I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

I've little doubt that she's so sufficiently out of touch that she does think that "only" having that much in her bank account (one of her bank accounts more like) makes her look like one of the poors.

"Jay, when I run for President, I want you to be my speechwriter"

"Why me?"

"Cuz you connect with the average Joe out there in America! The little guy only making $150,000 a year!"

The Critic was genius and died before it's time, with ALL it's social warnings ignored.

She made a payment on her phone of about $1300.00 dollars. She then says she now only has $19000.00 left in the bank.

She makes what like $165,000 a year and is bitching about a student loan payment. A loan she willingly took out and She is at a hearing trying to get her loan forgiven. WTF.
The point of that was to illustrate that student debt in this country is alarming, yet the costs have increased for the same experience. 1.6 trillion in student debt, but the expectation of cost of living in this country mandates a college education. Even professors or teachers are still paying off student debt. A legitimate problem in this country often ignored or put aside.

I have a bit of sympathy, up until she mentioned having 19k in the bank. Which is more saved than what other people have. Benefit of the doubt is she can save? Or wealth is disproportionately distributed in this country?

This is where not having already established yourself as a loon would have gone a long way towards a solution if your'e going to speak up about it.

But, "Muh relevant issue!" doesn't help if you already have a reputation as a horse-faced screecher who babbles about cow farts, global warming causing building fires and thinking you have the clout to subpoena the President for anything you like, as a freshmen Rep, no less.....

Socialism with warmongering characteristics.

She famously complained about not having enough money to rent an apartment in DC after she was elected (but prior to getting her first juicy congressional paycheck). I suspect her spending habits just haven't "adjusted" to her new income level yet.

ETA: Someone mentioned she's making $165k a year now. Slicing 25% off that for income taxes and other deductions, she's pulling about $10k a month. So she's got about two months' pay saved up. She's just one big expense away from living paycheck to paycheck. Her bartender roots are clearly winning out over that useless economics degree she bought.

AOC makes student loan payment during hearing to try to prove a point.

She has less than $20,000 in student loans less than a decade after graduating, and having earned a bartender's salary.

Boston University tuition- 50,000/year X 4 years = $200,000.

That tells me that her Intel scholarship was a whopper. Practically a free ride.

Let's discuss privilege, shall we?

"Yet another" - apparently every time he talks to Kim Jong, it opens a new complaint ticket, because he's been "siding" with him per the Dems for 3 years now....

And isn't that one of the basics of diplomacy? We want Kimmy to like Trump/America

Maybe post something about how he sided with the dictator or a link rather than just post a small out of context part of a TDS infested MSM "news" channel?

Remember during the election when the Dems were going crazy about how electing Trump would lead to wars with a laundry list of nation's including N. Korea? So now they're salty it didn't lead to war but closer relations?
