I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Oh, I recall the Palin thirst from the opposite crowd very well, believe me.
Imagine the outrage and salt if there was an AOC version of this

Also, fuck you wikipedia.

tell me how great the original Deus Ex
You really think anyone in DC is going to reference a game where a globalist shadow conspiracy is after world domination and has most recently distributed a plague of their own making so they can use fear and oppression to control the people and dangle the cure they create over the heads of the elite, and are currently plotting to take total control of all Internet data transfers to finish their plan? Wait, if anyone is stupid enough to do that, its AOC.

Don't be a bigot. Its not her fault a too-tight headscarf strips hair like a weave job. What are you, Islamophobic?

"Guys, I'm a LEAGUE OF LEGENDS player. That's relatable to the common man, right? Isn't that awesome?"

What next? Going to have some commie fuck tell me how great the original Deus Ex was or that Clay Fighter 64 was overrated? lol - Like, why would anyone give a shit? I know zoomers are retarded but I think the last thing I would want in a politician is anyone associated with the league of legends community in any way or able just to reference X vidya game. My vote ain't going to change just because some assshole in the political theater says "Yeah, I was pretty good at Golden Eye - I never picked Odd Job. I was too honorable for that. I also was pretty good with a Klobb."
She'd talked about how she loved Pokémon snap and she did that Among Us stream .

Y'know, when I was growing up, I was taught that respect is earned, not given, and that it's hard to gain but easy to lose. It really doesn't surprise me that Horseface believes she's entitled to respect because she's a once-elected representative.

Hey Dems? Free advice: if you're seriously thinking about gerrymandering this district out of existence, please do so. I enjoy the damage that Horseface does to your party, but I'd rather just see her sent packing to irrelevancy instead of having to listen to her for potentially decades.

Seeing the lineup for that Twitch stream for Among Us was bizarre. I get Hbomberguy and Hasan being there because those two are fart-huffing leftists anyways and Jacksepticeye just does shit depending on what will garner him the most brownie points at the time, but what the fuck was Cr1tikal doing there?

I know he’s left-leaning but I never expected him to be cool with kissing politicians assholes.

Cr1tikal strikes me as someone who's kind of a trend chaser and incredibly ignorant of politics or the world generally. His take on the BLM protests back in May was the typical bs you can expect of that borderline milennial/Zoomer demo.

I'm sure anyone who got a chance to bathe in that sweet; sweet free advertising by playing with AOC is going to do so and I can't really blame them.

Hbomberguy got a huge push just for having AOC pop into his charity DK64 stream last year - I'm sure some of the more business minded streamers took note and got on that boat this time. AOC isn't remarkably smart, but she is popular with a demographic that some of these streamers might be able to convert into regular viewers.

He essentially did it for clout. Guy was the only one there that wasn't simping for AOC/Illhan and didn't participate in the political talk.

Don't forget pokimane, iirc she was the first big streamer to jump on AOC's first tweet about it. "It would be my honor". Yeah, I'm sure her thotsense didn't tingle and clue her in on an opportunity to get more viewers and more money or anything self serving like that.

"Mom, Dad, these people that play video games for a living online while people watch say that your politics and belief systems are, like, totally bad and wrong!"
