I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

I've never seen simping like this. This is atomic simping. Soybeans has obviously trained hard and eats his wheaties because he carries some serious water for AOC

Good, those aren't the arm flails of a rational, elected (or selected because I'm forgetting how the House members work right now) leader.
I don't blame you for being confused about elections when it comes to AOC but she was indeed elected, in a primary election where the incumbent didn't fight her and then immediately took a higher paying job as a lobbyist.

We could train her to press buttons in experimental space caspules.

You know she likes her protein pills.

A Mexican Crossing Lines did a long-form, deep dive into AOC (Sandy).

Oh hey, Alex is mad at Faiz Shakir too

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been quietly distancing herself from Sen. Bernie Sanders in an effort to shift the progressive path forward given his likely defeat in the 2020 Democratic primary, according to a new report.

The relationship began to break down in early February, when Sanders’ campaign manager, Faiz Shakir, complained via text to AOC’s campaign manager about her performance during a three-day stretch campaigning for the senator in Iowa, according to Vanity Fair.

Some people are calling out AOC for joining hands with the establishment democrats, including Cenk Uygur:

A lot of her twitter fans aren't too happy with it.

Who could have foreseen a bunch of loons turning on one another in an endless purity spiral?

Cenk should get good. What did he get, like 0.5 percent of the vote?

The best part is watching them turn on Tulsi Gabbard. She gave up everything for an old man who wouldn't even return her calls.

Also:

This is an amazing turnaround. This guy was simping hard two days ago, I posted about it lol

Edit: HERE COMES GRETA

So shrill Greta is getting shrill at shrill AOC. Good God, the sound must be grating.

girls, girls, girls!! Stop fighting. We already know both of you are frauds and are just in it for the Twitter clicks.

Edit: HERE COMES GRETA

Why does this not surprise me?

I'd imagine Greta's callout of AOC would look something like this...

The Woke Left turns on their own. It's the only thing they're always consistent on these days.

I'm going to guess AOC has gotten very comfortable in her new job, and as reality sets in and a new election is closing in she automatically tries to be less oppositional. Time to play ball and become a proper career politician I guess.

I honestly thought that the DNC tossed AOC out of a moving car like they did Christine Ford when she was no longer a political asset.

She was all over the place for quite a while, but lately it's been media silence about The Mean Congresswomens Club.

she and the justice dems are useful for wrangling the farther reaches of the left under the larger umbrella of the dems' control (this isn't by grand design as much as just evolutionary design). this is how you get shit like bern victims voting for hillary or biden. not saying that the justice dems can't pull the whole party further left - let's remember that obama was called the deporter in chief more than once - because, in reality, politics in a decaying society and especially in a "democracy" is about increasingly petty powergrabs, even at the level of a newspaper, and vote-wrangling (also think about exactly what kind of person would be attracted to "politics" in a modern "democratic" state). one result of this collapse in societal time-preference is the increasing hyper-idpol afoot in $current_year;, another is the increasing appeal to socialistic policies, andother a push for mass immigration/open borders, and so on.

If the DNC helps her avoid getting primaried this year I'll 100% start believing she was controlled opposition from the start. Her public story vs. her actual upbringing are in pretty stark conflict (she grew up in Westchester, not the Bronx, she interned for Ted Kennedy, went to a private college, etc), and if Pelosi seriously helps her get reelected after the way AOC's been dicking her around for the past year that's the only explanation for it. Pelosi's retarded, but she's also petty, and AOC has done everything she can in public to make it look personal.

You can't really call the sort of political vote-grubbing and base pandering signs of a decaying society, since it's been part and parcel of liberal democracies (and American politics especially) since at least the 1860s. The messages and skin color of the players may have changed, but the game has always been the same.

Makes me wonder if Pelosi still believes a glass of water could win AOC's district.

Exactly. The district she came from is DEEP blue. That's why they could celebrate her congress seat as soon as she got her low energy, lucky break primary win. It doesn't matter if they primary her, the seat is 100% safe and would have a more easily wrangled tard sitting in it.

They could run the Coronavirus itself as the (D) rep for that district and it would win in a landslide.
