I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

They just don't know when to give up, do they?

God that article's full of shit. It doesn't even mention the fact that she was pretending to cry. No tears, no red eyes, no snot dribbling down her nose, nothing. And she was making national headlines the moment she won the primary for her district. She certainly wasn't a "fairly unknown House candidate."

She was making headlines before then. She had worked for several senators, and even worked as a surrogate on a presidential campaign. Before then she caused quite a stir at Standing Rock.

So I guess it depends on how you define "unknown"

Apparently Crowley just laughed off a primary threat from someone who had the direct and public support of that many powerful people. Alright then.

"We need to boycott Israel into the floor otherwise we're going to be forced to start protesting violently."

Uh.
To play devils advocate here, is this not the sort of sentiment stated all the time on A&H whenever a big tech company censors people?

"All this will do is drive the people they are trying to ban underground where they will radicalize" and other statements like that.

Or he realized he was toast early on and didn’t bother fighting back. I remember hearing so LITTLE about him during the election, that it seemed like he’d just given up. I wonder if he intends to run in 2020?

What exactly are they doing with bds though? Are they banning them from anything or just 'condemning' them?

Hate to double post, but ‘radicalizing” normal people was one of the major goals and tactics of the smarter members of the New Left.

That's right. People should be allowed to say dumb shit no matter what side they're on or how offensive they may be, because they're saying those things behind closed doors too so at least then you know who and where they are.

Congress has been trying to make it legal for states to bar their contractors and government employees from boycotting Israel. Many states have already passed such laws, but those laws have questionable constitutionality. Omar is trying to introduce a law that would prevent states from passing anti-BDS laws.

I'm not really a proponent of the Palestinian cause, and I think BDS won't be effective against Israel the way it was effective against South Africa, but I still think it's exceptional that states are trying to police the relatively harmless politics of contractors and employees. How would they even enforce it anyway?

I'm against it because it actually hurts the Palestinians they claim so care about more than it does Israel. When Chomsky and Norman Finkelnstein are vehemently opposed to BDS on that basis but the new left doubles down, it shows how delusional they are.

The worst part about this specific debate are the sheer number of double negatives.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force Get a #2 Squad Special

It was a problem for Devil’s Due Publishing and their first Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez comic book, that despite nationwide publicity, they couldn’t get the comic book stocked in many comic shops – which saw them selling thousands of copies directly through the post.

This time they are getting a head start and letting people make pre-ordersfor Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force #2 Squad Special, out in December.

The first issue got added attention when DC Comics set them a cease and desist letter over an exclusive retailer variant cover that made Cortez up as Wonder Woman. Maybe this time they could do the whole Justice League?

This time, the anthology will feature stories inspired by “The Squad” – Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI). Partial proceeds of the standard variant are going to immigrant charities RAICES Texas and Second Families. For the MF variant, 100% of the profits will be going to both charities.

AOC and the Freshman Force #2 Standard Cover. $6. Partial proceeds will be donated to RAICES Texas and Second Families.

AOC and the Freshman Force #2 MF Variant. $30. 100% of profits from this cover are going to RAICES Texas and Second Families.

How is anyone supposed to know it's aoc without her teeth showing?

I want to make a comic where they all get charged and jailed for campaign finance violations and their constituents spit on them, Sadly I'm not a drawfag.
