I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Something that I've found when photographing black people is that the camera often doesn't pick up their features very well. Backlighting affects them way more than for whites or other races. Backlighting that would cause no issues for a white subject makes the black subject almost look like a shadow. Granted, I'm hardly a professional photographer, but the surveillance cameras used for facial recognition are surely worse than my amateurish photography.

But, of course, the problems with car AI not seeing black people in the dark and facial recognition cameras not picking up their facial features is due to racism and not biology/physics.

Did you mean "blacklighting"?

In the war against facial recognition, only the juggalos will survive.

Juggalo Makeup Blocks Facial Recognition Software

Whoop Whoop, y’all! Does the thought of facial recognition surveillance scare you? Are you also looking to join an eccentric group of music fans? But most importantly—are you down to clown? It looks like becoming a Juggalo might be your best bet. Turns out, facial recognition software isn’t great at recognizing fans of the Insane Clown Posse.

ICP’s devoted fan group, the Juggalos, are known best (second to drinking Faygo) for their black and white clown-style makeup. This specific look obviously creates stark areas of contrast on the face. This is important, since most facial recognition software uses areas of contrast to locate a person’s features and identify them. You know, like their eyes, mouth, nose, etc.

Ticketmaster and LiveNation, who currently use this type of software, learned its limitations, thanks to the Juggalos. Turns out, the black patterns that usually outline the eyes and mouth regions of a Juggalo get mistaken as a person’s features. So, a person can’t be recognized because their features have been redefined by the makeup. Basically, you’re a different person when you’re a Juggalo. It almost works like a digital plastic surgery makeover.

So, if you don’t want our digital overlords keeping track of you, you might want to sport some clown makeup when you go to the mall or movies. This also means you’re virtually indistinguishable at an ICP concert, which is pretty cool. However, there is one piece of software that can recognize you in your Juggalo makeup: Apple’s Face ID. Instead of using areas of contrast, Apple uses depth perception to recognize a person. So, don’t worry—you can still unlock your phone in full Juggalo attire.

Now, if Apple begins to collaborate with other venues seeking facial recognition software, then you might be in trouble. Until then, you can still get away with digital anonymity by joining the Juggalo fam. Whoop Whoop!

Funny enough, it'll be juggalo makeup that saves us from a surveillance state. This is a very weird timeline.

A spicy new hot take from AOC

This from the "No person is illegal" cunt.
They're not illegal, just their level of wealth. A billion dollars? C'mon, why do you need a million dollars for? No one should have more than 500k.
Private ownership of precious metals should be illegal too- put it all in the bank. We need to make sure you don't have more than you're allotted. No offline investments or holdings.

How will you prevent someone from being a billionaire? If you tax them too heavily, they’ll just leave or put their money in offshore accounts. The only way to really get rid of a billionaire is to kill them. AOC claims to not support killing billionaires, but as always, she hasn’t thought this through.

If someone makes a billion dollars they have earned to do what the hell they want with it. Some people spend it on awful shit while others like Bill Gates use his money to make the world a better place.

I can't wait for AOC to become a millionaire.

Given the amount of campaign funds she embezzled she probably already is. That's why she's echoing her mentor Bernie Sanders by focusing on billionaires... ol' Bernie used to say "millionaires and billionaires shouldn't exist", but suddenly switched to just "billionaires shouldn't exist" when he got a few million in the bank.

"Steal from whoever you want, as long as you don't steal from me", the credo of the socialist politician.

From a Marxist perspective, she is already a class traitor anyway. Rather than fight the system, she joined it and attempted to reform it from within, failed, and will now be collecting a healthy paycheck for, if I remember my facts about House Reps and Senators correctly, for the rest of her life.

"A senator or representative’s retirement benefits are based on their plan, age and how long they served. No member of Congress is eligible for his or her pension unless he or she has served for at least five years. To collect their full pensions, congressmen must be at least 62, or at least 50 with 25 years of service."

That's a myth perpetuated by retards. You have to have done 5 years to qualify for any retirement. For a full retirement you have to meet one of three criteria: you have to be over 50 years old and have done 20 years to get a congressional pension, have done 25 years, or if you are over 62, then it's 5 years.

People need to learn to fucking read and do some of their own legwork. Trust in the MSM is at an all time low, but people believe every word that comes out of their mouths or some youtube retard with a neckbeard.

@MyCatIsFarty @break these cuffs

Wait is she actually a millionaire already? I thought most of her luxury was afforded because she got her dead dad's paid-off apartment. And weren't most of the campaign funds diverted to her sneaky boyfriend, not her own accounts? Surely she hasn't accrued a million dollars yet.
I assume every politician is crooked as shit until proven otherwise. The fact that her bf is an embezzler makes her claims of being a poor working class latinx even more laughable in my eyes. How many speaking engagements has she done? What does she charge for them? Is she a consultant for human rights groups? There are more ways to earn money as a politician than embezzling it or taking bribes from lobbyists.

It's generally considered all of them because so few congresscritters get voted out after only two years.

This was something that I heard from my pop once. Never really struck me as something I needed to know. Thanks, I suppose.

Not saying I disagree with you. But I don't buy that she's a millionaire yet. Maybe in a couple of years.

Maybe not. Isn't the joke that she's an economics major with no idea how to handle money? I saw a bunch of articles going on about her expensive suits, so she can't be saving that much. She makes about 80k annually and I don't think she can do consulting gigs while in office. It doesn't pass the smell test for me yet. Minor point overall. Would still hate fuck the shit out of her every night and let her buy me nice things.

You'll never nut as hard as you will the night you turn her into a Republican. :drink:

She makes 174k a year.

Or turn as soft as the night she convinces you to pledge yourself to the soy.
