I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Manne says that when women compete for positions typically held by men, they tend to be portrayed as "morally suspect." That's why, according to Manne, "dislike and hostility are relatively predictable reactions to female politicians aspiring to highest office."

That happens to everybody, sweaty.

Politics is a game of sharp elbows, played by psychopaths pretending to be saints, in front of an audience of morons pretending to be sophisticates.

Second, our political system was designed specifically to foster representation of different political views in Congress, which is why it remains unusual to see a member of Congress denigrate himself and the institution by verbally attacking another member in this way.

We lost a founding father and a couple congressmen to dueling lol

Yoho suggested that what he was really complaining about was that a woman was daring to wield political power at all.

Which is why all the other woman presumably have all experienced this before? Or was AOC the first woman wielding political power ever? No, just her? My guess is it has more to do with this:

In December 2019, Yoho announced that he would not run for re-election to Congress in 2020, thus honoring an earlier term limits pledge.

My father, thankfully, is not alive to see how Mr. Yoho treated his daughter.

"Good thing my dad is dead" - the hell.

Why are they so worried about people being mean to this little Mexican when the policies that she supports are killing New Yorkers?

only thing that’s progressive around these parts are the black people killing other minorities to survive in a city where actual felons are getting released en masse

Second, our political system was designed specifically to foster representation of different political views in Congress, which is why it remains unusual to see a member of Congress denigrate himself and the institution by verbally attacking another member in this way. Ocasio-Cortez said it had never happened to her before and tweeted, "Believe it or not, I usually get along fine w/ my GOP colleagues. We know how to check our legislative sparring at the committee door."

Of course you do, since you're a GOP double operative.

That's... why you're so bafflingly unwise, right?

I mean I couldn't imagine you trying to justify, without any allowance for the most proximate possible explanations (i.e. stark anti-cop sentiment, loss of police funding, prison emptying, poor management of prison furloughs, poor incarceration standards during this epidemic), an explosion in gun violence, realizing that you're on a rhetorical road to nowhere, and then quickly pivoting to talking about petty crime unless you were pretending really hard to make a case for the glass of water with the D on it.

I don't agree with Rep. Yoho's alleged use of words, but AOC is undeniably vapid and not even valuable as an empty/ineffective voting suit for the House.

While Yoho said he was "passionate about those affected by poverty," many women -- and quite a few men -- know this confrontation wasn't really about a policy difference at all.

Oh, they know that? Please present some actual evidence on how you know that.

Since apparently words like bitch and cunt are politically charged now, I guess we need to come up with acceptable, inclusive insults like asshole, dumbass, shit-for-brains, and turd burglar.

'cuz they crave that AOC poontang and they won't suffer the consequences of simping to her and her retarded policies anyway.
She's a 5/10 at BEST, with the mentality of a teenager. She's the chick you bully in high school to drop her a couple of pegs so she doesn't wind up having the ego she has now.

Simps man... not even once.

So, people are stealing bread to pay rent when in actuality, they're stealing TV to buy drugs and car rims. Great job AOC.
Some of the expressions she makes in the original video are pretty funny. Occasionally she says something so ridiculous that she drops the fishbowl stare and you can briefly see the gears turning in her little peanut head. She doesn't believe a word of it but she's getting paid so Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reads the script and sells her soul to the devil.

LOL good luck passing that, or enforcing it. The military literally has its own game franchise designed specifically for recruitment

Who wants to bet shes never heard of america's army. Who also wants to bet that she isn't aware its been used as a basis to develop other programs that are used as part of training programs for the military. Lets see her say anything negative about any of this:

Surprise surprise, shes only looking at the surface level, and in a stupid manner at that. She isn't taking into account how such programs, software and tools can be used to benefit the nation as a whole

But nobody should be surprised because cortez is stupider than a bag of decomposing tacos in a barrio dumpster

Twitch has already started putting pressure on the US Army Twitch channel. They, like other organizations ask you to provide personal details to enter prize draws. But Twitch doesn't like that the Army is doing it, so some people went to harass them and were able to get their giveways shut down. Good work Silicon Valley media!

Twitch is bullshit as in you can't permanently delete your account. Even Amazon lefts you delete their account.

I thought neoliberals and wokies loved the military these days so this is surprising.

They love who the media tells them to love. Have you ever seen these types go against the MSM narrative significantly?

Then twitch is run by idiots because messing with the federal government, let alone the military isn't a battle they are going to win in the end. No pun intended

You can if you contact them directly and make an issue of it. Fun fact, facebook initially had a similar policy of not allowing users to delete accounts. Then someone realized that policy is illegal, sued the shit out of facebook and the government pointed out that consumer protection laws clearly prohibit not allowing a customer or user to sever their business relationship with any business. Since facebook, like twitch is a service provider they have to allow it

That is, unless they're run by idiots who want to get sued like facebook did and have it blow up in their faces and make them look bad

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) is refusing to endorse former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign for the White House, the far-left freshman congresswoman said in an interview published Monday.

“I don’t want to get into a debate with my residents,” Tlaib told Newsweek. “Residents come up to me and say, ‘Rashida, I don’t know. I hear Joe Biden this, Joe Biden that.’ I say, ‘Listen, do we need another four years of Trump? No. Then what I need you to do is go out there and focus on that.’ If the ultimate goal is to get rid of Donald Trump, that doesn’t have to involve me actually endorsing Biden.”

Tlaib — who, along with fellow “Squad” members Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), supported Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) failed 2020 presidential campaign — said her “constituents don’t need to be bogged down” regarding whether Biden is the best candidate to defeat President Donald Trump.

“My constituents don’t need to be bogged down in, ‘Is [Biden] the best candidate?’ That’s not what you have to convince my residents,” she told the magazine. “They need to come out in droves and be inspired by something. And that is going to be a vote against Donald Trump.”

Although Tlaib has steered clear of aiding the Biden campaign, Ocasio-Cortez serves on its climate change panel, where she has pushed the presumptive Democrat nominee to adopt policies from her Green New Deal. Ocasio-Cortez has yet to formally endorse Biden but has said she would vote for the former vice president in November. In April 2019, Ocasio-Cortez said Biden running for president “does not particularly animate me.”

That’s just a funny way of saying Biden is not winning now, isn’t it?
