I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

BERNIE SANDERS SKIPS CORONA VIRUS VOTE FOR EVENT WITH THE SQUAD

WASHINGTON — Sen. Bernie Sanders claims he’s too busy dealing with the coronavirus crisis to pull the plug on his ailing campaign — but when it came time to vote on a crucial, $1.8 trillion stimulus package Sunday night, the presidential wannabe was in Burlington, Vermont, holding a campaign event.

While the rest of the Senate hammered out the package into the early hours of Monday, Sanders was continuing his doomed White House bid with a virtual “coronavirus roundtable,” starring firebrand Reps. Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Sanders spent the first 30 minutes of the video hectoring his Senate colleagues over the bill, accusing Republicans of giving the Trump administration “a blank check to hand out corporate welfare.”

I feel sorry for anyone who was suckered by this lousy grifter.

It seems like Bernie Sanders has been slacking off at his job. Running for President doesn't mean you get to stop being a Senator.

Mr. Sanders has missed 61.6% of votes in the 116th Congress (2019-20)

Was Bernie Sanders lying when he said that he was focused on the Covid-19 outbreak instead of the election?

He fucking refused Tulsi's endorsement to chase after these idiots' favor instead. Bernie's proof positive that subsequent fawning from twitter turns you into a drooling retard.

I wonder if Jack Dorsey every day weighs the pros and cons of the money he makes versus how much he has destroyed common good public discourse and sent this country back to pre civil war era, where is there is a clear division and you can see through people's clothing, consumed products and property which side of politics they are on.

It's obviously weighing on him heavily. For the last two years the man's private social media has been nothing but him running through an entire yogi's library of various new age mysticism and "spirtual guidance". Currently it's public news that his board is weighing options to try and force him out of the company. I sure wouldn't trade shoes with him.

It wouldn't surprise me that Cracked shed good people over the years. Do you have any Cracked videos to link to with señor political analyst Andrew?

the one with the beard. couldnt find something better right now, but there is video with him talking normal and without beard and he looks 100% the same

I watched some of the video and I didn't see any shot where he was speaking and could look directly into his mouth and see his gullet. It seems possible that he came out of Cracked, they used to have some fun people.

I guarantee you Jack Dorsey doesn't care. His money completely isolates him from experiencing any negative consequences of his actions.

I miss After Hours. Cracked used to be so fun.
After Hours also became pretty shitty in the end. At one point they made the argument that Sauron was the good guy in LoTR because his armies were a diverse coalition against an all white enemy. By that logic, the British Empire was the best thing ever, or for that matter even the Nazis, since they had Muslims, Slavs, and even Indians fighting for them.

This is the dumbest shit I've ever heard of. Exactly how is Bernie Sanders right about healthcare when he's been peddling the same dumb crap for decades?

By this logic Ron Popeil is the greatest fisherman ever because he's been selling the same Pocket Fishermen for years, even though his plastic piece of crap doesn't work and nobody actually uses it.

If you give a man a fish you've fed him for a day. If you give a man a pocket fisherman you're a troll.

Christ.

I gave up on cracked after they put out the video saying "Hoosiers" was a bad movie because the white kids played their best against the black kids instead of letting the benighted darkies win.

I never cared about "Hoosiers," but I don't like condescending racism in my silly pop culture free time entertainment.

His rotisserie was unrionically good.

This video is way funnier with the sound off. It also saves you from having to listen to her shriek like an angry baby because Pelosi's GND bill didn't live for longer than like a day.

I suppose not passing the bill would have allowed the income inequality issue to be ameliorated as the market atrophies rapidly from large businesses being largely unable to incur the cost of hiring and retaining workers during and after this crisis.
