I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Can we stop with the pandering then since we have 14 months left?

It was nice knowing y'all. I want my money back.
I like you now that you're a literal nazi like me.

The Doomsday Clock wasn’t really the same thing as the extinction bullshit, it was just a way to illustrate global political tensions and make people think about the risks of provocations. It was theatrical and largely pointless, but everyone knew that the threat of nuclear war existed during the Cold War and we weren’t being told that riding a bike to work and ceasing all activity at sundown would save all our lives.

The crazy green activists that were anti nuclear power used that to emphasize why nuclear power was bad in all forms, and the "You can't hug with nuclear arms!" activists crossed over with the "Atomkraft? Nein Danke" crowd. Similarly, don't be surprised if you see overlap between angry vegans and anti-fur activists. Opposing milk being served in schools, because cowfarts, and being angry at leather underwear is not the same thing but both groups have a common cause.

Talib and the other lesser known member announced the Breathe Act, which includes defunding federal prisons, abolishing ICE, UBI pilot programs, and free access to a lifetime education for all people including illegals and felons. Notice who is running the “project”. That sounds like a multi trillion dollar plan, much like the GND. I can’t see this passing the Senate. Also, the US is its own sovereign country, why can’t these people accept that?

Any politician that encourages illegals to vote is being treasonous. They are openly admitting that they want the nation to be taken over.
And this is the same people who were crying about Trump and the Russia collusion conspiracy. This is technically a call of arms to let outside powers insert their citizens into the country, basically hypocritical as always.

They don’t even care about the well being of the illegals in the first place. They’d rather that they have terrible pay and live in squalor all so they could get the services and votes from them. The more humanitarian approach is stricter border policy and not encouraging people to come over illegally because coming illegally just means endless deportations and a very unstable living situation.

The Democrats look north and want to run things the way the Liberals do here. Thank god you guys have a working constitution to keep things from getting too bad.
A constitution is only as good as the people. Having one is nice, but those that are determined to do so will find loopholes to make things worse for the citizens (such as infringements on the Second Amendment).

Some of the points that stuck out to me:

Eliminating surveillance tactics that are disproportionately used to target Black, Brown, and Muslim communities by prohibiting predictive policing, facial recognition technologies, drones, and similar tools;

Developing a time-bound plan to close all federal prisons and immigration detention centers;

Repealing federal laws that criminalize human movement and border entry;

Make grants to local jurisdictions so that they can make and implement tailored plans to decarcerate their jails and/or defund their police forces;

Removing police, armed security, metal detectors, and other surveillance equipment from schools and government offices that provide social services;

Abolishing State gang databases;

Until ICE and CBP are fully dismantled, ending State and local police entanglement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and all federal immigration enforcement agencies;

Repealing all existing State juvenile offenses;

Providing full and free access for all people, including those who are undocumented, currently incarcerated, and formerly incarcerated, to a lifetime education;A federal commission that proposes changes to tax policy, which will dramatically increase racial and economic equity

Establishing commissions that design reparations for mass criminalization—including the War on Drugs, the criminalization of prostitution, and police violence; border violence; and the systemic violation of the U.S. Government’s treaty obligations to Tribal nations.

Allowing local and State resident voting for undocumented people.

How does abolishing prisons mesh with their constant cries that [person] should be thrown in prison or that [group of people] belongs in prison? Oh, it doesn't, ok.

It’s almost like they want to go with the FBIs old boss Hoover’s “there IS no Mafia!” stance and pretend gangs don’t exist, or at least prevent a national response to nationwide crime networks.

How much do you want to bet Tlaib and the squad get a lot of donations from certain shady characters?

Prisons will be repurposed to house meany heads who complain about all those "innocent" felons being turned loose and other such high crimes against The State
