I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

I surprised no one has claimed that AOC falsified her taxes as a bartender. As DSP will find out about not listing tips as taxable.

Given Bernie Sanders' lack of support from the unions and his own checkered past regarding worker's treatment I am forced to question if he is the right person for this. The American people are beginning to see Mr. Bernie Sanders for the grifting loser that he really is.

So this and the recent Joe Biden thing with that blue-collared worker. I'm guessing Trump 2020?

Bernie and AOC kiss and make up by transparently scolding a Megacorp for possibly mistreating workers in a way that is weeks too late to make any hot take points out of.

That's actually Ilhan Omar lol
I guess he wants to make sure that Bezos hates the entire Squad

Given that Bernie is going to be ending his campaign after the NY primaries I can foresee there being some sort of ridiculous event there. It's pretty clear now that Bernie never intended to win so there's no reason to hold Alexandria's incompetence against her.

This video is way funnier with the sound off. It also saves you from having to listen to her shriek like an angry baby because Pelosi's GND bill didn't live for longer than like a day.
With the sound off you can pretend that she's arguing with her parents that she should totally get to go to Palm Springs with her friends on Spring Break, because 16 is like, totally, almost an adult, and anyway, Caitlynn's aunt lives like two blocks away and she's gonna totally be in charge and

It's obviously weighing on him heavily. For the last two years the man's private social media has been nothing but him running through an entire yogi's library of various new age mysticism and "spirtual guidance". Currently it's public news that his board is weighing options to try and force him out of the company. I sure wouldn't trade shoes with him.

Sounds more like he's turning into Gavin Belsen than anything. Maybe he has a blood boy.

AOC upset because illegals won't get any stimulus money.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is very upset that noncitizens won't be receiving $1,200 checks in the $2 trillion emergency relief bill unanimously passed by the Senate Wednesday night.

To clarify, $1200 checks are ONLY going to some w/social sec numbers, NOT immigrants w/ tax IDs (ITINs).

Thanks to GOP, these checks will be cut off the backs of *taxpaying immigrants,* who get nothing. Many are essential workers who pay more taxes than Amazon.

The law requires authorized workers who are noncitizens to have a social security number in order to legally work in the United States. It's also illegal for noncitizens to steal someone else's social security number in order to get a job, though many noncitizens do just that.

The Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) was created in 1996 in part to capture taxable income from people illegally working in the U.S. When ITIN workers file tax returns, which they're required to do, many claim credits like the Child Tax Credit, Additional Child Tax Credit, Child and Dependent Care Credit, and the American Opportunity Credit. State and local governments also spend billions every year providing services for illegal immigrants, according to the Federation for American Immigration Reform. That's hardly "nothing," as the congresswoman suggests.

If a non-citizen wasn't working in the U.S., why would such a person need a relief check anyway, and why would it be the U.S. government's responsibility to give money to such an individual? Such individuals should ask their own countries for relief.

Not surprised.

I'm pretty close to believing my friend who says she's a GOP plant.

How could you make your party more obnoxious to voters than to tell them they need to pay criminals?

The relief bill needed to fund deportations instead. Illegal immigrants are a big drain on society and we can’t afford to have them around, let alone cut checks to from the relief bill.

The GOP wouldn't plant anybody when they've got neocons and rinos trying to stay relevant. We finally got free of McCain but got Romney, and there's just enough neocon and NeverTrump dissent to make the post-Trump GOP crack down in a DNC-like fashion to make sure nobody comes close to that ever again.

"We've gotta protect our phoney baloney jobs, gentlemen! Harrumph! Harrumph!"

A plant by whom? It wasn't McCain. He just spoke with her for a while and then called Bernie.

Not surprised.
I'd support the giving money to illegals if that meant that a sum of the money they made and possibly hid from taxes were taken too, which ironically would make them akin to citizens.
