Posts like this really make me wish there was a "kill yourself" rating.

If you actually think fascist and Nazis control the conservatives, why not do the world a favor and join the boomer jihad against ICE.
