I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

The Dems and the medias push an AOC presidential run for 2024.

It was worth to read what some Youtubers thoughts of AOC 2024 run.

:story:
This simpleton isn't even going to survive redistricting.

New York is projected to lose two seats

This is like the 1980s where the Democrats moved further to the left when the country was on a clear rightward shift. After Carter bombed in 1980, they went further to the left in 1984 with Mondale. After losing even worse, they continued looking left with Dukakis in 1988. It took a straight decade of getting thumped before trying a moderate in 1992, who only won because of Ross Perot. AOC would see Mondale-like results.

Perhaps they might try AOC as VP candidate first to not burn her too quickly just like they did with FDR in 1920?

God, I legit wish I could see the political landscape today if Perot hadn't fucked up his run, because if he hadn't pulled that cat-at-the-front-door bullshit with whether he was actually running or not he probably would have won.

Bloomberg owns the state of Virginia and Washington and from I read in other threads, Soros and Koch brothers are up to no good as always such as that national vote compact thing or the fight to stop the white supremacist boogeyman.

I am shocked Bloomberg is pushing hard like I want my laws passed right now, thinking managing a state without knowing about anything about it is the same as being mayor of New York City

Bloomberg is dumping a lot of money in VA because there are a lot of rich New Yorkers transplanting to VA to escape city life and they unfortunately don't reevaluate their political stances and question themselves as to why they left and keep on voting the way they did before they moved.

Nobody wants or likes the GND. If you had any sense, you would stop bringing this up. Even AOC doesn’t really talk about it anymore.

"Without Congressional approval"

Nancy Pelosi herself gave Donald Trump approval to launch those strikes.

Three successive presidents have relied on the post-9/11 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) to justify military operations around the world.

Maybe Ilhan Omar should learn how to politics

I highly doubt Sulemani would deal with this adulterous sunni whore. Read a thread on /pol/ where he praised Hitler and nazis for being the last anti Zionists westerners and considered the refugees going to Europe to be filth.
You don't need to like a tool to find it useful. And after all, once a tool is used up, you throw it into the garbage...

Not having children would definitely show her commitment to the cause. On the other hand, having one kid isn't going to destroy the ecosystem.

Just don't have a kid with Riley, he's a faggot and will probably dump you for the kid's baseball coach.
I can never take leftists seriously when they start opining on what modern malady makes them nervous about settling down and raising kids. First it was overpopulation, then it was the hole in the Ozone Layer, then it was food security, then it was terrorism, then it was climate change.

The common factor among all these other excuses? The general tendency among that demographic to fear responsibility, embrace hedonism, and lecture others using the hypothetical children they'll never have on why the world has to undergo massive reform, as soon as possible.

AOC is doing exactly what she said she was going to do as far as backing primary challenges.

She needs to pay her party dues though. Tim is right, Socialism means sometimes you have to pay people you don't like.

But it is hilarious watching people pretend to be blindsided by shit she's been talking about since like 2017
