I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Napoleon was an artillery officer working with some cutting edge weaponry, right? Imagine if the US got a military dictator who came up through the space force who knew how to rain down hell from orbit on any enemy of Liberty, Equality, and Brotherhood.

.....I for one welcome Gul Dukat as our future president and commander in chief of the armed forces and will take this moment to remind him that I could be useful in rounding up other kiwi farmers, floridians and californians to toil in his bajoran slave labor camps in order to finish the wall along the mexican border

I was more fond of his "Make Bajor Great Again" campaign.

Is it hope on the horizon? Ilhan Omar on the verge of losing? Let's hope this wish come true.

If any of the Squad members have painted themselves into a corner, it's her. She supports divesting in Israel, which pisses off the Jewish voters. She referred to 9/11 as "some people did something," which pisses off anyone who's old enough to have lived through 9/11. She left her Somali husband for a white man, which makes her a whore in the eyes of the Somali community. And she's a member of ANTIFA, which pisses off anyone who's sick and tired of the rioting in their city.

She left her Somali husband for a white man, which makes her a whore in the eyes of the Somali community.

If anything this will be the one to undo her. Agents working to topple the Great Satan get a lot of leeway but you know a lot of her target constituency is probably still pissed at this. Her handlers have to be thinking of tossing her under a bus and trying again, with a man this time, which their misogynist target audience would find a relief anyway.

But I'm not particularly hopeful. The power of incumbency is frustratingly strong.

Omar needed Keith Ellison and the state DFL chair to publicly whine about how much money her challenger is raising from outside of the district. The DFL chair says this opposition is based in xenophobia because if all else fails, say the challenger’s supporters are bigoted. The article says both she and the challenger have raised about 90% of their funds from out of state, so she’s being hypocritical as usual. They must be nervous though to be bringing out the big guns and starting a propaganda campaign in local news.

So is this like Ocasio-Chavez being slated for a loss just last month? I know that Beanie Man will make a point of it being unlikely later in the video, but his titles have been terribly clickbaity as of late.
he's like Rekita but without the thousands in law school debt, whatever he predicts is to make the viewers feel better and is usually wrong. like a children's show host.

Timmy knows he can string people along for years with his lies that he just assumes/hopes is accurate. I mean fucking hell, Timmy is only a trump voter now because he accepted a challenge from a conservative to go to sweden predicting it would go exactly as he hoped and turned out to be extremely wrong.

Here’s an interview that AOC did with Telemundo:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=WKh_3sVsSJYShe’s decent at Spanish, but like her English, she still manages to talk a lot while saying very little. She talks in flowery language and gives vague plans such as “worker’s rights” and “healthcare”, but she never expands on those topics. Let’s just say that being bilingual doesn’t make you any less ignorant.
most people in the US that are fluent in spanish are illiterate in it. unless you take it in school you dont learn it as a spic in the US. plus there isn't the whole culture of reading books or a huge backlog of great literature that isn't just spanish translations of english books. its the same with movies and television and music really, its a lot of cheap crap and if given the option you'd just entertain yourself with pop culture from the US/UK/Japan.

chances are she hasn't had to write spanish in at least a decade. the amount of NYC purto ricans under 50 that are literate is easily less than 1%

We're never getting a Bonaparte, and we'd be lucky to get a Stalin. If these retards get their way, we'd probably get a Mao, a Robespierre, or a Pol Pot.
people seem to forget Napoleon and Stalin were both immigrants/a different nationality than the people they ruled over. So our best case scenario is a mexican veteran despised with numerous accounts of racism in the country he rules over and you can probably tell who's side he would be on.

Theres a lot of good Spanish language literature out there, especially from 20th Century authors. Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Roberto Bolano, and Jorge Luis Borges are great, and ive only read them in English. Same goes for Cervantes though I imagine hes a lot less accessible due to the archaic language and writing style.

You have to read them in Spanish, even if you need a bilingual dictionary on hand, to experience the nuance and descriptive flow the Spanish language has in the pen of a good writer. If you read someone like Garcia Marquez in English and then in Spanish you realize it has a more profound impact in Spanish, which really does fiction wonderfully, in a way that English or even French rarely does.

Even early modern Spanish novels, which, like Shakespeare's English, are worth reading in the original, as you get a feel for the unique way the language uses words to describe a multitude of visuals, emotions and landscape. As an adult who had already traveled to Latin America many times since the age of eight and already spoke Spanish passably well reading La Celestina made me feel like a elementary school age child trying to read A Midsummer's Night Dream. It's worth it, because even reading fiction a little bit will vastly improve your Spanish.

AOC grew up in a upper class Westchester suburb and I doubt she can speak Spanish other than to order at Chipolte.

I could say the same for reading Dostoyevsky or Solzhenitsyn, it needs to be in the original language to get the full context and feeling of the text. The problem with that is noone outside of the most obsessive person is going to spend the time to learn a language just to truly understand its literary works on a native level.

Back on topic though, yeah, you're probably right. AOC was probably too busy partying and stealing tips in her formative years to actually learn Spanish at anything beyond a basic conversational level.

AOC Introduces Measure to Stop the Military from Recruiting on Twitch

The measure would prevent the military from using funds to 'maintain a presence on Twitch or any video game, esports, or live-streaming platform.'

U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) plans to file a measure that would prevent the military from using video games and esports as military recruitment tools.

A draft amendment filed on July 22 to the House Appropriations bill would prevent the military from using funds appropriated by the bill to “maintain a presence on Twitch.com or any video game, e-sports, or live-streaming platform.”

The House Appropriations bill is an early step in setting the Pentagon’s budget and there’s no guarantee Ocasio-Cortez’s amendment will survive the lengthy political process. First, the House Appropriations Committee on Rules has to meet to decide which pending amendments will go forward. Its next meeting is set for the week of July 27.

The House writes one version of the budget that has to go through multiple committees before being voted on by the entire House. And that’s before the Senate gets involved. The Twitch amendment could falter at any step along the way, but the fact that Ocasio-Cortez introduced the amendment at all speaks to the mounting public pressure against the military using video games and Twitch as a recruitment tool.
“It’s incredibly irresponsible for the Army and the Navy to be recruiting impressionable young people and children via live streaming platforms," Ocasio-Cortez told Motherboard. "War is not a game, and the Marine Corps’ decision not to engage in this recruiting tool should be a clear signal to the other branches of the military to cease this practice entirely.”

The U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force all run esports teams and connect with potential recruits via Twitch. The Army and Navy both banned viewers from their channels for discussing American war crimes. The ACLU said the move may have violated the first amendment, and the Knight First Amendment Institute has sent letters to the Army and Navy telling them to stop censoring Twitch viewers.

Unfortunately, Gruesome Newsom has put a stop to all executions for now.

I'll give the scurrilous bitch this, at least she's going back to the old-school Democrat stance of hating the military instead of pretending, like they've done since September 12th 2001.
