I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Women should negotiate for parental leave when they get hired.

Legislation makes it seem like women are weak and need men to do things for them.

Women constitute a big portion of workforce so businesses lose money doing so. It is in fact their responsibility to do so. But employers gotta say no because profits, and then they bitch about their employers being sexist.

People should be more active in determining their own workplace experience in general via negotiation, contracts, and making it clear they're ready to leave and seek work elsewhere if their needs aren't met, and if they were workplaces would be forced to offer more benefits to retain able workers. It's specifically because most workers are too afraid and too lazy (and in many cases, too superfluous) to do this that they have to go whining to Mommy Government to make the company be nice to them.

I guess they'd rather bitch they were out of business.

How does she know that everybody who can give birth identifies as a person though?
Government mandated paid leave is a terrible idea. The United States is one of the few countries without mandates paid leaves for a reason. Besides, forcing it towards all companies would hurt women in the long run since employees would have to consider the inevitable time off to take care of children, something they don’t have to do with men. The United States also has more women heading companies than European nations progressives love to advocate as the bastion of equality. John Stossel has a good video on this,

The sad part is that both side of the isle are pushing for this. As if we need more government in our lives that doesn’t involve breaking up companies that don’t respect the First Amendment.

Holy fuck, Talib acts like a psycho girlfriend that many guys talk about. She sounds like a psychotic girl when she gets rejected by a guy and is on their way to murder him. Talib gives me really bad vibes.

There is one of the squad you never hear about. Is she “shockingly” focus on her job more is smart enough to not sperg out on twitter?

It's not so much that she's focused on her job as the other thing. She's a standard far-left Democrat terrorist supporter and wannabe tyrant, but since she's not "YAS KWAYN SLAAAAY!" on twitter all the time it's easier to forget about her. I'm sure she's one of the few "Squad" members that the DNC actually likes since she knows her job is to sit down, shut up, vote as told and rake in the kickbacks.

So this must be that "solemn sadness" the Democrats talked about so much. I wondered what it looked like.

No, that one also blames racism/white supremacy for everything wrong with the world including toddlers acting out at daycare. She's just not as interesting or as loud as the other psychos.

Maybe these dumb niggers just have shitty jobs?

Did AOC's thread get rolled into this one? Either way:

I second that. That screams the same kind of narcissistic euphoria i've seen from a certain ex of mine with BPD who would act like talib did in the video right before doing a 180 and completely losing her shit at random people. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find out she was holding in all kinds of vitriol that she wanted to scream at everyone in the house about trump after the vote, nor that she did as soon as she was away from prying eyes and microphones

Should be real interesting to see her response to finding out that this impeachment will not amount to a thing. If anything its pushing him further toward being re-elected in 2020

Trump has seen a huge bump in his campaign donations. Apparently virtually every Republican has.

Wonder what the Squad's are looking like at the moment?

AOC has raised enough money to campaign for reelection twice.

And she did it without once doing that pathetic dialing for dollars shit that "all" freshman congresspeople have to do.

Her compatriots aren't doing too badly either. Pressley is the poorest of them and she's still bringing in enough to pay for everything.
