I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

That, and he's against deplatforming and has allowed controversial figures like Steven Crowder, Ben Shapiro, and Jordan Peterson to talk on his show.

Apparently merely letting a mildly funny basic conservative, a neocon chipmunk, and a perpetually depressed Canadian psychologist with a painkiller problem be guests on your show is the same as being a Neo-Nazi committing acts of violence.

This is what the Millennial Left actually believes.

Ben Shapiro and Steven Crowder aren't controversial at all. They are the watered down, mainstream conservative talk show figureheads or, in Crowder's case, Baby's First Shock Jock. If the current social media snowflakes weren't the way they are, these two wouldn't make a blimp on anyone's radar.

PS: Shapiro's hangers-on Klavan and Knowles are often more interesting than that high-pitched midget.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez demands the government distribute a universal basic income and implement 'Medicare for all' to fight the coronavirus

A fight over the coronavirus response
Democrats are attempting to bring Republicans on board with the legislation, but the White House and GOP lawmakers are resisting it.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy called the bill "completely partisan" and "unworkable." Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called the legislation "an ideological wish list that was not tailored closely to the circumstances."

So Nancy Pelosi and Kevin McCarthy are disagreeing on some things and maybe they need to make a compromise or two to get this thing done. Here comes AOC howling about radical nonsense

This political cartoon is hilarious, and totally on target.

Also I am not at all surprised that AOC would attempt to use this crisis to push her Marxist agenda. It’s pretty much standard from the Communisim/Marxism playbook, and I knew it was just a matter of time before someone tried to pull something like this. Fortunately AOC, Saunders and the rest of them are completely incompetent and couldn’t leverage a crisis if their lives depended on it.

No they aren't however.

Look at a Sheep.
Look at a Giraffe
Look at an Alpaca.

There was some Hot Wailord on Skitty action going on to make Alpacas.
Doesn't matter. An alpaca is a vicuna that was artificially selected to be woolier and more docile. Alpacas and camels also look pretty similar, have a bunch more similar features, and originate from the same continent (North America).

AOC is objectively speaking one of the worst politicians we've ever seen. Being a legislator is a job that is about building coalitions and getting things done together. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came charging into Congress telling people that she wasn't there to make friends and then halfway through her first term in office she tries to primary two dozen people in her own party.

Meanwhile her debate technique seems to boil down to picking a good shade of red lipstick and accusing her opponent of being racist.

I legitimately think this woman could be mentally challenged

How about encouraging people to seek other methods of schooling? Trade schools are vastly underrated and have jobs that societies need in order to function. Also, too many people are going to college. Finally, canceling all student debt would be a massive blow to the economy. Banks earn money through loans.

That makes sense. Introduce sweeping, destabilizing, potentially bankrupting changes during a pandemic that is already causing global economy breakdown!

*Cancel* student debt, as in just fuck the banks in the ass?

I'm all for watching you try before suddenly developing suicidal tendencies.

“Make America Into Somalia” seems to be her motto, so it’s fitting.

That silly clown has better be careful of what she wished for. They stone to death adulterous whores with a liking for colonial white dicks over there. The only thing protecting her from multiple cracks on her skull is the very Uncle Sam values that she claims to abhor.

as in just fuck the banks in the ass?
the "canceling" would just be the government handing banks money, which is just business as usual.
one reason they don't want it is that it means that the average voter will actually start to believe that the government is their personal piggy bank and not just the bailout machine of big biz and the mother-provider of welfare, meaning that the banks can no longer play the middle-man. but when UBI becomes a thing - and it will become a thing - that notion will just fade away regardless. the issue is that the banks have to retain the facade of utility somehow, just like the university system will after the loss of credibility and student debt crisis, the UN/WHO will with this pandemic, etc etc. so the banks will maybe become more just, i dunno, paper pusher wagie cages without customers someday.
(by the way, pandemics could be an actual excuse to eliminate paper money due to viral spread)

AOC rips coronavirus relief bill as 'completely insufficient,' calls for cash infusions, reimbursing students

"It is a step forward, but it is completely insufficient," Ocasio-Cortez said Saturday during a video conference with her constituents on the pandemic response and the 2020 Census.

Ocasio-Cortez called for working families to get cash infusions, like the universal basic income idea of Andrew Yang, the former White House hopeful. Since many low-income workers will be forced out of jobs because of the nationwide shutdown of the commercial sector, Ocasio-Cortez said the moment calls for bold action for an economic safety net.

"We really need to make sure that we are advocating and pushing for immediate cash infusions," Ocasio-Cortez said. "We are asking for a complete halt to student loan payments, a halt on evictions nationwide. And we are also calling for mortgage relief."

Now's the time for universal health care too, she said, calling "to open and extend Medicare and Medicaid to every single person in the country that needs it."

Ocasio-Cortez said she sent a myriad of letters to Trump Administration officials to take immediate short-term action, such as extending the census count by three months, ordering health insurance plans to reopen their enrollment period and reimbursing low-income college students for the costs to pack up and leave shuttered campuses.

there's nothing wrong with what Cortez is calling for as far as temporarily halting evictions. Even that would be difficult or impossible but at least it would be inside of the realm of possibility. Sadly good intentions and sunshine doesn't keep the economy moving.

I'll never understand how anyone can think this sort of transparent maneuver could work. Sure, you didn't want anything to do with my ideas yesterday, but have you considered [Current Event]? This unrelated happenstance certainly proves me right and should pave the way for the reforms I demand. If you disagree or call me out on my obviously manipulative narrative you want the poor to die sick and homeless.

An honest to god Representative is repeatedly using the bother your parent until they cave technique on one of the biggest political forums in the world. I'd find it despair-inducing if it wasn't too weak and obvious to fool anyone capable of dressing themselves.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came charging into Congress telling people that she wasn't there to make friends
To be fair, Ron Johnson did the same thing when he was elected to the Senate in 2010, but since he's actually accomplished and intelligent and not an airheaded piece of gutter trash, it actually worked for him.
