I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

I do not understand this bullshit. What if we just murdered everyone in the house and tried again next year?

I know AOC's are in the toilet and circling the bowl but I honestly don't think she understands what that means. She's several times said she believes her job is representing all of America, she's rarely if ever even mentioned her own district. I would not be at all shocked if she doesn't even understand how this whole "House of Representatives" thing works, because she's pretty much stated she thinks her job is to draft feel-good bills that aren't supposed to be voted on, tweet, and do publicity stunts.

Not long after she took office, AOC tweeted some exceptional bullshit about how Democrats run things now, that she/they are the "boss", and so Republicans need to shut up and get in line. Meanwhile, the Dems only control the House, which means fuckall politically. The Senate can shoot down anything the House tries to pass into law, and Dems don't even have enough votes in the House to overcome a presidential veto. Dems have to play nice with Republicans to get anything passed, and it's alarming that AOC got herself elected to Congress when she doesn't know how the fucking government works. It's hardly unusual for most Americans not to understand the separation of powers thanks to the sorry state of education in this country, but most Americans aren't working in government.

Is John Lewis fuckin' drunk? He's slurring like, literally every other word whenever they call him up to speak.

235 seats in the house out of 435, we runnin' this shit now! Time to roll over, Rethuglikkans! All you have is the presidency, the senate and a coinflip at the Supreme Court!

CHECKMATE, TRUMPKINS

Edit: Any time I see the House, I see a bunch of normal White men as Republicans, and insane women and minority and jew democrats. Coverage of congress does the democrats no favors, they always look like batshit invaders to me.

What sane human being sees American women, minorities and jews as invaders? Is anybody who isn't a white male an invader to you?

Let it be known that in the current year politicians can't even handle Kindergarten level banter. The House is literally debating on whether or not to condemn mean words said on the internet.

The left has become a bunch of Eric Cartmans storming away when they can't abuse and rule when they want. This is fun.

Anybody else notice the four horsewomen of the apocalypse were wearing their colors?
Omar - White Hijab (Pestilence)
Pressley - Red Dress (War)
AOC - Black Dress (Famine)
Tlaib - Pale Jacket (Death)

I feel I should point out, and it shines a whole new light on Ilhan and her refusal to condemn Al Quaeda, that the white coloring actually stands for the White Rider of Conquest.

Dind't know whether to post in TDS or ODS. Forgive me.

This is all just such an obvious political shitshow to me. Trump "violate(s) the rights of children." Is putting people under 18 in some sort of confinement violating their rights? Do children have other rights? I mean I've read our constitution and amendments, what rights is he violating?
I honestly am curious if me telling someone to go back to their country is now just racist in any context. Buddy from Japan visiting the US? Can't phrase it that way anymore cause... it means I am racist and think certain other skin colors are lesser to me. Edit:Removed cause pointless nonsense.

I don't see even the political point to this beyond maybe getting a couple of people on your side? Does AOC think there will suddenly be all these congressmen who now think Trump IS a racist (when they didn't before) and somehow they care? At least from Drumps POV he can make politically positive moves while engaging in the drama, whereas for AOC and even the democrats as a whole, everything grinds to a halt to call Trump the worst thing ever, and even if he really was, nobody seems to care, so I just don't get their angle.

President Trump knew he was going to get called a racist between 350,000 and 11 million times before Super Tuesday so its all baked into the pie, its priced in. President Trump talks about this as owning the downside. So if people call him racist some more, so what, he's content to own the downside. His opponents are now getting called anti-American, anti-Israel, anti-Semite communist kooks and dingbats that love Al Qaeda and embolden and inspire domestic terrorism. That isn't something the Squad thought they'd ever have somebody saying to millions of people and getting people to agree with it. These people were told they were in safe-for-life patronage seats and they'd be unaccountable. Now, I think they will face Democrat challengers in primaries and even Republican challengers to make them sweat it out and cause the Democrats to spend money on seats that should be safer than mother's milk. Its all negative for the democrats, for the president, this has cost him basically nothing.

Nancy Pelosi called him a racist, big whoop. Meanwhile, she fled the scene of her stunt-vote and the democrats looked like tards and clowns today.

Aren't AOC and Omar actually polling at even lower than 22% and 9% if we adjust for the fact that only 74% of pollsters knew who AOC was while only 53% knew of Omar? Or am I mathing wrong?

In terms of raw numbers maybe, but the percentages should stay more or less stable.

In fact you should be able to use the poll to predict how people will react as they learn about the politicos

If 53 percent of people knew who Omar was, and 9 percent of those people had a positive view of her, that would be a 4.77 percent A/B score, with A knowing who she is and B liking her.

So President Trump dunked on a scrub that has a less than 5 percent known and positive rating. Shitting on this basket case cost him nothing. Now, plenty more people know who she is now, but do they have positive opinions of her? She's a snotty, affected weirdo who can't point blank deny being a communist and snap condemn Al Qaeda. No, the people who just learned who she is don't have a positive opinion of her, because she absolutely fucking sucks.
